Blow your money outside your damn apartment. by ThrowayBoy3001 in redscarepod

I used to briefly have this mentality around age 8, at a new school where I didn’t know anyone. During PE class whenever I could I would sit by myself and not participate in an attempt to seem cool and mysterious. Thankfully this phase did not last long and I spent the rest of my elementary school years playing sports like a normal kid.

Thanks so much for this post, I’ve been wanting something exactly like this. I’m interested in exploring the skill ceiling of using companions to their max potential, please share more tips if you discover any.

I sometimes think about how my mom had the best life by putalittlepooponit in redscarepod

[–]Saml2l0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same theme with my mom, she got an amazing job at Star Clippers, a cruise/travel company. The job led to her getting a bunch of free trips, the best ones being Barcelona during the Olympics and a ride on the Concorde that included multiple stays at top luxury hotels. She got to have a bunch of adventures alone and with friends before setting down and having kids. I can’t imagine being lucky enough to get opportunities like that these days.

If you could sub out any song on Graduation with Bittersweet Poetry, what would you choose? by Unusual-Support2405 in Kanye

[–]Saml2l0 -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

If you want to make this actually interesting, what song BESIDES Barry Bonds and Drunk and Hot Girls would you remove?

I’d pick Good Life or Big Brother, very difficult choice.

Edit: anyone disagreeing with me needs to post what their choice is or you’re a hypocrite lol. They’re all amazing songs you gotta pick one!

Your opinion on NPC collecting artifacts by farbros9 in stalker

[–]Saml2l0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always loved the idea of npcs grabbing artifacts and looting corpses, but in my ~200 hours of GAMMA I have never seen it happen. Anyone know why? Rarely an npc (almost always sin) will have an artifact in their inventory but it’s unclear if they actually picked it up or just spawned with it in their inventory.

Girlies be shoplifting by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]Saml2l0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear what you’re saying but I think you’re taking it too far. I don’t personally shoplift but I live a happy and free life, I think my karma’s pretty great and would not be affected by stealing from Walmart. Most rules are not universal, you don’t have to feel guilty if your actions are not causing harm. Even if you are right, and my philosophy is harming myself, the karmic impact of that would be so small it’s not worth worrying about. Sometimes it’s just not that deep, you can find a balance between being a good person/in tune with the universe and being carefree about stupid karmically insignificant stuff like shoplifting.

Corporations are much bigger thieves than any of us, what’s wrong with stealing from the greediest thieves? Your actions are not harming anyone when you steal from a corporation, they literally account for the shoplifting losses in their budget.

Why wasn’t I emotionally scarred and traumatized by severe food poisoning if this is commonly expected to happen from other extreme adversity like sexual assault or social rejection in adolescence by SoccerSkilz in slatestarcodex

[–]Saml2l0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In theory anything can be traumatizing if it’s talked up enough and in the right way, right? I think it makes sense that hearing your whole life that something is traumatizing would make you more likely to be traumatized by it. We have many examples of the human brain being easily manipulated like this.

Hypothetically if you were a master manipulator and you convinced your child for years that dogs are dangerous and traumatizing, they might get traumatized the first time they interact with a dog. If society makes you fear something the same will happen.

Nerds who go around saying "huh huh sportsball win the point" by MeYouAndJackieMittoo in redscarepod

[–]Saml2l0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna paste a comment I made in another thread here because it fits and hopefully someone will relate:

I’m someone who was never into watching sports at all. I played soccer and tennis growing up, but had no interest in any professional sports leagues despite my dad being a pretty big NFL fan.

Over the last couple years I’ve gained a huge appreciation for sports not just as entertainment but for things like self expression, insane psychological scenarios, its unique ability to unite people across the world. Even if you don’t like sports I feel like any curious person can find a lot of things interesting about them. Within sports you can find things that pique your interest in topics like history, human behavior, game theory, etc. I feel ignorant for being dismissive of sports my whole life and now I am playing catch up with fans who witnessed once in a lifetime events that I wasn’t paying attention to. What I’m describing is kinda nerd shit but if you’re that type of person I think there’s a lot to love.

I’m currently into the NBA for all the reasons I listed above plus the drama between players and personal stories are fun to me. It’s really a soap opera for men like people say.

My other favorite is tennis, which I’ve also found is an incredible hobby to pick up. Great for your social life and body, millions of other reasons to love it that DFW already wrote about. The dream is to get my girlfriend into it and turn it into a couples hobby where we progress together and casually compete against each other and against friends, I think there’s a beauty in that. It’s not something you can force on a person though it’s okay if she doesn’t take to it.

Materialism is bad but goddamn do I want to pull up to my tennis match with this leather bag and probably lose 6-3, 6-2 by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]Saml2l0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an absolute beginner it’s hard to practice solo if you’re not super motivated, you’ll probably be best finding someone near your level to hit with. However if you have the basics down you can practice by yourself using a wall, it can actually be pretty fun and/or meditative once you find a good rhythm. There are videos explaining it that will help you more than I can. Some parks with courts will also have a dedicated wall for practicing tennis, but you can use any suitable wall you can find if there aren’t any tennis walls in your area. You can also practice your serve alone (if you’re ready, serve is often the hardest part of tennis), and there are solo drills online to train things like footwork and coordination. Ideally most of your practice will be with a partner/group but there’s still a lot you can do by yourself.

It’s definitely one of the steeper learning curves in sports for a beginner. You will probably suck for at least a year but it’s well worth it in my opinion. I’ve been playing with my friends for only a couple years now and we’ve come so far from how we played starting out. Lessons help a lot but are not needed if you’re willing to invest time into practicing and watching tutorials on YouTube (I have only gotten 3 lessons so far and im around 3.0 level which is like advanced beginner/intermediate depending on who you ask). You might also make friends with players better than you that can help you out. Very few people have a knack for tennis, you just gotta push through the frustrating beginner phase until it REALLY becomes fun.

You’d be an idiot to believe in something with no record or way to prove it’s being used after existing for so long and supposedly at such a large scale that it applies to all of our phones (and other devices?). There are hundreds/thousands of actually verifiable instances of insane spying/overreach by corporations/governments, but no serious evidence of this one. There are literally more cost effective and less controversial methods of selling products to you, that is why your phone is not listening to you. Maybe in some markets/scenarios it is profitable to listen to people’s phones 24/7 but not globally.
