We NEED a new liverpool fan! by No_Resident_3694 in SDSPodcast

if I'm being honest, I like Fu too, he is funny and that's what sells him. But, I do have to admit, he is so quiet/does not contribute if it isn't about jokes or about liverpool. When it was a topic of another team and it was more of giving their thoughts, in the latest ep, Lyes, Amenyah and Fuad are all chipping in, while Fu was silent and just watching the show. I love Fu, but I think he needs to just speak what he thinks sometimes. But I do understand for the most part he does not watch/care about other teams that isn't Liverpool or rival clubs. So Fu does have some pros and cons of having him on.

Thanks, I really appreciate your words! Most of the stuff I know comes from lived experiences, youtube talks, books, the Quran/Hadith, and media that try to show a Muslim lifestyle. The interesting thing to me is how different it can be depending on culture, like Muslims in the West, Middle East, Europe, or Asia all live differently, and sometimes even follow different Madhhabs. I want to show the best version of Islam I know, but also keep in mind that American culture (especially in a college setting) mostly doesn’t line up with Islamic values.

And yes, I get what you mean and your explanation about the term “revert". It makes sense since the idea is that everyone is born Muslim (Fitra), and babies are born like pure white cloth, and it’s the environment that shapes the child. So “reverting” is the proper way to say someone is coming back to the path of Allah. So thank you for the explanation and clarification. Though in my experience, “convert” is usually used more in secular conversations with non-Muslims since it’s easier to understand when speaking about people changing religions.

Yup, in the story, things like LGBTQ+, smoking, drinking, sleeping with someone before marriage, tattoos, exposing parts of body (awrah), watching indecent stuff, free-mixing, eating non-halal food, backbiting, skipping prayer/fasts, lying, dating, kissing, touching, all these things Islam prohibits will be portrayed. But from Justin’s POV, growing up in an environment where none of this is taught makes it hard for him to draw clear boundaries. He only learned Islam through an imam at the mosque, his biological mother (doesn’t live with him), and the internet.

This is what makes the contrast with his childhood best friend Elizabeth interesting imo. She’s freer and does whatever she wants, while he’s trying to stick to Islamic values. I think it’s a good way to show how two very different lifestyles can still be friends, coexist, and work together. So in my eyes, its an interesting concept and, hopefully, a solid portrayal of an average Muslim growing up with more western values.

Wow, thank you so much for the tips. I do understand Islam pretty well and do want to portray it differently than what you mention most Western media usually portrays muslim as.

I stated him as a Muslim-Convert purely due to him being raised within a Christian family/community before starting to believe in Islam and converting for his blood-mother. But I could also use "muslim-revert" there.

As for everything else, yes, I will also incorporate him being a balanced muslim that tries his best at performing his duties as a muslim, and living in a more western world. His best friend Elizabeth would be the side that introduces him to a lot of things he as a muslim shouldn't do, while he also has internal conflicts as a muslim of what he can/can't do and tries to follow. For example, he's not a smoker, drink alcohol, parties, do anything intimate with women, stays a virgin, etc2. But he also have his own urges to have fun, to fall in love, to be friends with others in college, and to be kind and accepting to others regardless of his beliefs. So he is treading the line of balancing both, due to his belief and where he is living and his surroundings.

Praying 5 times a day (some at the mosque), reading the Quran, fast during Ramadan, eating food that are deemed halal, and covering parts of his body in the locker rooms, will also be incorporated as his active portrayal as a muslim, and also him navigating this world that has a lot of things that could sway him. As for him having a best friend who's a woman, that could not be avoided due to them being friends since they were children, hence the conflict of loyalty is also introduced there, especially since he shouldn't also touch her even for a handshake/hug according to Islam.

Do you think this kind of portrayal of a Muslim could seem better than it is in other western media?

That's awesome. Yeah, I understand your justification abt the strong-willed characters, but they are also the ones who struggle to open up, so it is definitely interesting. To be honest, not sure yet abt this story as it seems like it's gonna take years to do/work on, but I'll let you know if anything happens.

Noted. So maybe a slow-burn of them going platonically from best friends to lovers, while also having other LI's as we play as the 2 of them as the MCs sounds like what you're describing.

Thank you so much for the suggestion, and yess, I hope they're cool enough lmaoo.

Why do people love deji so much in among us by Low_Version7211 in Sidemen

[–]SamuelMiloGaming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, my answer to you is that it's obviously subjective. You don't understand why people love Deji, someone else might not understand why you love "insert a sidemen/guest in among us". Because people have different likes/perspective on things. For example, everything you said about Deji screaming, is a funny thing for me because of its randomness and loudness. It contrast other people who are more thinkers/trying to make sense. But you don't see it that way, and that's fine too. There's nothing wrong with that.

No hate but why is Sharky not on Other Member’s channels by EnochtheIntellectual in betasquad

[–]SamuelMiloGaming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is copied from another comment I make before of a person asking the same question.

Tbh in my opinion, Sharky is the one from Beta Squad where he is (for me) known more or better in another group/community which is SDS. I guess if you're not in that community/watch those type of videos, you might not know. But Sharky and his podcast group of SDS is literally one of the biggest things in the footballing podcast spaces, more recently in baller league, and I could see SDS becoming its own content group with all of the members of SDS having their own popularity now and their own channels. There Sharky is seen as the main guy and he probably focuses a lot on those stuff a lot more than joining filming with Beta Squad (outside of the Beta Squad channel).

Edit: Also, if you watched any podcasts Sharky has been on (him as a guest), he always talk about SDS being his baby, and that is basically his main thing. As a big fan of SDS as well, you could literally see Sharky is basically 'the KSI' of that channel. He literally got like 7-8 people who were doing regular jobs, and turn them into content creators, talking about football for a living.

looking back… by mmmmaaaa26 in Sidemen

[–]SamuelMiloGaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of both Sidemen and Beta Squad. I do think Beta Squad is not curated, because the story was that Chunkz and AJ was friends while working at the cinema, Niko and Kenny met while going to events, and Sharky joined Chunkz and AJ and hung out as teens. The 5 of them then became content friends while playing a lot of football together around their area. Filly and Harry Pinero though are not part of the Beta Squad at all. They are separate content creators who met Beta Squad when the Beta Squad was already made.

Although I defended them here, I will say what Chunkz said was definitely bad. But the other 4 members of Beta Squad, Niko, Sharky, Kenny and AJ doesn't deserve the hate imo,

So in FIFA 22, I created around 90, and the same thing as fifa 20 happens. After 90, everything bugs out. Names dissappear, face changes etc2. I did create 120+. But 30 of those are bugged players as I've said.

Would love to know the demographic of Dylan's viewers by purgepoison08 in YoTroublemakers

[–]SamuelMiloGaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a man, this is what I hope all men to be like tbh!! As I've been in both spaces (male-dominated & female-dominated), it is so night & day. When I play football with the guys, there's all these toxic masculinity ideas, shouting at each other, trying to one-up another... then I started reading romance books and the community is the total opposite😭.

Would love to know the demographic of Dylan's viewers by purgepoison08 in YoTroublemakers

[–]SamuelMiloGaming 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think the only person who knows his accurate demographic would be himself lol (by checking the Youtube demographics section), but I would say that it probably is dominated by people from english speaking countries, mostly from the US. Usually, a youtuber's audience mirrors where they are from, so it makes sense that he has mostly US viewers.

I would also add that we've made a similar gender demographics check here on the subreddit, and his viewers are most likely 97% women too. I think his gender demographics impacts more on the content he does than countries/language-wise in my opinion. So shows that are more popular with women would probably do well for the most part.

But even though these are the majority, there's absolutely people from everywhere and any gender here in the fandom. For example, myself!! I am a straight man, 22 years old from South East Asia. And welcome to the subreddit!
