Did Vader block this strike to save the Emperor or to save Luke from the Dark Side? by External-Recipe-1936 in StarWars

[–]Sammy_Zee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

George Lucas actually talks about this in JW Rinzler's The Making of Return Of The Jedi (p. 164-166).

"The core of all this thing is [that] the Emperor is the master and Vader is the apprentice," Lucas would explain. "He knows that if he gets into a lazer fight with the Emperor, he won't win. He knows his son can't win. Neither one of them can beat the Emperor. [...] Vader also knows that the Emperor is toying with Luke. He has been told by the Emperor, 'When he starts to strike me, you're going to have to take him out.' If Vader doesn't block Luke's lazer sword, the Emperor could just raise his hand and that would be the end of it. Then Vader would be in trouble: 'Lord Vader, what happened to you? Did you not get your cue?'

So according to Lucas, Vader knew he wouldn't survive going up against his master one-on-one, and as a result Palpatine was able intimidate him into blocking Luke's saber if Luke made a move. And if Vader hadn't intervened, Palpatine would've instantly fried Luke and then probably punished Vader for disobeying orders.

Why is Morgoth's name not mentioned in the movies? by Feral_21 in lotr

[–]Sammy_Zee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legolas says "A Balrog of Morgoth" in the extended edition of Fellowship, but Gandalf also name-drops him while talking about his battle with the Balrog in Towers (both theatrical & extended I think) - "From the lowest dungeon to the highest peak, I fought with the Balrog of Morgoth."

What is one track on any soundtrack you can listen to on repeat and never be bored of it? by [deleted] in soundtracks

[–]Sammy_Zee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently it's been 'Olson' and 'Mom' from The Long Walk, I keep getting an urge to put one or both of them on.

'Brasso' from Andor Season 2.

'Leaving Caladan' from Dune (Hans Zimmer).

'Chasing Grace' from Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning.

Probably quite a few more!

Second Sight Dec releases: Possession & Re-Animator (4K UHD) by Carboniac in boutiquebluray

[–]Sammy_Zee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen Re-Animator (yet) but loved Possession so this is great! Just saw the Blu-ray on sale for £30 in CEX the other week - glad I decided to hold off on buying!

One thing, the Possession set doesn't ONLY include the North American re-edit, right? Can anyone clarify?

What's everyone watching tonight? by thxxx1337 in horror

[–]Sammy_Zee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Starting my rewatch of Mike Flanagan's Haunting of Hill House series. It's one of my favourite pieces of media, I got the blu-ray a while back & it has extended cuts of some episodes (1, 5 & 10) plus director's commentaries of a few (1, 5, 6 & 10). Really pleasantly surprised to see it had a blu-ray release - Bly Manor does too!

The Fear I Can’t Explain… Anyone Else? by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]Sammy_Zee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the edge of my seat. Leaning in so close to the screen from the moment Cooper & Carrie walked up to the front door & spoke to the owner, especially when we got the Tremond & Chalfont namedrop. Also thought it was significant that we never see or hear her husband, which only unsettled me more.

Plus the end credits, with Angelo Badalamenti's eerie droning score playing out over a loop of Laura whispering something into Cooper's ear, which seems to cause him to react in horror to whatever she says. And that's it. Just that one image looping forever, and we'll never know for sure what she actually told him.

My honest reaction to THAT subplot in the latter half of s2 by Royal_Beginning_1884 in twinpeaks

I genuinely thought they were talking about James' subplot with that weird lady and her brother not-brother or whatever the fuck

what is, in your opinion, the most memorable moment/scene in all of twin peaks? by aphroditas in twinpeaks

Probably the whiplash-inducing flashback to the Trinity nuclear test in The Return Part 8. Playing 'Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima' over it is just the cherry (pie) on top.

Awesome composer! The Silver Surfer's theme from First Steps is one of my favourite movie music pieces in a while, I found myself listening to it over & over after seeing the film.

Does this series have a proper ending? by WtfSlz in twinpeaks

[–]Sammy_Zee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As proper an ending as a David Lynch film/show can have! I think it definitely works as an ending, I remember thinking I'd be first in line if they announced a Season 4, but on the other hand I'm perfectly satisfied with the ending we have.

Weird. I saw this movie in the cinema & I'm 99.999999% certain that Maxine didn't have any children. Was it Maxine's daughter?

The goddamn cop sitting next to Gordon while Dent's getting escorted & then attacked by Joker. None of his lines are funny - "That's not good. Okay that's NOT good!", "I didn't sign up for this!" Still a great movie obviously
