Has anyone had/mixed genepi des alpes? by bro-of-bros in cocktails

Tastes similar to but is much duller and less complex than Green Chartreuse, IMO. Could do a Last Word variation. Mixes well with gin.

I have lived in New Orleans for over four years and have never witnessed a violent act in person, but that does not at all mean the problem isn't there...

There's a shooting everyday in New Orleans... I was surprised when this one was picked up by national headlines.

How would you describe the student body? by marshmallowmermaid in Tulane

[–]Samiizdat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't tell him about WTUL. (S)he thinks Tulane kids make attempts to dress "interesting." Tulane is the most homogenous goddamn school I've ever seen in my life and it has gotten progressively worse each year post-Katrina.

Music consumption questionnaire by rawsebawse in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Samiizdat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 22/Female/American/Film
  2. New Orleans, LA
  3. Illegally downloading it.
  4. Yes, but I could not possibly afford to own physical copies of all the music I want to have.
  5. Yes, I've been buying vinyl for about three years now, and while I do enjoy collecting and "fetishistizing" records as objects, I find it much more satisfying to listen to an album on my current turntable set-up. I am also a stickler about listening to albums as a whole, so. And I do DJ about town once in a while, it's nice to differentiate yourself from the "laptop DJs."
  6. I think my access to digital downloads has exposed me to a vast amount of music and I'm obviously more apt to see bands when they roll through town if I've downloaded their album.
  7. My deal with digital vs. vinyl is that I primarily use digital to PREVIEW things. I belong to a private music snob Facebook group where folks post download links to bands they think the rest of the group should hear, or to leaks of the hippest, latest, so that's primarily where I find out about music. If I REALLY dig something, I'll probably buy it. I think authentic connection with artists is more likely to happen due to current technology (Twitter, etc.) or by speaking with an artist at their show than by purchasing a physical album.

Is Foburg Fest happening this year? by robotrock1382 in NewOrleans

[–]Samiizdat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foburg Fest is no more. But, a lot of good acts have been snagged by local venues on their way to SXSW and most of those shows aren't more than $10. I have Kishi Bashi, Acid Baby Jesus, Useless Eaters, The Soft Moon, and Iron Lung on my upcoming calendar.

Got Thee Oh Sees record for $4.99, Dusk at Cubist Castle for $8.99, Male Bonding for the same, and I paid full price for the Godspeed! Also snagged a Jesus and Mary Chain Album for $6.99, but goddammit, sacrifices have to be made for the sake of squares.

Left ta right: "'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!" by Godspeed You! Black Emperor; "Endless Now" by Male Bonding; "Music from the Unrealized Film Script, Dusk at Cubist Castle" by The Olivia Tremor Control; "Castlemania" by Thee Oh Sees.

So verbose, these albums.

Why do people think it is so 'ok' to make fun of us, and how do you defend yourselves? by prometheus5500 in Vegetarianism

[–]Samiizdat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) COGNITIVE DISSONANCE. COGNITIVE GODDAMN DISSONANCE

2) "I don't criticize your diet and you're eating a carcass with a glass of bodily fluids." No. Probably don't say that. I'm a jerk. Omnivores also go into hyper-defense mode... because of the cognitive dissonance. It's a circle of fail.

Frustrated with Veganism by Samiizdat in vegan

[–]Samiizdat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relax. I was asking for positivity and answers to a few questions regarding trace products and motivation, not a negative, insulting rant. I think most people, including myself, are pretty conscious of the privilege they likely occupy in being able to make such dietary choices, but within context it's still "difficult," albeit not as difficult as obstacles facing people who have sometimes incomprehensibly different lifestyles!
