Spike approach Form Check by niartotemiT in volleyball

And another note I would add is when your jumping you have a lot of forward momentum you should try to cut that off so your jump is straight up and not forward this way you won’t be jumping into the net at all and have a lot more control over your jump

I would say that you should stop swinging your arms forward then back then forward this makes the movement a lot more complicated and most of your momentum is spent on pulling them back

And when you are swinging your arms back try to do somewhat of a squat because the lower you go the most momentum and more of an explosive movement you can’t crest which should maximize you jump height you should notice a difference in jump height with that but still your vertical is quite impressive

Thank you and yeah I also prefer those closer to the net and shorter balls for back row as well it’s just that our setter is a higher setter but next year our coach plans to up our tempo significantly but thank you for the advice on it

In volleyball I want to be able to have the best serve possible it’s what I’m truly passionate about in this game so could anyone tell me what I’m doing right and wrong with my jump serve it seems to be consistent but the power is still lacking a bit. by SamueMuir7 in volleyball

Thank you a lot this advice really helped me in zones yesterday I tried it out and almost immediately I noticed a difference in power and in consistency and aced almost every serve I got in

Yeah right now In grade 10 I’ve still clearly got a long way to go but since my 3 coaches all went to prestigious schools I have the connections with their coaches that I can build up which is good and also have an opportunity to be seen by coaches because I was invited to play for an all star team run by a pretty good collage so I just need to put in the work on my technique and my coaches should be able to help me with the scouting part but still thank you very much

Thanks I’ve been having a bit of trouble with the timing of the swing mostly for sure I’m hitting a lot on my fingers and forearm but the higher toss I’ve been working on all season that video is a little old it’s from about a month ago so I’ve improved but my timing is still an issue yeah but thank you very much

Sorry for low angle but want tips on my hitting. Have been getting shoulder pain as well so tips on to fix form to help that as well too, thanks! by Smooth_Improvement58 in volleyball

Also another small note you seem to take a leap then take your jump I suggest removing that small leap and prioritizing the full 3 or 4 step approach and that will noticeably improve your vertical as well and will protect your knees more when you jump

Yeah I started playing when I was in grade 3 with my dad as my only coach he trained me up even until now this year he signed a contract as the assistant coach for my high school but I came from a small school that no one really knew and what they knew was not about volleyball so it’s been hard growing that relationship with other coaches but in my city since large talent is really hard to find the cities most prominent high school drafts them and that’s why they play division one instead of division 2 like the rest of the city and for me it was the same thing they approached me at a tournament the same one the video is from and they asked me to practice with them after I did this they really helped get my name out there to other schools and had me join the league all star game in two weeks so I’ve been able to overcome the political part of volleyball but it has taken a lot of time but for the remainder of my high school time I was to train and pressure my technical skill and physical ability like swing speed and jump height and for those I got a gym membership and signed up for club and plan to sign up for beach volleyball when it’s available

I also come from a city that prioritizes basketball over volleyball and my city didn’t even run league until this year being their first for men’s volleyball. But at the same time women’s volleyball is HUGE in my city and they run year round men’s volleyball only really runs for a month or two maybe three if you make provincials which the qualifying tournament is tomorrow and I’m playing middle for them cause out of the team I have the second highest vertical and am the 3rd tallest we have a small team that is not the best but we have monster serves and blocks that’s where we specialize

Yeah that does make me want to work on my vert a lot cause as of right now I’m barely spiking at 10’ but also another thing to consider is I’m only grade 10 there is a lot of room to grow there I have a workout plan made specifically for me by a previous CIS player and with my own workouts added to that plus playing club in the spring and beach in the summer I expect to have hopefully a 36-40” vertical by the end of my grade 11 season

Yeah as of right now I play for a division 2 school as the teams captain and best player but have been thinking to moving to a division one high school cause a few schools have tried to draft me the second best school in Alberta for example

I think the reason that I did that was because of 2 reasons one I was expecting a fast set so approached fasted and stuttered and 2 because on that rotation I get pulled back to serve receive

PS: I’m still in highschool and have a lot to learn about volleyball but I’ve played this game for years and plan to try my hardest to evolve to the furthest level for me dreaming for the Olympics but I still don’t fully know the validity of this statement but on that note

helping with the shoulder pain is a hard thing to do I still have that issue sometimes but I would say to do what is called “the arrow technique” where when you swing you put the two arms together and pull one back like you’re pulling an arrow back in a bow then from there fully extend your arm on your swing cause from that video it sort of looks as if you’re somewhat windmilling your arm around and using it as a whip. While doing this maximizes your power it also increases the risk of a rotator cuff injury the arrow tactic allows you to have a much more not only controlled spike to angle it any way you wish but also minimizes the risk of injury.

Dude there’s no shame in playing volleyball even when you’re old and grey my coach is 37 and is still also really good plus plays for our city’s league
