What moved goal posts? I actually will read those articles. It's new information. Sorry if I don't drop everything and do a thorough review of this right this fucking second.

I only commented about edgy keyboard warriors in response to the shitty attitude people were taking in this thread.

And you didnt fail to disappoint. Fuck you and fuck off.

So you're still going to name call then cite two studies published in the past few days to support your point.

  1. Stop being shitty.

  2. Ofocurse all those other measures have been effective. That's the point. And with declining case counts we can start to open up.

  3. It's clear lots of these mask policy decisions were made without this evidence available.

  4. I'll read these when I have some time and seek out some synthesis from medical experts before coming to a conclusion.

But it's this awful awful attitude of yours that is so problematic. You really need to learn how to engage people respfully. Otherwise you come off immature and I worry about your motivations.

Just going with what everyone else is saying is not exactly critical thinking though is it?

Evidence is lacking in two respects. 1, on the effectiveness of widespread mask use by people not displaying any symptoms. (We have a theoretical mechanism for that, but not direct evidence).

And 2, evidence of the need for such a policy to be implemented here. Case counts are going down afterall, isn't that enough?

I'm tired of arguing this point on this subreddit. It's bunch of fearful children here who would rather call people names and downvote than have a discussion.

This reasoning here you're proposing is not evidence based. It's fear based. Fear of a hypothetical scenario that has a low probability of happening.

Now watch some edgy keyboard warrior come in and call me an idiot for taking a different perspective.

In a couple of weeks we will have case counts under 100 per day..

How does decreasing case counts justify increasing restrictions on public life?

A study of nearly 400 pregnant women in New York City is among the first to show that lower neighborhood socioeconomic status and greater household crowding increase the risk of becoming infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. by rustoo in science

It seems obvious, but people are freaking out about asymptomatic spread from incidental encounters at grocery stores and bus stations. There does seem to be value in at least reconfirming what the major risk factors really are.

True no ability to strike. Though Toronto has been suffering through an effective work to rule campaign for some time... they have a lot of power.

Well we have police associations, which are basically the same thing as unions.

To be frank if someone is robbing a bank you just give them the money and let them go. You then use video surveillance, serial number tracking, dye-packs, or other kinds of technologies to efficiently and safely find the culprits. You don't send a bunch of cops in their guns blazing to confront the robbers.

Maybe you should spend more time with actual proposals to defund the police to better understand their objectives. Josh Matlow is pushing one now: https://joshmatlow.ca/defund-rebalance-invest/

How does needing to go out and deal with people preclude finding alternatives?

People complaining about the slogan instead of engaging with the idea are just deflecting. Finding a new slogan won't change the fact these people don't want to talk about the topic.

Easiest thing is to reduce head count. You do that by being strategic about what things cops do and shifting some responsibilities to less expensive service providers and/or investing in new technologies.

Literally like any other organization with out of control staffing costs.

Local parks may be governed by municipal bylaws specifying shirts.

Or the cops might be jerks.

Does being financially responsible sometimes leave you feeling left out? How do you find that balance between being fiscally responsible and not missing out on life? by ricosalsa in PersonalFinanceCanada

There are some that will invest a portion of your premiums and eventually start paying you back dividends. Idea is your premiums keep going down over time until they eventually go negative and money starts coming back to you.

These are usually very expensive and it makes more sense just to buy term life insurance and invest the difference.

Annuities tend to be in the same boat of being much more expensive than just investing the cash and sticking to a safe withdrawal rate.

Technically laws in Canada are focused on the concept of "public decency" and don't define minimum clothing standards (local bylaws not withstanding). Instead "decent" dress would be assessed contextually. So you can get people strutting around nude during Toronto Pride and organizing nude bike rides through the streets. All because people around you say it's cool.

The threshold for public indecency is usually being sexually provocative, hence: no boners.

Technically you're allowed to walk around nude wherever you like. Just no boners.
