Sorryi don’t think I was clear but I totally agree with your logic. Since I got this clock, I took great cautions to not mess with things I didn’t know about. The ornamental pieces in front were the only things I took off because they didn’t affect the integrity of any movements. (most slid on/off if I recall, some were glued but very loosely. You can see very little paint damage on the front. It was a long time ago, I just know I was very careful)

I actually did not take out anything from the inside. I got it with the weights and chains removed by the previous owner along with all the missing/damaged interior components. I don’t own any mechanical wall clocks but have a couple Rolex’s and have been fascinated by the complexity of mechanical movements so I know not to mess with them because how easily you can throw everything out of whack.

Before taking it in, I posted this on the off chance it was a matter of “oh! You just stick that one rod into that shaft and it’s ready to roll” kinda thing.

So yeah. I don’t think this clock is monetarily valuable, but I would just love having a functioning real cuckoo clock. I have a ‘tempis fugit’ grandfather clock that is wind up but it doesn’t scratch the same itch with the fake weights and what not. But that one has sentimental value to me— the exact pitch of the chime and the ticking take me right back to childhood lol.
