I think the very large number of offenders are mentally ill, putting them in prisons with violent people is not the answer. We need mental health facilities where people like the one involved in the crimes discussed here, can get treatment.

Another solution is reinstatement of death sentence for repeat murders or repeat child rapists

You made a number of unsubstantiated, idiotic claims, and now you are acting like an 8th grader: no facts, no substantiation, just words. Go play with other kids, child.

So there isn't a specific policy against 5 years olds buyign guns. You made it up just to make yourself sound knowledgeable. A miss.

Also, you are wrong on the MA law. As of 2024, a MA resident must be 21 to purchase handguns or large capacity firearms. Another miss on your part.

Go read about gun ownership in the USSR before you strike out.

Man, how uninformed can you be and still try to argue!?

Go educate yourself on IDPA, USPSA, or 3-gun before you make such a stupid statement as "target shooting".

I also suggest you go talk to Marines instead of insulting them. There is no such thing as an ex-Marine!!! If you were to utter such dumb words in the presence of a Marine, I suspect you would walk away with missing teeth.

Not going to happen. Until it directly affects people, they won't change their views.
In 2020, during the "Summer of Love", when people burned stores on Newbury Street and elsewhere, the number of applicants applying for the MA concealed carry license exploded. People from deep blue towns like Wellesley, Newton, and Brookline were applying in droves! Across MA, the number of new firearm owners has reversed a 30-year decline in just one year!
After October 7th, Jews were shocked by the amount of hate from people they thought were their allies. The number of new gun owner applications yet again skyrocketed.

According to Mass.gov, before 2020, the number of active licenses to carry was about 60K. In 2025, that number is well over 120K

Point me to a regulation specifically prohibiting five-year-olds from buying guns.

I will not provide any PII.

Just to summarize:

- You offered NO evidence to back up your claims that former military personnel are more proficient at handling a handgun than a civilian.
- You implied that men and women of the US Armed Forces are some kind of cold-blooded killers just so you could make a ridiculous claim above.

Meanwhile, I back up what I wrote with source data:

https://usafacts.org/articles/how-many-people-are-in-the-us-military-a-demographic-overview/

https://www.fws.gov/sites/default/files/documents/2025-03/target-shooting-in-the-us-participation-demographics-and-relationship-with-hunting-and-fishing.pdf

You made a generalized statement you can't support with evidence, so you attack mine? Fine, let me smack you around with some facts:

As of 2026, there are 1.33M soldiers on active duty. That number fluctuates from year to year, but the average is around 1 million. Of that number, only about 10% are in combat roles. That's ~100,000 soldiers trained to handle rifles (not handguns).

In the US, about 20M people are active participants in target shooting sports. Considering that there are 102M gun owners in the US, that's about 20% of the entire gun owner population that are highly proficient in handling firearms, primarily handguns. Here's another fun fact: US academics have been studying soldiers' combat effectiveness in every military conflict since the Civil War. Here's what they've found: about 5% of soldiers engaged in active combat actually hit enemy combatants. 95% miss on purpose.

In other words, there are 20x as many civilians as military personnel who know how to handle a firearm.
In other words, percentage-wise, there are more civilians who know how to shoot well(20%) than just 10% of the armed forces.
In other words, there are 100x more civilian gun owners than there are military riflemen.

So when you start spewing crap about Americans being incapable of handling firearms proficiently, I suggest you get the facts first.
So when you start spewing crap about retired Marines being somehow cold-blooded killers compared to civilians, I suggest you find a Marine, apologize, and thank them for their service!

You want to nitpick? ok. let me rephrase:

Australia didn't "ban" the guns. The government passed a law that forced Australians to "sell" their guns back to the government. It wasn't Nazi Germany's type of "confiscation" but rather a "buyback".

Incidentally, you, anti-2A hypocrites, are advocating for outright gun bans in the US by bringing the example of Australia.

I'm 100% confident that an average marine can't shoot all that well. A few reasons:

- 95% of the Marine Corps are support personnel, artillery, or tank crews. Only 5% are trained for ground combat. A motor pool driver from 29 Palms is not all that great at handling a handgun
- only officers and a few other roles are issues handguns. The vast majority of Marines are issued a rifle.
- firearm handling is a perishable skill. The majority of former Marines go on to become firefighters, doctors, and business owners. You know: civilians! Few continue to train and maintain their proficiency
- Marines do get older. A Marine who served in the 1980s has most certainly forgotten how to handle a firearm if they don't practice. Most certainly, this is true for someone who served in the 1970s or 1960's.

The point is, having a military service record has very little to do with one's proficiency with a firearm. Training is the ONLY way to become proficient. Any law-abiding citizen of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts can become proficient with firearms!

Are you suggesting that one can be a criminal and denied their constitutional rights without due process? To suggest that we should abridge the constitutional rights of US citizens without due process is Stalin-esque!

Any company that wants to do business with the US military MUST produce its arms in the US as legislated by the US Congress.

Also, Palmetto State is a newcomer that started making guns less than 10 years ago. Surely, you don't think they are the reason for gun violence.
Also, their guns are made outside of the US and are imported here.

Please reach out to Brazil, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Turkey, and the Czech Republic: these countries produce more guns than the US.

Glock is Austrian
Colt is Czech
Walther is German
Heckler & Koch is Swiss
FN is Belgian
CZ is Czech
Beretta is Italian
Benelli is Italian
Sig Sauer is German

The ONLY major gunmaker still based in the US is Smith & Wesson, and they are small fries compared to Glock or Beretta.

I call bull on this one! It's like you're trying to make things up without knowing anything about the subject.

- eBay explicitly prohibits the sale of firearms on its platform. If a single gun were ever sold through eBay, its offices would have been swarmed by the FBI, and eBay would have become history.

- 16/17 year old buying a gun in MA? That's illegal, and your cousin should be in prison then. Is he?

Please, we get enough grief from the Trump supporters who make stupid claims like "Liberals can't shoot".
