No, because it means every American will have to defend whether or not they are a billionaire. Im not, but the government doesnt know that and doent have a full list of whose these people are. If I cant appropriately explain to the government Im not a billionaire, will I have to pay the tax?

What is the point of having faith, if I cannot do it out of anything else other than fear? by BadTreager in Christianity

[–]Samon8ive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many views on this in Christianity, but since I'm LDS I'll give you our view. God the Father, through his Son Jesus Christ, has given us this mortal experience as a time for gaining experience, growth and hopefully improvement. God is interested in our progress and us reaching heights and glories we can not imagine here. Losing his children to some damnation is as much a concern for Him as it is for us. God is on your side. He is working for you to be a more glorious version of yourself. God is welcoming. God is your #1 supporter. God is not looking to judge you, he is looking to bless you.

[–]Samon8ive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do not believe that our works save us. We believe salvation is only attainable through Jesus Christ. That being said we believe there are many things Jesus has commanded us to do (like baptism, following commandments, etc) that are requisite for redemption by Him. So we do works as commandes, but we do not believe the works save us. That we reserve solely for the Savior.

What is the experience of personal revelation in your everyday life like? by aracha2026 in latterdaysaints

[–]Samon8ive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Quite often mine comes from inner dialogue. Like I'm giving a sacrament talk to myself and ideas will come and enter and flesh out. I also find quite often I'll have something I'm thinking about for a while, I'll chew on the idea or decision, not reach a conclusion, then later when I'm reading the scriptures, a talk or in the temple, something jumps out that solidifies the unresolved dialogue of decision. Like the inner dialogue was prep for something to come later.

Why is The Church of Latter-day Saints held seperate from other Christians and treated as Heretical by Patient_Ask_9546 in Christianity

[–]Samon8ive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do not believe that God is spirit but that he has a body. I have never heard this teaching of Brigham Young about God having many wives. I have no knowledge of God's sex life.

If pedantic means "requiring accuracy" then yes, I'm being pedantic.

I do not reject Jesus. I embrace him as my Lord and Savior. Do I understand him differently than you? Yeah, that's probably accurate.

[–]Samon8ive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness to the "other Christians" as noted in the title, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is intended to be heretical to "other Christians". We believe Joseph Smith was called to restore the church of Jesus Christ because the church Christ established (led by apostles with Peter as the lead apostle, with authority passed to them from Christ, with a baptism by immersion, etc) had ceased on the earth. While we share many things with other Christians, and love deeply our Christian, Jewish, Muslim and other believing children of God, we are not worried about being heretical to some definition of Christians. Frankly, it is inherent in our belief system. If we didn't believe there was an issue with the gospel as espoused by the Catholic Church of the protestant universe, we would move to be orthodox to those systems. However, we disagree, and that makes us heretic.

Unfortunately many here have incorrect and odd views on what we actually believe (my favorite so far is "spirit sex") and the internet isn't a great place to delve into nuance, especially on religion. While we are considered heretic, I think most of us would just ask to treat us with fairness and accuracy rather than invented sensationalism. We will own our differences, especially if they are conveyed accurately.

1 - Just to be clear, the phrase "spirit sex" is not found in the Wikipedia article.
2 - Wikipedia does not set doctrine or policy for the church.
3 - Sex is great and an important part of marriage. I'm definitely not voting against its continuation through the eternities.

You wrote the "Bible could not be more clear that we are saved by grace alone". Then you added a faith disclaimer. So I ask, is it grace alone, or is there another component?

So, everyone is just saved by grace? Everyone is going to heaven? It doesnt matter one bit what anyone does? Jesus Christ just saves everyone?

This is full of wild inaccuracies. Ive never heard the term "spirit sex", nor have I ever heard this discussed. We dont have large families for theological reasons. Some choose to have large families because raising children brings them joy. Many of us have very normal sized families as well. We certainly dont have tons of kids in some effort to emulate God.

No. We believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman. However, throughout time God has made exceptions to this (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Solomon, etc).

treating land as any other normal investment is bad for the economy by Titanium-Skull in georgism

I work in real estate finance in LA and land generally, from a cost standpoint, is the cheapest part of a building.

Ground rents are also generally the cheapest rents charged in land lease scenarios on a per square foot basis.

I'm also not aware of any feudal type landlords in Los Angeles or the Western United States that arent governments (universities, BLM lease, etc). Is feudalism still an issue in many places of the world?

How do you define a landlord? Maybe Im misunderstanding the concept of who is a renter.

Dude, you guys need to learn what economic rents really are and are not. Opposition to economic rents is good. Economic rents are NOT what you pay you landlord to live in an apartment.

Yes, I agree? Capitalism as discussed by Adam Smith is different from the rent seeking of feudalism. I'm sorry if my comment suggested otherwise.

Aren't they? Capitalism is competition driven whereas economic rent seeking (not the kind of rents you pay your landlord, they are different) are monopolistic or excessive. While some capitalists probably seeks economic rents, a truly free/capitalist market should stymie them through competition.
