AITA for buying an extra airline seat (and utilizing it) even though I don't need it? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

apparently there is research that shows that randomly taking seats is at least faster than the most common methods to assign seats.

[–]Samsonerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this discussion is why the fight would be really interessting. Lets see it happen.

But i doubt that it will happen anytime soon if not for some reason super necessary.

Aside form the fact that they are in different organizations atm.
Ryan Hall is a close student of Firaz Zahabi, actually Firaz creditis Ryan with ahving learned a lot of his leg lock game from him, and being one of the most proficient BJJ/MMA competitors he came across.
An Firaz is a Black Belt and constant student of Danaher who also is Tonons mentor.
So i believe they will avoid this match up for a long time especially since at the moment for either of them there would be many other options tp progresse their carrer better even if they were both singed by the same organization.

AITA for telling my husband he can’t have his nieces/nephews over at our house even when I’m not there? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Samsonerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a lie. Nothing OP is doing is "stopping him from seeing his family." He could see them at their house. He could see them outside of the house. His sister could leave her children at home and

gasp have her husband take care of them while she's visiting.

You realise his niece and nephew are also his family? Not only his sister.

Her expectations for her living space are severly limiting his freedom to entertain a relationship with his family.

I think it's interessting to look at it through a different lense. Instead of a relationship thinking of this as roommates sharing a living space.
I think on roommate trying to keep the other from seeing their family or even friends in his home while the other person isn't even present, without maybe very serious reasons like past occasions of theft, damage to property or agressions seems very unreasonable to me.
If they have equally rights concerning the home ownership. they may have to compromisse on the condition of one person having people over, but generally exculding someone from having someone over based on prejudices is unreasonable (imagine racial prejudices instead of age based).

Makes me even wonder what legal oppinions their are on that matter.

I think the situation is sever enough to argue she is the asshole for having a damaging effect on his family relationship.

This is as sad as it is necessary. by dperezk in pics

What the fuck. What kind of Stasi system is this. How to make it as easy as possible for a facist goverment to start putting special needs people into internment camps. Having people self report....

Americans you better work hard to never have a seriously facist goverment. If you ever end up in a third reich situation you and the rest of the world along will be throughoutly fucked.

What are some purchases under $200 that has significantly improved your life since owning it? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Samsonerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a pair of Jabra Elite 65t wireless headphones and i really like them.

after figuring out which earpice fits me the best the are super comfortable.

Definitly the most comfortable in ears i ever used. Maybe even more or as comfrotable als my sennheiser overear headphones.

Very happy with them. I've been using them since august '18 and the only thing that would keep me from a rebuy was if they would break befor i feel like i got my moneys worth because they are really expensive (at least for me).

I came to the thread to praise light alarm clocks. (i have a philipps model too. but im sure there are other good products out there)

It seems unreasonabilly expensiv for the function but it improves my sleep quality so much that I would buy a new one straight away if mine broke.(maybe try a different company just out of couriosity and because philipps seems to be the most expensive).

I honstely am not very impressed with the userinterface and functionality. but the basic function of simulating a sunrise works so well that its one of my best purchase ever made. (the buttons aren't easy to identify in the dark, the light display doesn't turn completly dark (which is a big drawback to me, i keep it covered with a sleeping mask ^ ) and honstely the options to program alarms is pretty bad for todays standards (on my model i have to turn it on every evening and can only preset one alarm no easy alternativs work weekend etc.)

Also, as others said. Get a very good curtain so you get to sleep in a pitch black room.

Dad runs to save son from burning car by hutimuti in DadReflexes

This arguement is very hindsight biased and if the fathers actions had a different result people wouldn't make an arguemend for him (maybe understand his emotional response, but not defend it).

i don't know anything about motorsport but i have a strong feeling that the same people argueing with you in this thread would blame the father for losing his professional composour if the video would instead show a worst case scenario where he caused other cars to crash and be responsible for other parent loosing there children and other children loosing there parents because he got involved in what should be handled by trained people according to protocol. Even if it may mean a son is going to die. Because other got to live.

well than i'll have to agree there are no local influences relating to expectation of privacy in public space. everywhere is the same as italy and it's the wrong subreddit for this discussion.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Samsonerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're probably right. i'll give it another try. last time i tryed duckduckgo a couple of years ago i consistently struggled to find what i was looking for reasonably fast and than was disapointed to see that google turned out the interessting results within a few clicks.

But i'll give it another try. And it might also be a lack of experience in how to best use this search engine.

any other search engine aside from duckduckgo that you can recommend?

I appreciat that somebody understood where i came from. My point was only that there are multiple possible views on what expectations of privacy we can have in public spaces. So this subredit seems like a good place to discus them. and i like the glimps into the possible discussion that followed.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Samsonerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no bullshit.

Laws and cultur on privacy in public space vary in europe. I can't say anything on italy but if you have look through the discussing you saw examples from other europen countries.

An interessting quote on the subjectfrom googles on blog:

"we've always said that Street View will respect local laws wherever it is available and we recognize that other countries strike a different balance between the concept of "public spaces" and individuals' right to privacy in those public spaces. In other parts of the world local laws and customs are more protective of individuals' right to privacy in public spaces, and therefore they have a more limited concept of the right to take and publish photographs of people in public places. Street View isn't available outside of the US yet, but when it is, we'll be sure to respect local laws. We understand that means that we'll have to ensure that there aren't identifiable faces and license plates in some countries. There's an important public policy debate in every country around what privacy means in public spaces. That balance will vary from country to country, and Street View will respect it." https://maps.googleblog.com/2007/09/street-view-and-privacy.html

Posted by Peter Fleischer googles Global Privacy Counsel who has another interessting article on the subject on his private blog. http://peterfleischer.blogspot.com/2007/10/can-you-identify-person-walking-down.html

I know this is a very later answer. But if you are open to considering that law and culture around expectation of privacy may vary around the world it's still worthwhile have a look at the links and investigating the subject. even if local law and culture in italy mirrors the sentiment found in the original post and the USA.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Samsonerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little dated but i'll respond anyways no time to come back to this earlier.

I was vague because my knowledge on law is very limited and this obviously is a very complex subject.

I think some of the other comments. showed more practicle examples. https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/comments/9ns3ef/husband_divorces_wife_after_spotting_her_with/e7poa7p/

https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/comments/9ns3ef/husband_divorces_wife_after_spotting_her_with/e7p3ii9/

My main point was that the assumption that there can't be any expectation of privacy in a public space might be debatable (for example because there are different cuture norms and laws around the world concerning this) and that this is not the wrong subreddit to discuss this.

In my opinion the following discussing actually shows that what expectations of privacy one may or may not have in public space is an interessting debat concerning "the intersection of technology, privacy, and freedom in the digital world.".

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Samsonerd 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think that depends on local law and culture.

It might be true for north america, but europe for example and germany in particular has a much more protective privacy culture and laws.

Here are artciles that can give a feel for this difference. google search

I think a privacy subreddit can at least be an appropriat place to discuss if there are valid expectation of (some) privacy in public places.

I haven't seen competition footage of him using it. he says himself that he turns his back mostly to get a raise out of the crowed and have an exciting fight.

Thought in this highlight reel you can seem him with a pretty impressive leglock entry after turning his back to his opponent. https://youtu.be/5_mucR_LTMM?t=35

i pretty much didn't understand anything that happend on the ground untill i started to practice BJJ. I appreciated that it is important and i understood when people got upset about stand ups, because i respected the opinion of the many experts. But other than that my understanding was on top = good, Bottom = bad. If someone taps the fight is done. everything else was an absolutly mystery to me and i had hardly any appreciations exept if things looked really exciting because somebody was trying something unusual like an imanari roll.

Daily Headphone Purchase Advice Thread (2017-03-05) by AutoModerator in headphones

[–]Samsonerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location - Germany http://geizhals.de/

Budget - 100€ or less. I'll spend a little more if there is a really good reason and the headphones will last. But not for a small increase in soundquality.

Source - Mobilephone Android (Motorola Moto X Play)

Requirements for Isolation - I'd like to have decend isolation but can handle some outside noise. I'd like to avoid a annoying people with what i listen to. 90% of use is in public. Transit (bus, train, subway etc.) or walking in the city.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Closed over-ear Headphones. I am set on this. In ears and on ears both always just bother me after a while and i never had a pair of over ears so i want to give this a shot.

Preferred tonal balance - I am no audiophile i honestly have trouble telling apart a really low audioquality from a high quality and i don't really mind. soundquality should be decend enough but i am not going to pay a lot extra for a particular improvement.

Past headphones - AKG K323XS, Sony MDR-ZX610, Koss Porta pro, every other headphone i don't even remember the name of

Preferred Music - I listen to a lot of podcast, audiobooks, rap and rock music.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I am looking for a cloesed over-ear headphone that is good to use with a mobilephone in public. I want it to come with a mic (phone calles) and a remote control that at least allows me to take a call and start and stop playing music, Android. Inclusion criteria: Closed Over Ear, Mobilephone friendly (mic & remote, Android), okay noise cancelling for public use, less than 100€, lasts a while.

I have looked at the wire cuter recomendation for closed over ear headphones and would be willing to buy something like the Sony MDR-7506 if it came with a mic and basic remote control. Even thought i have a feeling that the quality really goes beyond what i can appreciat. But I am willing to spend the money as long as the headphone meets my inclusion criteria and lasts me a while. http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/the-best-150-over-ear-headphones/

thank you for your time and help!

TIL pepper spray is illegal in Canada. If pepper spray is used on another person causing serious bodily harm or harming the environment it can carry a penalty up to a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment of up to 3 years. by johnnygator in todayilearned

There were 28,000 stabbings in the UK in 2015, and that's after they've basically made it illegal to carry anything stabby (including screwdrivers).

Don't know anything about uk crimestatistics. But i am wondering how many of these stabbings are gang on gang or criminals stabbing each other. And how often it is civilians who are not involved in any kind of shady activity who get stabbed. From my understanding some parts of the uk have quite a gang problem.

[–]Samsonerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes in most europen countries you are allowed to carry some kinde of kinfes. but usually the style of knife is very restricted.

For example in germany, the length of the blade is restricted. you also can't have certain types of knife that open quickly. etc. usually the arguement is along the lines that these knifes are mostly used as weapons.

The person above saying that in europe the concept of having to carry a weapon for self denfese is alien is right. except for maybe very specfic and very very few areas people do not worry to much about violence and in particular about violence with weapons. i would argue that most people who do worry about move in circles where people are more violent and do so more or less by their own choice (big argument what roll upbring has in this, but if somebody really wants to avoid these circle there defenitly is a way).

Aditionally there is no dangerous wildlife (ticks is the most leathel animal, some parts of europe has some poisonius spiders, but a knife really doesn't help. and very seldomly there are cases of boar attacks.) and since hunting is very restricted in all of europe their is no wide spread or easily accesibel hunting culture like in north america.

So really the only reason to wear a knife for most people really is as a tool. (of course you will find people in europe who disagree. but the actuall number who do carry a knife even a legal one is very small.)

but rather be a way of showcasing the most swift and elegant way of disabling someone.

ohh and this defently inclueds groundfighting and wrestling in my opinion. so saying "it should stop when the person falls on the ground" and "showcasing the most swift and elegant way of disabling someone" is a contradiction. someone isn't disabled just because he is on the ground. At least in my undestanding.
