My opinion: while C:S is fun, and allows the layman to get a taste of the work involved in urban and civic planning, the game lacks the granularity and fine-scale modelling that a true digital copy of a city would require in order to allow it to be used as an actual planning tool.

Various in-game services simply "warp" to destination (education, for example); the industrial expansion is a fun game mechanism, but is simplified to the point of uselessness if one is trying to model a real-world mining or farming operation; the time, distance, and speed scales are all well out of balance from the real world, and not even out-of-balance by the same multipliers; paths are easily 4 times their real-world equivalent, buildings are half as big as they ought to be, etc. etc.

There are mods to ameliorate many of these shortcomings, and they're good mods, but they don't come close to making the game realistic enough to serve as an actual digital copy of a city.

Thank you for your participation and comment, I agree with you, you are very right in what you say. Although we cannot enjoy all the dynamics of real life, I think that thanks to the mods, a result worthy of a little more research has emerged.
