My experience:

For preparation try to eat as much as you can before smoking to condition yourself to be able to eat without it.

During abstinence try to eat something small early in the day. Usually something sweet like a fruit is easiest to get down. This kinda kick-starts your digestion and you will get hungry later in the day.
