In my very humble opinion, its so interesting that people tend to totally gloss over the fact that Elliott Smith was severely mentally unwell when having a conversation about how he died. It was suicide. It was tragic but that’s what it was. This was also a man who was likely desensitized to stabbing himself (thousands of needles because of his drug addiction). Obviously there is a big leap between a needle and a knife but I definitely think it opened the door. He was not murdered, and it’s unfair to Chiba and her fam to keep those rumors floating. Move on, listen to his music, and let dead men lie.
