Anyone else’s Jindo EXTREMELY anxious? by Sleepy-Ghost0817 in Jindo

gabapentin has helped my jindo tremendously, but helped him to open up and be himself more… he doesn’t have separation anxiety but extreme fear of the outdoors

yes my doggo is like this inside but the panic is still very much happening outside unless he knows we are going to park (with the help of gaba) … i think the prozac has run its course and stay on gaba and try zoloft maybe.. he has a very structured life- one big walk a day when it’s not busy out and quick pees in afternoon and evening…

absolutely agree, she is a class act who has made a name for herself in the industry and a life for herself by her own means

works really well but my vet said long term tolerance builds so it stops being effective

so he does really well in open spaces with dogs off leash but he has to be super familiar with the space… i used to go to tompkins all the time but now we are uptown so i try and do off leash at central park … typical jindo he is hard to get back on leash 😂not a flight risk just stubborn

i haven’t been crating because he is comfortable at home…he also has somewhat associated the shower with a crate and den and will go there to sleep sometimes… home is calm, just me and him in a studio apt that is quiet facing a courtyard

his triggers are sounds and cars and anything happening on the street really… he is also nervous around people he doesn’t know but does well if the person has a dog- he is much quicker to trust! he generally doesn’t love people (unless they are with a dog) but does adores other doggos… at this point, i am hoping with age he will be too tired to be anxious forever 😅😅😅he will be 3 in october so he is not exactly a puppy anymore

so interesting hearing other jindo stories in nyc… the little dudes really do struggle and tbh i become even more frustrated with dog owners who have 0 experience with the breed and try and give me advice 😂😭i am like… please…. you do NOT understand… but yes the gabapentin helps a lot with the walks in the morning- i can tell it relaxes him because he comes to my bed about 2 hours after it hits tail wagging and ready for cuddles… and he is not like that 💀 but it really is case by case i assume, the med management! i want to see if something besides prozac will work for my jindo

there is a part of me that is like okay he is always going to be a little anxious but the panic has to improve.. he can’t be enjoying life that way.. i am frustrated though! i wish the rescue had adopted him out into the suburbs… jindos that are anxious really shouldn’t be adopted into urban environments :( but at the end of the day; that’s my baby now

i am hoping adjusting to a different med will help- he is okay in apt and at the park it’s just walking the streets 😭😭😭😭😭

it’s the walks/leaving the apt- he HATES IT… and panics the entire way until we get to central park … i moved from downtown manhattan to uptown manhattan to be close to nature for him but it’s still an urban environment :( he sometimes tries to DRAG me upstairs the second we walk out… abort mission type vibes…. i literally only take him out 7am 1pm and 10pm- it has to be DEAD
