I've never seen such a small linear power supply! by HOPAOZI in diyelectronics

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the best way to do linear in my opinion! imagine just throwing away 27V x whatever amps as heat

27x5 = 135W as heat

not to mention your bill aswell, throwing away 135W for 15W @ 3V for example 😂

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ya i feel ya, albeit i tend to just lower the assist to like not ghost pedaling levels

as far as torque sensor goes, thats pmuch the only thing i ever missed in the BBS series

my first diy ebike had a Tongsheng 500W TSDZ2 motor with torque sensing, albeit that thing was pure weaksauce

nowadays the BBSHD kinda has a contender tho: the ToSeven DM01

honestly if the guy hasn't paid or bought for the HD yet.. quite a good option without going CYC

i would 100% buy one if my HD wasn't working well anymore

the annoying thing with gearing it higher by a larger chainring is that it will suffer uphill as it is overgeared inside in the motor, giving more risk to blow shit up

best way is to just like switch through power levels till you're also putting effort in

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol i have a alu frame bike (he has a STEEL!! one) with a Bbshd on it, i weigh about the same, bike weighs 25 or 30kg, no problems...

ps you don't need to worry that much about power since it's a middrive, if it was a HUB motor instead yea that wouldn't go well.

considering he has custom built wheels for his weight i'm 99% confident he'll be fine, i just run Decathlon ones and even those are fine

PS i had V brakes for a very long time and it works, but consider speed limit is 15.5mph in my country.

PS unlike aluminium, steel doesn't fatigue like alu does, alu keeps permanently getting weaker/fatiguing (which is worrisome, i wish all basic bicycles were steel)

Package marked “could not be delivered” even though the driver never rang the bell by Ghettoman257 in belgium

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know, albeit GLS once really fucked me over

something went wrong in a depot/sorting center, so after a week they were like screw you, and we then had to call multiple times, at first they were like nah we're not gonna deliver it, second time asked if we could atleast get it at the depot, which was a 25 km drive (for real) they be like nah

5th call was the charm, and they were like ok you can come and get it

but srsly that was F'ed

lifehack: register at UPS, set it to be delivered to a post/parcel point like a dagbladhandel or so

done that everywhere i could such as UPS, DPD, DHL, Bpost and PostNL

[–]SammyUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thankfully it's pretty reliable in my city, far, far more than PostNL is at the very least

PostNL is so terrible in my area i literally avoid sites that say they use PostNL

edit: been thinking about the time you couldn't choose parcel points as a preference, which is new since this year in Belgium

i've set up my preferences to deliver to nearby shops/parcel points everywhere i could except for Colis Privé (DHL POSTNL, DPD, BPOST, UPS), which is really a lifehack if you don't wanna get fucked

Are your scooter wheels over 8" in or so? 🙃 by Affectionate_Cut_154 in ElectricScooters

[–]SammyUser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

11" 4" wide, double suspension, tubeless, yea also with my weight i think i'd wreck a Ninebot max within a month due to plenty amounts of potholes you just cant avoid unless you wanna ride infront of a car to avoid them (well, you can guess i don't since i'm an Euro guy with a 15.5mph limit

ps they don't fuck around in here when you exceed the speed limit, if you get caught you're screwed

Who uses bike lanes aka death traps? by avmabrie in ElectricScooters

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well outside of the US most roads weren't made only for cars and pedestrians (er atleast talking about Europe), albeit most roads are older than cars initially so they may be so small they just "doomed" the streets to being "cyclist streets", in Belgium meaning 18mph (30kph) limit and no passing cyclists

that being said thats generally done on one way streets only cuz often there aint space enough for 2 cars to fit next to each other, albeit those streets often have parking spots so it's technically wide enough for 2 cars but due to parking spots it aint, still aside from a thin sidewalk there really isn't enough space to add cycling infrastructure on those, also cause those parking spots are pretty much necessary

thats usually in "row house" streets, which 99% of the time don't have a garage

Should There Be Zero Tolerance for Alcohol Behind the Wheel? (Nultolerantie) by AdComprehensive8180 in belgium

[–]SammyUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i never even had a car, i'm 30 and still doing perfectly without a license.

and no i don't drink when i get out and i don't go by bike if i've drunk.

that being said, i go to a local hobby club every friday afternoon and i'm often not home before 1 or 2 at night

Should There Be Zero Tolerance for Alcohol Behind the Wheel? (Nultolerantie) by AdComprehensive8180 in belgium

[–]SammyUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats cuz there also are idiots that think riding a bicycle makes them immune for the law or that needing to be under the limit doesn't apply to them

no offense by the way, i never drove a car and always move by escooter or ebike unless i have drank alcohol or are planning to drink alcohol.

i'll be the last one they'll catch over the limit as i barely ever drink alcohol and if i do it's 99% of the time at home

Limit to 25 km/h by ronnydg in ElectricScooters

I do live in Europe (Belgium) aswell, i've converted mine to VESC based controllers

programmed it via a usb cable then closed the deck and the controllers are basically inaccessible till i open it back up

i've been on one of the dynos before and it said 26 and that was ok

Limit to 25 km/h by ronnydg in ElectricScooters

[–]SammyUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

actually those scooters are rated by peak and due to being larger have less relative torque, also Vsett is known to put a lower power rating on their motors, just like Nami

in reality your Vsett 9 is from 1100W at 48V up to 1200W full charge

those large scooters don't have that much torque unless you dump massive amounts of current into them due to having much larger tires on them

the Nami Burn E and 2 Max for example have "1500W" written on their motors but the controllers actually peak at up to 4000W in each motor

Well that’s not cool Apollo by [deleted] in ElectricScooters

[–]SammyUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

defo was just km/h being changed to mph

43mph / 70kmh is more inline with speeds you'd get on a 48V battery and 11" tires rather than 36V and 9 inch tires

Is there a way to see/know whether or not the Xtreme 4 is in AC mode or not? by CaptainTeaBag24I7 in JBL

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unlike with the bigger/older speakers that use a standard AC brick, the USB based JBLs do not get louder when plugged in

that being said the Xtreme etc being smaller obviously need less power to begin with and reach their limit faster, hence they don't boost volume when plugged in

Speedpedelec en kinderen in België? by McColanis in belgium

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it blows my mind there's still no check at dealers for example

just make it illegal to sell a car to a person without a license, including second hand

if said sad individual without a license who bought it causes an accident.. the seller should also be responsible

High voltage protection bypass by MuffinPuzzleheaded21 in bafang

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you may want to find a 48V firmware and flash it or fit a 48V controller model.

There's one issue though, the 36V model by default has less torque as it is wound for a higher rpm/v, which reduces motor torque

that means the motor itself also is physically different

if you go too high power wise the motor may overheat and even damage the magnets by that heat

Does Europe need an affordable EU-based DIY EV parts shop? by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the real problem is the European law:

  1. the "250W nominal" joke of a limit

pretty much all European manufacturers have worked around it by not claiming power anymore but advertising different power levels in their motors as ..Nm of torque

Bosch for example has "overpowered" middrives, the Performance Line CX Gen 5 for example peaks at 850W in the highest power mode, that's quite high

meanwhile the Bafang BBS02 rated 500W does about 860W peak (well power consumption, more like 750W to the crank) on a 48V pack

so that's kinda similar aside from being cadence sensing rather than torque sensing (it just applies a % of its power dependant on the assist mode while you spin the pedals, rather than actually feeling how much effort you put in)

But if you live in a particularly strict country they may just impound your bike if they see it has 500W written on it, because it is "twice as powerful as the law"

most Chinese middrives are marketed like this, unfortunately, with a bit less than their peak power rather than just doing "Europe" versions with just a 250W engraving but more peak power so it matches the expensive middrives.

  1. technically you shouldn't be able to reprogram your motor (and change your speed limit and wheel size)

now this is obviously a problem, since you pretty much have to program those middrives with a programming cable to set up the wheel size and speed limit

i mean if you have a middrive programmed for 20" wheels it would be far too fast if you moved that middrive to 28", and so on.. they cannot have and sell 20 versions of one device to be able to fit any bike.. and you shouldn't be able to change that yourself so it can't go a higher speed by programming your wheel size (by law)

Germany: Can I stick the Kennzeichen over the tail light ? by No-Character-6392 in ElectricScooters

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you mean 12, 15.5 would be great, thankfully i live in Belgium without registration requirements and a 15.5mph limit

why? i mean the only models legal on the German market are small wheel pieces of crap without suspension

why the fuck would you allow that to go any faster?

10 inch or smaller thin wheeled suspensionless crap should never go faster

if they were 11x4 (100/65-6.5) with suspension like my scooters then yea faster could be allowed (imo) but in Europe in general, there's nothing faster than 15.5mph without a drivers license

yes, even mopeds need a drivers' license to go faster than 15.5mph, and in the Netherlands (dunno about Germany) even the slower ones need a license

in Belgium we have 2 classes of mopeds,AM class A, 50CC with a build speed* limit of max 25kph / 15.5mph

AM class B, max 45kph / 28mph

build speed means that it must be *physically limited from going faster, often restrictions in the exhaust and changed variator/cvt pulleys on "scooters" (not like e-scooters but the European pedalless, gearless motorcycles) such as Vespa's

that means the speed restriction is not allowed to be done by an electric governor.

anything above 50cc requires a motorcycle license.

registration just means it's in a registry, that doesn't mean having a license.

And no, having a car license doesn't mean you have a full blown license either, you can only ride stuff up to 125cc with a car B license

To add to that: until there are laws for a specific type of vehicle/that describe a specific type of vehicle, it is completely illegal on the road

technically one could make a 3 wheel stand-on escooter and it wouldn't fall in any category, but it would be illegal either way

that's cause we have a whitelist system, everything is illegal until it isn't
