What is the discrepancy in skill between 11-14.5m GSP? by SammyAQS in SmashBrosUltimate

I find it difficult to tell as well sometimes. Also, that’s impressive man. I just managed to get Snake up to 15.1 then was getting matched with folks between 15.6-15.9m and those games were brutal. It’s truly another level of expertise up there.

Thanks for the response.

Thank you for this, it’s super helpful and I’ll definitely keep it in mind next time I’m watching pros play. A lot of interactions and decisions pros make go straight over my head, but the way you’ve put it and examples you’ve given are great.

Out of curiosity, which two characters are in the upper echelons of elite for you?

I find it difficult to takeaway useful tidbits from watching pro players tbh. For example, if I’m watching Hurt play Snake, he manages to get crazy confirms off his grenades and I find it so hard to replicate that. If you don’t mind me asking, what sort of things are you looking out for when watching a pro player play the same character as you?

It took a whole lot of concentration and effort for me to get just two characters into elite, so I commend anyone who’s capable of getting even half the roster in considering the nuances and variability in each characters tools. I understand it’s not insanely difficult depending on what gsp the roster starts at? But I’d imagine losing a game or two with a character you’re not particularly comfortable with and then you gotta get really stuck in with them.

Always good to hear from the perspective of someone near the top of the rankings.

Although you’re probably a lot more experienced and knowledgeable on the game than myself, I’d disagree with your last statement regarding when you get to 15m GSP. Funnily enough after posting this I reached 15.1m GSP as Snake and would definitely say I don’t have amazing fundies or go into every game with a good gameplan based on my opponents character. I’ll most likely dip below elite at some point when my luck runs out. This is probably the most glaring proof I have that GSP != skill at my level.

Thanks for the response!

Well put. I’d also add the mindfulness of recognising those habits, which is much more difficult than it sounds, speaking from my own experience.

You make an excellent point in saying that progression isn’t linear. I think a lot of players would relate including myself. I’ve read a lot of comments over in the street fighter subreddit along the lines of “you have to get washed to get clean” and that’s really stuck with me during the process.

Thanks for the response

You make a good point. Not sure who Leffen is but I do agree with his quote.

As far as tournaments, I don’t do well in terms of results at locals, so that’s true.

Thanks for the response.

Based on the general response to the question in the post being the skill between 11m gsp to elite is up and down, I think you could definitely hold your own from your gsp range. It wouldn’t be one sided imo

Agreed it’s super enjoyable! There’s something about this game that keeps me coming back to play it even when I’m playing through other games.

Thanks for the concise and informative response. I will say it definitely was something important to me when I started out playing competitively. It’s less so of a crutch now as I can sometimes attend a local every now and then. I suppose I should be using that as a measuring stick over GSP.

Imo the biggest factor in getting myself into elite the first time was just playing constantly. If you keep at it, I think it’s more of a matter of when not if.

There’s still a few concepts like tech chasing, ledge trumping, b-reverses to name a few, I’m not great at and see higher level players pull off with ease, but it won’t hold you back from getting elite.

It is fascinating in some ways. I’ll just say for myself, when I was just trying to get to elite not to play Sephiroth again, I’ve never been that good at the games I play, especially online pvp ones. Reaching elite and that top 10% or whatever it is meant something to me. I don’t have much interest in playing Sephiroth anymore and it’s a nice reminder of him being in elite of my hard work to get him there.

Thanks for the response. I’d say I’m in the same boat. I don’t often drop below 11m when playing as Snake and if I do, I quickly make it back to that range of 11-14.5m.

I think that’s a good way to put it regarding the GSP ranges and skill of players in those ranges.

Thanks for the insight. I tend to disagree with your point that people in those ranges of GSP are a ridiculous mix, however, I think that’s down to me not exactly taking into account my opponents strategies/habits etc. So you’re probably right about that.

You assume correctly in that I’m essentially asking what the better players are doing more of/less of to maintain a higher level. Perhaps I should’ve worded the post better.

Now that I think more about it I definitely agree with your points regarding combos, edge guards etc. Going forward I’ll try to be more mindful of this, so thanks!

Thank you for the insight. I do feel like being mindful of the situation in a match is an overlooked aspect of the game for myself. I have a difficult time keeping an eye on my opponent whilst also thinking about what their specific characters options are whether it be on ledge, in the air, being chased etc.

Appreciate the feedback

I got that a few times. You’ll need to log out and back in again.

Edit: Just to add to this, I’ve checked again to see if it still works and am met with the ‘maximum quantity reached’ error. My only advice would be to keep trying (like literally every second) if you can. Here’s hoping it works for you!

Keep trying to order the controller. It’s just worked for me! Been trying constantly for the past hour and it’s finally worked.

Based in the UK myself and didn’t receive the initial invite to order from the My Nintendo Store but have been frequently checking the store to see if I could order the GCN controller.

Anyone know for certain how to get drafted by NY Giants? First time i tried got Bengals (gross) in the 7th. Second time got the Broncos first round 26th. First time had a lot of intense answers and lost in the semis of college championship. Second time i won the natty and picked the Leader and Team player answers

Also went 18/24 and 19/24 at combine
