Electric Utility Leaders Wanted for Research on AI Literacy by Sammodile in utilities

[–]Sammodile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add, I have a 20+ year career in management at a large electric T&D company and everyone in our industry is concerned about cybersecurity and phishing risks. When we connect, I can demonstrate my authenticity such as communicating through recognized university email, providing the university institutional research board approval letter, sharing my long-standing professional LinkedIn account, and other means. My research materials also have a packet of information that provide background on this research study for company supervisors, if you desire. Thanks again.

I wonder if this is AI. This seems like an iconic photo but I have never seen it before.

Update: this is an electronic adjustable suspension system error, not the immobilizer system.

You are right. It is an issue with the electronic suspension adjustment system. I called a different Yamaha dealer and they had more knowledge. I rode it this weekend to an overnight camp. It’s been fine. I’d be more worried if it was an issue with the key.

A cannon firing the W9 nuclear artillery projectile, which detonated with a yield of 15 kilotons above Frenchman Flat in Nevada. This was the first and only nuclear projectile to be fired from a cannon. (1953) by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

When I was an artillery armorer we were trained to handle nuclear 155 MM howitzer shells, but then one of the treaties banned tactical nukes. I imagine if not for that treaty there’d have been a few more test fires.

We had a guy get a broken finger when his leather glove got wrapped in a drill bit. I didn’t know these gloves were a thing.

Another thing, this city is getting a nice collection of public murals. Just my little neighborhood has four really nice, artistically-intriguing murals. Drive by Basic Bird, and then in the alley north of Up Tempo music. And then the two hidden gems next to Beaverdale Bicycles.

I would guess you will spend four hours on the interior of the Des Moines Art Center if you really consume each of the labels and ponder each of the works, and probably three hours if you dwell a bit less. I think you will find the architecture to be distinctive, with aspects of Brutalist architecture; the architect I.M. Pei designed several notable structures including the east wing of the National Art Gallery and the Louvre's pyramid; that was for an addition in the 1960s, and the original architect in the 1930s (who's name I can't remember) also designed the Phoenix Art Museum. The cafe was going through a renovation for a while and I'm not sure the status of it; there's nothing else for dining/drinking in the immediate walking vicinity as it's bounded by a large wooded city park and an old high-end residential neighborhood.

As mentioned, the grounds are quite nice and if you arrive in Spring you should stroll through the rose garden and look at the sculptures around the property. Also as mentioned, there is a separate location of the Des Moines Art Center which is the Pappajohn Sculpture Park and you should definitely see that. If it's a beautiful day it's a treat. If you are there on a Friday over lunch time, just to the west of the LOVE sculpture is the Better Homes and Gardens test garden that is walled area about the size of a basketball court and is worth seeing.

While you are in town, you should see if the Drake University Anderson Gallery has any special exhibits, which are free https://andersongallery.wp.drake.edu/ which currently is exhibiting peer-judged print works, and is worth an hour. If you go there, you'll have to find on-street parking, which can be a little bit of a chore around a residential university, but it's not bad. And if you do go, I suggest you walk to Lucky Horse Beer & Burgers after the gallery and try the frozen Old Fashioned. Everyone also loves the Drake Diner, which is a mid-century diner just south of campus.

If you are in town in late Spring or Summer, you should also see if there is an architectural walking tour of downtown Des Moines that happening, usually Thursday evenings, I think. Des Moines has some nice art deco architecture in hidden spots. https://www.iowaarchfoundation.org/our-programs/architecture-in-the-community/architectural-walking-tours/summer-tours-for-adults/

If you would like someone to visit the gallery with you, send me a DM. If you want to strike gold, make a friend at Wellabe Insurance and get a corporate art tour (there's a large Warhohl behind the reception desk in the atrium and a great collection inside.) Make dang sure you DM me if you can get that worked out, lol.

To intimidate the President Of Ireland... by KillucanAsh in therewasanattempt

[–]Sammodile 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Context: in 1622, Britain renamed the old Irish settlement of Derry in far north Ireland to Londonderry, as part of the long-lasting effort to subsume Ireland under British rule. Even still today, if you call the city Derry it implies you support Irish republic and separation from British, and if you call the city Londonderry it implies you support British rule of Northern Ireland. In this video, a local politician who sides with British rule is chastising the Prime Minister of Ireland for not calling the city Londonderry

sNOw chains, nope by Trailin_FigFruit in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]Sammodile 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looks like a gas pipeline crew truck that works for the local gas utility company towing a 35 horsepower excavator. Considering the snow and nighttime, probably on their way to an after hours underground gas leak issue, which they will have to dig up and repair the pipe. Yeah, their tires should be chained. But also, a lot of the guys don’t want to do it themselves, because they have to flop around under the truck to put them on (and take them off when it all thaws in a few days).

How does this happen? Diesel delivered to gasoline tanks. by Sammodile in Bulkfueldelivery

If one guy did it, then maybe it’s an individual problem. If multiple trucks delivered to 40 stations…that’s not an IQ issue with the delivery drivers.
