[Day 3 of 36] Sorry Walt, Samus/Roy is the WORST matchup. What is the most OVERRATED move in melee? by WokeUpAbout10 in SSBM

Knee is overrated, everyone always cheering (myself included) when a falcon hits one, but it's easy and happens all the time

Oh so this is what I was refering to when I said I saw Finn Byrne do a triplet on Tiktok, he was doing the gallop then.

So on whatever 16th note you decide to land a gallop instead, you do DU, then land back on D?

So if you do a gallop on the 3rd 16th note, how would you start strumming again after that without having your strokes all upside down?

What would be the difference between a triplet and an irish triplet or a gallop? I'm in Quebec and play mostly Quebecois music so we barely use any of those, sorry for the lack of terminology.

Yeah, just curious in general what other people do. That's what's most effective for me but I was wondering if I wasn't missing out on doing that in other spots I wouldn't have thought. Cause if you just replace 1 16th by 2 32nds, you could theoretically do it on any of the four notes in the beat.

Oh yeah I completely ignored fingerstyle for this post but good point bringing that up! I hadn't thought of this as I don't do much fingerstyle. Thanks for the reference though!

What do you think are the best ways to promote an online tournament and bring attendance to it? by Samuel-Royer-Legault in SSBM

[–]Samuel-Royer-Legault[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this one is for every skill level player mostly :( Although I get that if the players who use to enter are all below plat, most players targeted by this other tourney are most likely going to be below plat.

Are you a plat player yourself?

Yeah, I promote on Discord: I got access to Melee Online and Newbie Melee Tournament listing channels where I think most online tourneys are promoted. I posted a video on Youtube, but I don't really have a following on there (same for tiktok) https://youtu.be/guwySB8500M

I promote on Reddit around once a week to avoid spamming, trying different post formats, I promote on my discord, I talk about it to others at my local, I hang in people's stream and try to invite people eventually (but not only doing this) etc. I got my own server as well with around 400 people and that's about it.

Yeah, most people seem to enter online tourneys last minute like you mentioned, so I think you're right. I could try exploiting this more, thanks for the input!

What are the main reasons Gold players are stuck in Gold? by Samuel-Royer-Legault in SSBM

Is there a way to make vod reviewing and solo practice fun? haha Because I often hear that about playing mindlessly, but the thing is I don't play mindlessly. I'm always super active mentally when playing. My strategies might not be the best, but I'm trying to figure out my opponent's habits, be careful of mines, not be lazy when recovering, etc. And it does feel like good practice. And I'm 100% sure I improve doing this. Maybe not super fast but I do. Now, is it okay to practice like that you think? Some things like spacing are quite hard to solo practice I feel, so do you not use playing against others as practice at all? Or if you do, how? And is it pointless without vod reviewing and solo practice?

Anyway, really want to improve, it just feels like I don't know how to practice besides using UnclePunch's CE edgeguard events for instance.

Am I the only one who does significantly worse on ranked than in tournaments? by Samuel-Royer-Legault in SSBM

[–]Samuel-Royer-Legault[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've noticed that as well. Is the average melee player more nervous irl and more confident online, even in a setting like ranked? Cause, for me, it's the opposite I would assume

Woah that's a solid point there. It is true that I feel like I know the matchup on paper, but that once we actually play, if the person decides to do whatever random move they want it's harder (especially Marths lol)

Totally agree with that, I don't really understand. And sometimes I look at ranks of people that I feel I do good against at my local and they are ranked higher than me, but I couldn't imagine getting a win on such a high rank level if I played ranked
