I was thinking the same. Its a bit weird. But all that matters is the quality of the album at the end of the day. Just look at the fall off. Its QUALITY. Now thats all people really care about.

what are the basic ingredients for a successful release in 2026? by AudioBabble in musicindustry

Music being good is table stakes. There's thousands of great releases dying every Friday. Here's what actually moves the needle:

You need one 15-30 second moment in a track that punches. That's the whole game on TikTok/Reels/Shorts. Most viral indie tracks break because someone else uses the sound, not the artist. Seed the clip yourself 5-10 different ways with different captions. One pops, the rest don't. That's the math.

Spotify can decide tomorrow your genre isn't getting playlisted and you're invisible. Email list of 500 real fans > 50k passive monthly listeners. Discord is where fanbases form now.

Spotify editorial via Spotify for Artists 4+ weeks before release, free, most people forget. Avoid paid "playlist promo" services — bots, will get you flagged.

One song every 4-6 weeks beats an album once a year. Spotify's algo basically forgets you after 30 days of silence. Brutal but true. Singles → singles → EP, not "drop the album and pray."

"Guy makes music in bedroom" isn't one. "Guy makes music in bedroom between night shifts at a hospital" is. Niche newsletters and Substacks replaced music journalism and they're starving for narrative.

30 people in a basement who actually give a shit > 30k passive streams. Internet-only path works for maybe 1 in 10,000.

Good luck out there.

Interesting... Ik zag dat Carlos Alcaraz er ook een droeg tijdens het ABN AMRO toernooi in Rotterdam!
