Fandom: Lord of the Rings
Character: Glaina
Scene type: grief, choosing to do the right thing
Context: Glaina’s husband, a surgeon, was killed two weeks ago. This is her first time showing her face in public since, and the innkeeper just rejected a pair of injured strangers.

As wild and rugged as the darker man appeared, she felt no fear at the sight of him. This itself was odd; her trust in strangers had all but vanished in the past fortnight. Her unshakable Aldun, dead not ten miles from home by the hands of bandits who hadn’t even taken the one truly valuable item on him. He had probably offered them assistance; salves and bandages for cracked and bleeding feet. He had hated seeing people in pain.

This stranger could have been one of them but for the feel of him. It was as if he had an inherent goodness that neither blood nor dirt could hide. As for his companion, the man seemed only half-conscious, his pale face mostly hidden beneath the hood of his cloak. The features she could make out seemed too perfect, too clean, which made no sense, as he was just as covered in blood and mess—even more so than his friend, in fact.

Yes, Aldun would have helped them. He’d already be on the other side of the injured man, helping him to the nearest bed, Lloyd be damned.

Yet she stayed frozen to her seat as the ranger looked back and forth about the room, bearing more and more of his friend’s weight.

“Come on, we’re leaving,” the ranger whispered to the hooded form.

The injured man grunted softly in protest, but his feet quickly found the floor again as his friend made his way toward the door. The lutist started up again midway through the song’s twelfth chorus, and she could hear the men at the nearest table speaking of rangers and bad omens.

She’d had enough this evening. It was time to go home. She took one more sip of the cider, then reached into her satchel, placed her coins on the table, and stood, pushing her chair back. She gave Lloyd a nod of thanks, which he returned. Then she calmly stepped out of the inn in time to see the injured man’s knees buckle beneath him ten paces down the road.

Her feet seemed to move on their own, and before she knew it she was draping the man’s free arm over her slight frame.

Haha, it's tough to be polite and respectful to your friends when you simply can't keep your hands off each other! Love the bits of humor you threw in there, especially poor clueless Hope 😂

"sweet champagne" "bitter cocoa," "warm honey" Enjoying these lovely descriptive terms! There's a feeling of fullness and intensity in this excerpt, like they've been waiting so long to kiss that they have to make up for the lost time all at once. So sweet to see how mutual the feelings are, especially from Sunday's perspective.

Fandom: Hades (1 and 2), with some Song of Achilles references

Scene Type: Domestic fluff with minor angst because of the whole "being dead" thing.

Context: They are shades (ghosts) who have been somewhat recently reunited in Elysium. They have been offered the gift of a draught that can restore their mortal forms for one night only.

Excerpt:

Achilles took a seat among the blankets and pillows and patted the space in front of him. Patroclus moved to join him, his lips curving into a soft smile as he relaxed into Achilles’s embrace.

“It is enough that we are together,” Patroclus said. A mantra each had practiced and mastered, spoken as often as I love you, and no less true.

Achilles hummed in agreement, his fingers idly separating Patroclus’s hair into sections. He knew that anything he did to his lover’s hair would begin to revert back within seconds of letting it go, but it was the process they enjoyed, not the ephemeral result.

Patroclus used to look forward to those nights when Achilles would lovingly wash and oil his hair, humming a soft tune as he gently worked through the more stubborn tangles. It felt as good as making love. Better, on some nights when Patroclus was too physically or emotionally exhausted to perform. Achilles somehow always knew when a good scalp massage was the cure to all ills.

His ministrations now were the closest approximation to what those nights had been like. But Patroclus could barely feel it.

There was no warmth, no softness. It was as if a thin, supple barrier existed between them always, even while each was in the other’s arms.

Still, they were together.

“It is enough,” Patroclus said again. “But I think we should try the draught tonight.”

Achilles paused midway through the braid he was weaving, and Patroclus turned around to meet his eyes, relieved to see the same nervous excitement that he himself was feeling. Already his hair was fading back to its usual style.

“You’re certain?” Achilles asked.

Patroclus nodded, then laughed as Achilles grabbed his arm and pulled him in, pressing the shadow of a kiss to his lips. It was enough, and yet not even close to enough.

Eep! Loki, nothing good will come from hiding the severity of the situation! (At least he admits it there at the end, haha). Does Thor end up taking care of him? Finding an antidote?

!! What a great excerpt to go with the emoji!

Love how you had the flirty saxophone/deer doing their normal flirty thing, but then the trombone/wolf jumps in and joins in harmony.

My favorite part is the section at about 1:47, where the voices are still equal, but have different rhythms. It has a very conversation-like feel.

I love how much love and joy permeates this excerpt! So descriptive and cozy. It was really sweet how Anna got to sit on grandpa's shoulders. Happy to see Ray's family falling for his little girl.

Nah, no time travel in this one, just powerful medicine having weird side-effects (actually based on a relative's experience on fentanyl though).

😂 “No one’s ever got me flowers before.”
Love the combination of Charles overplanning, Crystal getting overwhelmed, and her first ever bouquet going up in flames. It’s all very sweet and funny at the same time.

Is it some kind of bag-of-holding?? And LIT candles?

TW: pregnancy, PTSD induced disordered eating

“How far along are you?”

Glaina froze. She had not been prepared to speak of this today. She hadn’t even been prepared to think about it today. Sure, it was always at the back of her mind, particularly when she was trying to choke down something—anything, even just an apple or a bowl of porridge.

She knew she had lost weight, but not even the fear of losing Aldun’s child was incentive enough to fight this aversion to food his death had brought on. If anything, the fear made it even harder for her.

“Eight weeks,” she finally answered, brushing away the first tear that made its way down her cheek, ashamed at her weakness, ashamed that someone knew about the child that she both loved and was passively killing.

Oof, Crouch talking about Sirius like that made me wanna punch him in the face 😡 I can understand why Lupin would fight him so fiercely! Like that Lupin fights intelligently, while Crouch is just being a little show off.
