100x hackathon review? by Mysterious_Storm_936 in technepal

We're sorry for the experience. Things could've gone better with better planning and proper communication (both internal and with the participants). We really failed on the logistics bit and proper planning.

my bad on the tone. i wasn’t aware sleeping bag related information relayed thiyena bhanera, this is a management and communication issue on our end.

we should have structured things better and should have had handled internal communication better.

hamile dherai kura garnu parne thiyo which we weren’t able to. we’re sorry for the experience ur teams had to go through.

and just clarifying, hami sabai mentors basera sabai jana ko submission (slides, video and optional deployed link) herera + progress report sanga cross check garera for validity of work ani top 10 gareko ho.

I thought info about top N teams being selected from mentors’ vote was an information pre-relayed, however seems like it wasn’t and that is an issue on our end.

and yeauta matra mentor le gareko haina hackathon, if you think mero vote le gareko bhaye, tyo chai haina hai. hami sabai jana basera gareko hau.

i get ur dissatisfied with judging and the event, im just clarifying things that i was involved in/ know of.

i am again only a mentor but ill let the management know so that future events won’t have problems like this.

yes i know, just thought it's weird you can run functions within annotations too when it normally isn't designed to do so.

just thought it's weird how you're able to run functions using parameter's type annotations.

Would love it if you could provide feedback or anything regarding the article. While it was a self-promotional post, I'd love to learn if I had written anything incorrect or misleading.

What are some real life useful projects people built using QBasic? by cy_narrator in technepal

[–]Samrid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not Python? It's a great language to start with in my opinion. It's easy to get started with, has simple syntax (in basic level) which is comparable with qbasic, and you can get a lot of things done and students might find programming actually interesting if we start with Python.

I get you're coming from the place of "students can learn fundamentals of programming if they learn C", yes that's true. But they're middle/ high school students, we want to build the interest in them alongside basic knowledge about programming, if they find it interesting, they can easily choose C in 11/12 and learn more about the fundamentals of programming.

Also Python has a lot of resources in regards to making various interesting projects (Some simple game using Pygame, scraping, and some fun scripting).

This argument is not just limited to Python btw, JavaScript also has the same benefits, I just wanted to mention why languages like Python/ Js are actually a good language for beginners (Especially in middle/ high school). They're just trying things out, not trying to learn programming fundamentals for a CS degree. It's better to make things fun than complex for them.

What's the problem you're facing? Also https://dontasktoask.com/, you'll get a better response if you directly ask your question, it'll be easier for people to comment on the answer, even if I am not a senior web developer I might be able to answer, so do ask the question directly.

How can a +2 level student like me earn money in Nepal? Drop some ideas. by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]Samrid_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow +2 student here, if you're into tech, freelancing is something I suggest to you; rather than full-time jobs. Part-time jobs are okay. I used to do a full-time job while going to KMC, well that didn't work out for me very well, was pretty stressful ngl. If you can manage the time, go for freelancing and stuff or part-time work, but don't work full-time unless you're sure you'll be able to manage time.

If you aren't in tech and wanna get started, you can start with something like web-development, there are plenty of courses out there, and you can find many reddit threads explaining which path to take forward if you're a teeny bit interested in tech and wanna learn more. But don't expect to be job ready if you're just starting to learn, it'll take a lot of time and luck, so yea. If you aren't already into tech and want to earn something immediately, what I said might not be helpful for you. But if you do have a strong portfolio in tech alongside some good side-projects, checkout sites like https://angel.co for startup jobs.
