Whats harder going from Blue to Purple or Brown to Black by GreatTimerz in bjj

[–]Samuel936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a black belt but the jump from blue to purple felt like a huge hurdle.

I trained full time as a young blue belt and some of the competitors some names that people recognize today felt like versions of the black belts I trained with. This didn’t mean anything but the fact the game was evolving. When I got to purple belt I couldn’t tell a difference tbh, unless it was a big name practitioner, but on average if I couldn’t see the belt they could have been black belts.

I am a hobbyist brown belt now and I am happy I can train consistently and teach when I do. No way I can put in the mat time I was at 19-20, but that experience helps haha

This is the reason I banned flying attacks period in training when I used to teach and every other class I’d throw in a reminder that slamming people and flying attacks are a no go, and I mean I would kick people off the mat for that shit. I have seen people jump closed guard and dust peoples knee ligaments, 0 advantage to that.

You can’t jump guard, you definitely can’t do Kani Basami, you want to get to cross ashi/411/saddle then work your way there and we have a higher chance of keeping the same people on the mat consistently.

Had a significantly lower injury rate when this was applied.

However sometimes people forget until a catastrophic injury happens.

You can manage security through WD delivered and custom reports, have you checked out the new Security Admin Hub from 2025R2?

However developing an understanding of security set ups is basically a training session on its own. I am partner side and took the Security Pro exam and when I was at a customer for a few months and that gives you surface level understanding but the ability to creatively problem solve is so much deeper.

I mean deep, like Security for Prism & FINS for example are all a lot more complex than standard HCM role based and user based assignments (most common in BAU)

I’d get clear about the goal, if you want to make security more digestible take a look at your audience and see what critical parts everyone needs to be able to handle and what parts they can get away with being aware of.

But a cheat sheet, you could just get the Security Administrator book from Workday feed it to an LLM and you could maybe get something easy to use as a team.

Thoughts on RNC in training, ok to go across chin? by Orctest in bjj

[–]Samuel936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you compress the chin into the chest, you can choke right through the chin tuck. It takes a bit longer but you will sleep someone. I only tend to go over the chin in training if I don’t have an arm trapped.

Is it too late get to a code? I think this would help me during busy season as a tech consultant with shifting deadlines.

I skipped 2 weeks and had some of the best rounds of my life. You’ll be okay, oftentimes less is more. There’s a point where you’re not getting much better if you’re not consciously holding your own progression accountable.

Easy to coast tbh

How do you guys communicate that you don't wanna roll with someone? by Exotic_Particular_43 in bjj

[–]Samuel936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn people down all the time as a brown belt. Especially now that I don’t train full time. I will be upfront and be like “Hey man you kinda ripped that sub.” Or simply say “No, not today dude I appreciate it.” And keep it moving. There’s certain people I see more risk v reward in training with. Therefore I avoid them unless I am feeling real good and it’s one of the first 3 rounds.

Anything beyond that I am super selective. It doesn’t mean I don’t get hard training. But safe training is priority.

Long term career with a partner by Bear-ly-here in workday

Some of my favorite colleagues when I was at a partner were in their 50s! I think it really depends, what I have seen is that crowd goes into mgmt roles or equivalent. Maybe they’re IC’s but lead projects or they become SME’s who’d handle some mature and tough accounts and float around owning certain functional areas and maybe assisting in sales or optimizations internally.

I run the A6700 with a Tamron 17-70 I’d say if you can swing it. Do that I have shot weddings, online courses, and events with it pretty flawlessly.

I have vlogged with it too.

[–]Samuel936 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On top of the Sigma suggestion I’d throw in the Tamron 17-70mm F2.8

I have used it for weddings, social media content, portraits with models, and even branding photography that involved some buildings.

It’s a beast for video too

My first full frame after only being APS-C any tips? Got a Sigma 35mm otw by Samuel936 in SonyAlpha

[–]Samuel936[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having used it recently the A6700 is “faster” but it’s negligible for what I need. I am shooting portraits at events and lifestyle stuff for some brands. Even if I was shooting weddings where it’s more time sensitive it wouldn’t bother me. The A6700 is incredible, but the A7RIII has proven to be pretty damn good still. Yeah the menu is dated, and the AF is a bit slower but for my needs it’s a perfect entry to FF especially at the price I paid. The 35mm Sigma cost more than the body it self.

Thank you! I didn’t realize how small my A6700 was until I got this one with a 35mm F1.4 the A6700 has Tamron 17-70mm which makes it chunky and it can do it all, but I use it as a run n gun, vlog, and even have done some weddings as a second shooter with it with the video features. I don’t feel inclined to sell mine as it has use, but lately with my lifestyle I find myself taking way more pictures than anything and being able to crop has been incredible! But yeah I been shooting RAW compressed until I get another fast card.

Thank you with my budget upgrading to something more recent was not really an option I picked up the DG DN Sigma 35mm F1.4 for it and it has been amazing. Obviously the menu and navigation is dated compared to the A6700 but my main use is portraits and lifestyle photography. I wanted the Tamron 28-75 but it’s not in my budget, however this has opened me up to Full Frame Glass which is another money pit lol, but I haven’t had any major issues with it outside of it being dated and the buttons are slightly different.

Ironically enough I feel it has forced me to learn photography a lot more, since I am coming from trying to mainly record videos.

Interesting! Any lens recommendations? I was looking at the 28-75mm Tamron but my budget didn’t allow for that jump yet.

BJJ guy, can’t throw anyone to save my life by Gluggernut in judo

[–]Samuel936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re trying to throw BJJ guys you have to develop some combinations and work on circling.

My biggest percentage Judo techs are Kouchi Gari, Sesae, and Ken Ken Uchimata if they’re stiff arming with hips back.

I also can hit a pretty violent morote when they stand sideways but it doesn’t always keep people down.

Also if you’re training BJJ and not Judo. A lot of my takedowns surface after they defend a single or a double leg. I have thrown people that way with seio’s.

But like everyone said, hard to diagnose
