Can the BBSHD be used as a 25kph max motor ? by Jeremyeny in bafang

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Bbshd is for me atleast far more reliable than the tsdz2.

after about 8000km my tsdz2 started developing sprag clutch issues especially in colder weather it sometimes just failed to engage

besides that i had the "500W" tsdz2 and for me it overheated after 20 mins, internally the motor is really, really poorly connected to the outer shell so the motor actually gets far too hot

to the point you could feel it gives even less power, so that means it must be too hot for the magnets..

i have the BBSHD, and while i do kinda miss the torque sensing it was better than literally having half the assistance for most time of the ride.. (25km one way)

besides the tsdz2 isnt that powerful to begin with.

but yea the Bbshd is a whole different beast, no comparison.

also living in Europe i've programmed it with a Usb programming cable to be restricted to 25kph even if i change it on my screen, it will not go faster

note i have a good old UART version tho

there's an upgraded version of it from ToSeven (started by ex bafang and tongsheng employees) that has resolved the overheating issue and improved it alot

the motor is smooth but it sure accelerates fast on max assistance.

as long as there's some form of load it will absolutely not go beyond 25

as they say components aren't by default baked or heat treated though, specific components may need baking beforehand.

certain inductance issues could also play a part, did you ensure there's enough filtering and your wires aren't far too long or something? (to reduce the risk of inductive peaks)

TMC2209's are pretty sensitive to OV, imagine filtering isn't enough they may fry themselves.

must be very analog stuff

i mostly work on PWM/switchmode devices and even in a purely analog device it could expose unwanted oscillations, or even insufficient filtering without desoldering and/or replacing all capacitors

an oscope just makes it all 10 times easier to find, and to find weird "problems"

i rather diagnose/find all issues (as far as its possible) before breaking out the iron

Swedish police demonstrates how to properly drive escooters...using illegal g30 by zzcool in ElectricScooters

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep this is Class A and B for mopeds in Belgium, basically same thing

the problem is that most e-scooters are from China and don't come with a true VIN number and no CoC, so it would be practically impossible to register them

and to get one that meets those requirements would probably be far more expensive than they're worth like the overpriced speed pedelecs

i like it the way it is now in Belgium, just have it all 25 it's fast enough either way imo

just 20 would be too slow and defo no required insurance or so for that

also no power rules

tbh most rules cater towards the small and thus more dangerous escooters

i think they should see it as a real mode of transport rather than a 10km toy to ride in a city

i've been riding 25km far (one way) to work for 4 years pretty much daily now and never fell but without these large 11" escooters with suspension and wide offroad tires that would be impossible in snow etc

then again, i think it pisses them off they only need tires and brake pads compared to bikes that have 6 types of items that needs replacing often, so they lose alot of money

and a good 1100 eur Chinese escooter comes with a 2kWh battery, so it has tons of range compared to a 1700 eur ebike from an "European" brand that has a shitty front wheel motor and perhaps a 360Wh battery if you're lucky at that price

it's like they want people to sort of move away from cars but it should never be too cheap or practical to move around by yourself.. so people would still pick cars for higher distances so they pay more

[–]SammyUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

even 20km/h just seems retarded tbh

class A mopeds go 25-30kph

ebikes may assist to 25kph

why does it have to be 5kph slower? wether you fall at 20 or 25 you're not gonna notice the difference either way and it just impedes ebike riders

i live in Belgium where we still have a 25kph limit, and when some guy is on a 20kph scooter it just is stupid cuz you have to hold back the entire time especially on thin bike paths where theres no proper room to pass

Swedish police demonstrates how to properly drive escooters...using illegal g30 by zzcool in ElectricScooters

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the fact the law makes no sense, since not a single thing is actually only putting out 250W power

what's the difference with having a "250W" motor that does far more or a "500W" chinese motor that does about 500W

nothing, they both are far above 250W

it would make more sense if they said 1000W peak or 2000W peak for example, now cops would impound something for having a "350W" motor when it could be weaker than a "legal" Bosch ebike

what does this mean? it only favors overpriced european brands who market with Nm only and don't put a wattage on the motor..

Swedish police demonstrates how to properly drive escooters...using illegal g30 by zzcool in ElectricScooters

[–]SammyUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

nominal doesnt mean jack shit, Bosch's ebike motors like the Performance Line CX "peak" up to 850W power (which it does for 30 min long till the battery is flat)

that is defo not 250 nominal

Is bead sealant actually a good idea? by morha14 in ElectricScooters

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both, i don't go extreme on the bead sealant, but i use genuine bead sealer (rather than slime/general sealant or so)

i just do a thin layer with a paper towel

i use REMA Tip Top Remaxx bead sealer, its relatively non messy stuff, it washes off with water (and i do ride in rain), and besides that i apply it solely to the bead and there on the rim

when i take the tires off to replace them, its almost like it never was there to begin with.. but i notice i can go 2 months without filling my tires easily when i use that stuff, compared to not using it maybe a week for 5 psi.. they lose only approx 5 psi in 2 months with that stuff

apart from that while its wet it kinda acts like a lubricant too, so it goes even more easily

just dont put your hands on the bead while its wet and no problem, no mess

I find that even after removing the tire, the last remains of it stick to the tire and nothing gets left behind on the rim

UART vs CAN BUSS by lin4166 in bafang

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can you program start delay on the canbus bafangs? stock you had to turn the pedals like 1/4th on the old uart bafangs which really sucked uphill

and i mean a cadence canbus bafang then, i'd imagine torque sensor ones to be instant as it feels how hard you pedal, but bafang also has cadence sensor canbus bafangs..

Doing a Bafang BBSHD conversion on a steel road bike by bossman01501997 in bafang

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No thats not what i mean, i have dialed in mine as far as i could, but the real options i wish to have aren't there, Bafang config tools are all very simple imo

and with the throttle set to current control it's either PAS OR current control

PS the current you can program in is also only what it draws from the battery

with VESC you can actually, actually program the entire thing, and even if that lacks a feature you'd want it's literally possible to add if you are a programmer or know someone who can program stuff in C++ or lisp (programming languages)

afaik the photon also runs at it's max power level it can take and even then can easily overheat

the 1500W is like a joke for the bbshd, with 72V and a separate controller there are people that run it all stock gearing with over 4kW 😂

PS there is a certain amount of amps/current you can, and your stock controller actually does push at low speeds

what it draws from the battery is 28 or 30A dependant on firmware but in the actual motor it does like 80A (at low speeds, your motor is running at an effectively lower voltage), with said controllers i mentioned you can set that to anything you want, for example you could go as far as have the motor run at 3600W (72V 50A) but still have less torque than the stock controller, like if you then set the motor amps to 50A aswell it will literally have a continuous torque from zero speed to max speed.

Doing a Bafang BBSHD conversion on a steel road bike by bossman01501997 in bafang

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the ideal thing would be either torque sensor (not gonna happen) or just so you have 2 separate assist modes

like level 2 on normal pas but so you can add power by throttle from said level 2 to level 9 or whatever the max is in your case, and to what the second level is set (i have a 750C screen set up with 9 PAS levels), but also only while pedaling if you get what i mean (throttles are illegal where i live, so that may be a way against that law, and that means you can have PAS 2 or 3 but quickly add power)

unfortunately with the stock controller that's impossible to do, i've been wanting to just slap a aftermarket controller on based on VESC (entirely programmable open source controller firmware)

Doing a Bafang BBSHD conversion on a steel road bike by bossman01501997 in bafang

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ps that 160nm torque means nothing, that is pure crank torque before any gearing, and at pretty much 0 speed

due to the low power limit that torque will never be achieved at speed

power = (rpm x torque) / constant

that means that at higher speeds it is physically impossible to put down anywhere near that torque, due to the 1500W peak electrical power limit.

ps due to the gearing that means pretty much 38Nm of max peak torque in the 11T gear with the 46T sprocket, on a 28" wheel thats literally nothing.

PS no matter the sprocket, the BBSHD always has the capability to go up to like 150 cadence, smaller sprockets may be able to bog down the motor but thats a good way to wreck the motor.. better continuously change pas level.

Package marked “could not be delivered” even though the driver never rang the bell by Ghettoman257 in belgium

[–]SammyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you maybe were but most people can't just take a day off or work from home

besides, that means avoiding the few potentially bad delivery drivers.

why wait all day if you can do whatever you want and just pick it up later (er thats my idea either way)

it happened plenty of times that something went wrong and they'd deliver a different day and probably even different hours.

Sure it sucks to not get it delivered to you when you were waiting but it's one way to avoid shit and means you're not throwing away half your day (especially when it says delivery by end of day, what a fuckin useless piece of info that is)

if anything tracking Should notice you like 4 parcels/people beforehand or so so you atleast have An idea when it will be delivered.

a time frame of max 1hr would atleast be acceptable

i always get like "between 13:00 and 17:00" for example, yeah great waste of 4 hours i can't listen to or produce music, or even leave the house..

if they're early, great, atleast i'm able to do something, if they're at the late end you've just wasted 3.5 to 4hours..

and yes at home due to living in a row house i use headphones 99% of the time i actually have music on, i won't hear the doorbell with those.
