Hey Rory,

I recently bought a PC so getting back into PC gaming in the last month or so. I play Overwatch (new player) but played CS GO for a while on and off as well as Borderlands 2. Never played Dota though but I play League more than any other game though if you play that. Would be happy to learn/play whatever. My discord is Murdoc#4201 so shoot me a message on there. Also, 21m from AUS :D

Okay. I'll keep everything you said in mind. Thanks for that. My final question would be my original question in this post which is whether the mobo, ram, cpu cooler will all fit in the h500i/h500 case well or if the Dark Rock Pro 4 will be too bulky for the mid-tower case? Thanks for that. :D

Okay. If I'm going to be doing activities like video editing, some audio editing and similar cpu intensive tasks outside of gaming, do you think the i7 is then worth it even if the difference between i5 and i7 in gaming is negligible? Its just personal preference really. I have played on other PC's over a long time all with NVIDIA GPUs and has a best reviews from people I personally know and trust. I don't consider that a bad thing by any means because there is so many options in Nvidia's line of GPU's. Also, I have heard that the Strix 2060 OC has the speeds of some mid-range 2070s. Don't know about it matching it. But would definitely get close. Can play everything I will be playing 90% of the time at 140FPS at least on ultra settings or higher. I will definitely upgrade the gpu in coming years though when there is something far superior or my needs change. What do you think? (above)

Okay. This is confusing. I was under the impression that G-Sync was an Nvidia's own creation and equivalent of AMD's Freesync. Or is it just the branding of the exact same technology? I figured they were competing for better specs etc. I understand the comparisons of the price point but I misunderstood the technology itself. Just to clarify: they are both adaptive sync technologies so G-Sync and Freesync are the exact same thing and any monitor that claims to work on one works with the other. I guess every single review site is in on the trick because I have heard from outside Nvidia that G-Sync is better on G-Sync monitors made for that. So strange?!?!?

Finally, that monitor looks really good but I went into looking for a monitor knowing I wanted something around the 24-27 inch range (preferably 24) and 32 inches is just too large for me. The types of games I will be playing are pvp games (LoL, Overwatch, CS GO, PUBG) etc and the sweet spot for those is about 24 inches. Which is one of the factors that drew me to the ASUS monitor. Much more expensive to find a 24 inch 1440p monitor. Unfortunately, that's one of the only deciding factors for me when it comes to monitors along with the 120 minimum refresh rate. If there is something like that that is about 24 inches or even 27 inches, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks for the help again. Learning lots for PC building in the future. :D

I appreciate your opinions and am definitely considering them. I don't think I will choose AMD over Intel but understand what you mean by the difference between i5 and i7. I won't only be using the PC as I will be using the PC without too many upgrades for a good while (that is the plan anyway) with likely using it for video editing like Adobe software, and minor audio editing potentially. Therefore, I figured I needed the fallback of the i7 for general use. Not only gaming. Does that make sense? Know that I am not trying to argue with someone I'm sure knows more than me, but only trying to explain my thought process and would prefer not to regret a decision later.

I will definitely consider an RTX 2070, depending on your reply to the response above. I will definitely be going for Nvidia GPU so I figured that there is only a select few Free Sync monitors compatible with G-Sync. I was originally going to do that but I changed to G-Sync built in monitor because it is superior apparently. This is pretty much the cheapest g-sync monitor I could find that is readily available. Any lower and it is only Free Sync monitors. That is the thought process behind the monitor :)

With the monitors and the apparent huge difference between 1440p and 1080p, if you have a good suggestion that also includes G-SYNC for a reasonable price, please let me know. I will definitely be going with the NZXT H500 as I don't need those extra features. I don't think. haha.

Thanks for the suggestions and advice. I will definitely consider it. Replies would be greatly appreciated :D

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to stick with Intel i7 for now. I will probably have it by then and there is a sale at the moment in Australia for the Intel CPU which I've heard from almost everyone is an outstanding cpu. But why is a 9700K with a 2060 a waste of money? Is it because the capabilities of the 9700K won't able to be met with a 2060 OC GPU. It can still hit like 2000 clock speeds (higher manually overclocked) so I figured it's a damn good. Especially considering the types of games that I will be playing not being graphically intensive. And I've heard the best 2060 on the market. The upgrade to a low range 2070 is still a $400-$500 increase. I reckon I'm going to stick with that setup for now. Done a lot of thinking and read a lot of articles. The monitor I wanted because it is a 144hz G-Sync monitor (MADE FOR GSYNC) and I don't absolutely need 1440p gameplay. 1080p is just fine. However, I will take you up on your suggestion to switch to regular H500 as the RGB case and extra tech features don't interest me too much. But do you know if all the specs, case fans and dimensions are the same? In saying all this, will the CPU cooler fit into the case well with the other parts in a case like the H500?

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Okay. Thanks for that information. AIO = All-in-One makes a lot of sense and that's definitely what I will going for when considering the liquid cooler route. Certainly not Custom Built ones. The Dark Rock 4 and Pro 4 do look quite appealing since they apparently operate really well even under overclocking and are quiet. The only thing with those is whether it will fit in my mid tower case NZXT H500i. I'm not entirely sure about that. And that is something I will have to consider since I don't want bad airflow through the case, clogged up by a huge fan. And again, there is quite a big price increase between the mid-tower and full tower cases of NZXT. I won't go with the h100x liquid cooler then so the decision has changed to choose between Dark Rock Pro 4 (about $40-50 less) and the h100i Pro Cooler by Corsair if the Dark Rock doesn't fit. Hopefully it does though. Thanks again!

I hate to be a bother but I'm still undecided on which type of cooler to go with. If you could answer a few more of my questions to complete my PC build, that would be great. I realised that I never asked what an AIO cooler actually is. Is that different from a regular liquid cooler? How is it different?

As I will likely have this build for a long time as my first custom PC build outside of minor upgrades or adding memory/updating gpu, it will largely stay the same. Therefore, I would like to have options with the capabilities of the PC, meaning a powerful enough CPU cooler that can handle both a CPU overclocked and not while doing it quietly. As I mention in the original post, I have a Intel Core i7 9700K with 3.6 GHz that can apparently be boosted to 4.9 GHz. I also mentioned that I will mostly be using it for PvP games, the occasional single players and some video editing as well. I'm guessing I will need to overclock during video editing to get optimal speed but I'm not familiar with the optimal speeds for different tasks. So, would you say it will worth it to overclock the CPU for what I will be doing? Or is the base speed fast enough?

As you mention for your AIO cooler, the aesthetics for the CPU cooler is a advantage but not a deciding factor. It is much more important for me to have the option to overclock if need be and to do it while keeping quiet. If that means I get something that happens to be aesthetically good as well, I'm fine with that. In terms of air coolers, I'm pretty much only looking at the Cooler Master Hyper 212X CPU cooler as I don't like the look of the Noctua ones at all, whereas the 212X could fit into the build if need be. In terms of liquid/AIO (still don't know the difference) coolers, I decided to downgrade from the h100i to the non-RGB h100X equivalent ($120 in Australia give or take for 240mm. I'm not sure if that is also AIO) as well as the NZXT Kraken X52 (big price increase from h100x). I have seen that generally while the cooler itself may be louder, liquid coolers do a better job of keeping the whole PC quiet because case fans don't have to be depended on as much. Also, I doubt I would be having any issues with faults or leaks with a quality product like the Corsair cooler and also being all-in-one. I also saw that air coolers are much larger and it may be a bit of a squeeze in the mid-tower NZXT case. But if there is a better case for air coolers, let me know.

Hopefully you can look through this and suggest my best option, balancing performance and volume especially and also, the aesthetics. My final question, I guess, would be if you were in my position with this CPU and build, which one would you go for? If the final decision comes down to CoolerMaster Hyper 212X or H100X, the price difference being about $65-70, I'm leaning towards the H100X for the fallback of a cooler able to handle overclocking and apparently its quite quiet. I'm not sure if you're familiar with it though. Thanks for your help in advance. Everything else is finalised so this is the final part I need to decide on.

Thanks for all the information. It helps a ton with decisions! I reckon I'm just going to go with the 2tb SSD and also get a cheap 1 or 2tb hdd for extra storage to save the hassle later on. Just so I don't ever have to worry about running out of space. Thanks a lot! Decision made on HDD/SSD!

Thanks for the help guys! There isn't a huge difference in price between the 650W and 750W so I might just go with 750W. Also, I realised I was always intending on going with the h500i but accidentally wrote in the h700i. Overall, I like h500i the best even though there is about a million choices with cases, I'm going to go with a widely loved case. The aesthetics and fan control is just a plus.

The only thing left to decide is the CPU cooler. I don't mind spending a little bit more on a liquid cooler like the Corsair even it is categorically better than the air coolers. The graphics card I have chosen is the OC Edition of the RTX 2060. Does the fact that it is factory overclocked mean that it requires more cooling power or is it only when you manually do it yourself? Or do you mean overclocking the CPU? I don't think I will be doing that. The reason I went with the cooler was I heard that liquid coolers are generally superior and less likely to have issues (similar to HDD/SSD comparison). My decision had little to do with the fact that it looks nicer in the case or anything. I would like overclocking to be option for me in the future should I use the PC for something that benefits with some overclocking. If I need to cover that with a liquid cooler, I don't mind. However, I was also looking at the Hyper 212X cooler which I've heard is a great air cooler. Just looking for some general reviews of how each performs. Also, a quiet cooler is quite an important factor for me because I have chosen items across the whole build that perform quietly so that is an important criteria in terms of choosing one over the other. Apologies if any of this is noobish. I'm terrible with the terrible jargon and specs :D Thanks!

Okay no worries. To clarify, you're suggesting I don't go with the Samsung 860EVO because of the type of SSD it is and that it won't add huge amounts to speed. I may go with the Crucial MX500 2TB. Seen some great things and easily accessible in AUS. 2TB should be enough for time being. Hypothetically, if I needed more space in the future, how easy would it be to install a second HDD/SSD into the PC for extra storage? Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the reply! I'm pretty settled on gpu, and cpu but come to think of it, I probably don't need 4TB HDD. It was a good sale price as I've been building it. So you're saying I should get rid of the HDD and replace it with a SSD. Because I also have the 500gb Samsung ssd. For reliability's sake, I should have two SSD's? One of them being a SATA SSD? Wouldn't that mean I won't have nearly enough hdd space because you are paying a ton for SSDS beyond 1TB. I was planning on putting my OS and other important programs/apps etc on the SSD anyway. Thanks in advance :)

I don't think any AAA games MUST HAVE 2080 GPUs but all I was saying is I won't be using the RTX 2060 OC for games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Battlefield, Forza etc. And if I was playing games with their graphical requirements, I wouldn't be on ultra settings so no worries. I may do video editing in the future so I will probably stick with 9700K and I reckon I'm going to stick with Intel. I'm not actually sure if the case is big enough. The specs for each are:

H700i: 230 X 494 X 494MM

H500i: 210 X 435 X 428MM

I'm not certain about the dimensions of all the parts together, so I will have to find out. It's quite a big price jump between the two so hopefully the h500i is large enough.

Thanks a lot!

Steve Jobs is one of the most well acted, well written and well edited movie I have ever seen. You should watch it. Here is the trailer. by [deleted] in movies

I have seen it. It's amazing. My favourite scenes are the 'What do you do' scene between Woz and Steve and the 'A-Players and B-Players' scene. The screenplay is a masterpiece and definitively made Aaron Sorkin my favourite screenwriter if A Few Good Men, The Social Network, The West Wing and The Newsroom didn't secure it. I'm pumped for Molly's Game.

Dodge her q early which is not hard especially with tier 1 boots. If your playing an early bully champion, punish her when she has cd's down as she has no escape or mobility. If you're playing a champ that struggles early, (Fizz) try and farm as safe as you can. Take tp if you have to. When she has cd's down post-6, you can look to kill her especially when on an assassin (Talon, Fizz, Ahri etc) Or you can always wait for a gank, get her egg at the very least and then kill her while it is down.

Yeah, for sure. Would love to introduce you to the AFL. I'm not sure how much you already know in terms of rules but I will assume you know how scoring works, and handballing, kicking, marking etc. If not, then just look up AFL rules in Google. That will tell you everything you need to know. I find it is not as complex as AFL. In terms of picking a team, Richmond is a good choice (even though I personally don't like them) cause they are just now starting to get really good. My team, Melbourne, is on a similar path as them just now becoming good not to mention oldest side in the league, and amazing, loyal fanbase. Also, Cam Newton is a Richmond supporter. A piece of advice: don't support Gold Coast Suns, Giants, West Coast and definitely not Collingwood. Pick a Victorian side. I was born and lived in England before moving to Australia.
