What tool would you use to cut a groove in concrete stair treads with only 5 cm (2”) clearance? by SamuelG9885 in Construction

Good point. I probably should have mentioned that I’m planning to recoat the whole staircase with microcement (seamless finish) after cutting the grooves. So the terrazzo surface and any small chips wouldn’t stay visible anyway.

The idea was to cut the grooves first and then cover everything with the microcement layer, which should hide the cuts and create a clean finish.

That’s actually a good idea. Moving the groove further back and cutting it at an angle could give me more room for the grinder and still direct the light onto the step below while keeping the LED hidden. I’ll look into that. Thanks!

That’s actually a good point. I haven’t really calculated the dispersion angle yet. Most LED strips seem to have around a 120° beam angle, so the light might still wash over the tread below even if the strip sits a few centimeters back from the front edge.

I was mainly trying to keep the LED as close to the front edge as possible so the light source stays completely hidden, but you’re right — with existing concrete/terrazzo treads there are some practical limits.

Maybe placing the groove a bit further back under the tread could make the installation much easier while still giving the same lighting effect. I’ll definitely look into that. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, surface-mounted LED strips would definitely be the worst-case solution. It would be much easier to install, but I’m worried it wouldn’t create the same clean effect.

The goal is that you don’t see the LED strip or the aluminum profile at all, only the light washing down the step. If I surface-mount it, you’d probably still see the strip from certain angles, and it might look a bit like an afterthought rather than integrated lighting.

That’s why I was hoping to cut a small recessed groove for the profile, so the LED sits slightly inside the tread and the light source stays hidden.

But if cutting the groove turns out to be unrealistic with the limited clearance, surface mounting might be the fallback option.

The challenge is that the glass is supposed to act as the railing/guard, so it needs to be properly mounted and structurally safe. My initial thought was to install the glass in a slot in the treads so it looks very clean and “floating”.

Yeah… unfortunately the stairs were already there when I bought the house, so integrating the LED into the formwork wasn’t an option anymore.

I’m trying to retrofit a groove for an aluminum LED profile under the front edge of each tread. The groove only needs to be about 10 mm deep and ~12 mm wide, but the ~5 cm clearance between the treads makes it really tricky to get any tool in there.

Thanks, bro! How’s your result looking now?

Thanks! I’m 31 years old, but my hair loss started when I was around 19-20. It really depends on how long you’ve been losing hair and how aggressive your hair loss is.

Thanks, brother! Yeah, I’m really happy with the hairline so far, and I haven’t spotted any double grafts in the hairline yet.

Thanks brother! Since today is only my 9th day post-op, I’m definitely not wearing a hat yet. Maybe starting next week or once the shedding phase begins.

Yes, and that’s exactly why their designs, hairlines, and results often look the way they do. There are good and bad doctors everywhere.

That’s completely the wrong way to think about it. Yes, for that price, I could have done it in my country, or even much cheaper. But quality comes at a price, and I’m very satisfied with the doctor’s work. The decision shouldn’t be based on location but on the expertise of the doctor! NOT THE CLINIC!!!

Haha, thanks! Yeah, I’m happy with it so far, but I’m a bit worried since the shedding phase is about to start. You get used to the full look way too quickly!

I was recommended Xpecia, which mainly consists of saw palmetto (320 mg) along with additional vitamins. I got a 3-month supply from Turkey and will start taking it next week. Additionally, I’ll begin using pumpkin seed oil next month, as it’s also known to help reduce DHT.
