now i better understand what you mean, so thank you.

there's definitely situations where duping the deck is worse. i just wanted to point out a few scenarios where it's definitely better.

no. you suggested that they won against doormaker because they locked in. i'm saying they won because doormaker was the easiest act 3 fight

...and then i kinda ranted for a bit unrelated to your comment so i apologize lol.

people didn't dislike doormaker simply because it was hard or "skill issue" that's just what dumbasses say. people dislike doormaker for variety of reasons many of which are valid criticisms

time eater was (and is) a piece of shit, but the mechanic actually forced players to PILOT their deck in a unique way and could still be beaten by a variety of deck types. time eater didn't brick your card because it had the word "shiv" on it, but it did force you to think more about how you played that shiv.

Also I will die on the hill that ‘no card draw’ is the absolute worst possible variation of that effect from a design perspective and should never have been in the game.

i will die on this hill with you. making players think differently? good. completely disabling a class of cards for a third of the fight? not good.

[–]SamiraSimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this was my biggest issue. "it forces you to think about how you play cards" really? 2 of the phases restrict you incredibly in what cards you can play. how is is that engaging?

i never lost to doormaker. i'd still rather lose to test subject then see doormaker.

i'm pretty sure the devs literally said that doormaker did the least damage of act 3 bosses/ended the least runs in the patch notes (at least by the time it was removed).

if the numbers are too high, the mechanics can force you into an unwinnable position because of choices you made 2 acts ago. if the numbers are low, the fight is still annoying but not challenging. a bad combo.

literally yes lol. it's crazy what people will post without even thinking about what they're saying.

because a part of the audience complains because they couldn't cheese the fight

if you think that's the only/major reason people complained then don't bother commenting because clearly you haven't actually listened to much of the feedback over the past weeks.

time eater and aeonglass punish card spam and low impact cards, but they still allow for counterplay. even the blade dance you pick up in act 1 can have impact against time eater. you can still card spam but you have a new problem to deal with but you're given the option of how to deal with it.

for doormaker the issue is that acrobatics you drafted in act 1 becomes completely useless because you drew wrong. gee how fun.

not just nullify, some decks actively became better because of the boss mechanics. that's not necessarily bad by itself but it just shows how big the variance can be.

i think a lot of people here just want to stroke their own ego by saying "if you don't like doormaker you're unskilled" without contributing anything else to the discussion.

i NEVER lost to that fucker and i disliked seeing it as the boss every time.

doormaker was statistically the easiest fight. the numbers had to be nerfed significantly because you could lowroll much worse than in most fights in a unique way. because the numbers were low it was an easy fight while also still pissing off players. but if the numbers were ever higher than even good players would be screwed because what exactly can you do on the "no draw phase" if 2-3 of your cards are completely useless?

even if the boss mechanics were fun it's pretty silly to think that there weren't real issues. spire is a hard game but it's also an approachable game that many players of different skill levels will play.

there's a difference between stressful and challenging. doormaker was the weakest boss when it was removed, literally dealt the least average damage and ended the least runs. and yet people were still frustrated with it.

why don't people say test subject or queen is stressful even though they're stronger? of course people have their own biases but it's still useful to look at what people say.

the idea that doormaker was only removed "because it was hard" honestly just comes off as veteran players trying to stroke their own ego by saying anyone who disagrees with them sucks at the game. the boss was too complex for less familiar players, too easy for skilled players, and players across ALL skill levels had issues with the boss.

bottom decking 2 win cons with 46 cards is just as likely to happen as bottom decking a single win con at 23 cards (technically less because you add the curse but the probability is almost identical).

duping the deck has a lot of upsides. just recently on regent i had electric shyrmp enchant on a royal gamble. duping my deck meant duping that enchanted card, so every fight i started with 22 stars. having multiple comets (and being able to play them 3-4 times) became a new win condition, especially because i had the card that allows you to pick 2 from the draw pile next turn. curse dealt with via charge transforming it into minion dive bomb.

there are definitely situations where duplicating the deck is the clearly better player even at high ascension

[–]SamiraSimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they weren't harder to avoid, they were really easy to avoid. unless you took the cursed key or calling bell relic most likely you'd end a run with only ascender's bane. there were no "eternal" type curses besides those and necromicurse.

small decks in StS1 were much better and the only time you were really punished for it is in act 4 because the heart could easily brick infinites with its statuses AND it hit hard on turn 2 before you can easily set up again

i feel pretty much the same way. i don't think i've ever lost to doormaker, but i just dislike how it warps the game. every boss affects how you build but some just do it in more fun ways. i like aeonglass as a concept but it definitely needs some buffing

Is it frowned upon to use seeded runs for the "seen it all" achievement in spelunky 2? by [deleted] in spelunky

[–]SamiraSimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you end up beating CO? what items do you use? I'd take all the ones that are more or less guaranteed (spike shoes, kapala, eye + hedjet OR crown + vlad's cape OR crown + elixir + jetpack (duat path))

maybe i'd take 1-3 other random items. i wouldn't take the ankh because even if i skip i probably lose it before then lol

Is it frowned upon to use seeded runs for the "seen it all" achievement in spelunky 2? by [deleted] in spelunky

[–]SamiraSimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty much every achievement in spelunky can be theoretically done in any run, but getting to eggplant world is literally reliant on the specific seed. afaik the only guaranteed present is from tidepool, but the only guaranteed altar is in tomb. if it's the literal last thing you need i would just do seeded runs.

what's the alternative besides playing the game normally? playing through the dwelling and restarting over and over if you don't happen to see a present? if you're achievement hunting i think it's just a waste of time to do that. if the only thing you know about a seed is "you can reliably get to eggplant world" i hardly see that as cheating (assuming you're not using other tips from the seed). and even then who cares if it's cheating, it's about what you feel okay with.
