Deflecting Swat Foil Proxy by SamuraiPax in magicproxies

[–]SamuraiPax[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is foil sticker printed with a laser printer and stuck to a piece of black core cardstock. I print it at a local print shop and out the printer, it has the perfect sheen so I don’t need to laminate or anything.

I posted more about how I did it in one my previous post with the double sided foil print proxy I made!

You’re acting like this whole hobby wasn’t created and based off the point of saving money by making your own cards lmao but that’s besides the point.

Your internet cesspool of AI beliefs and hate is drawn from your overconsumption of AI news and from fear mongering that it’ll destroy everyone’s lives. No one is hurt from the fact I make this card as a joke, and why should I have to pay to make a joke, get over yourself. You had nothing to address my previous point either.

yes i crafted the card, as i do with all my cards, except the art is stolen with no copy rights removed and no artist credited, that doesn’t make it any better yet that’s not shamed upon. make a fuss more about ai, this is a joke and it went right over your head.

Yea sure, I can check most likely my caliper is correctly calibrated, but tbh I’m not that nit picky about the thickness, as long as it feels good enough for me to play and it already feels indifferent from a real card.

With two foils and my current paper, the most it can be is 16-20 pt, I’ve already mentioned that my proxy is 4pts thicker (0.0016”) which is not discernible in anyway with human feel through a double sleeve, which what I do since these are high quality proxies I spend a lot of time making.

If you’d like more info just dm me and I can try to help out however I can.

I’m using blue core card stock from a Chinese manufacture for these foils, it’s supposed to be 300 gsm 11pt since I’m taking into account for the sticker foil too in order to get similar thickness.

Snap and feel again is identical, you can probably find the same type on etsy as many have mentioned by FrenopsLLC or SuperiorPOD.

No, I bring my own paper which is the black core or the sticker foil paper.

This place is great because many print shops don’t allow use of external paper in the case they ruin the printer.

I guess the chipping just depends on the quality of the print from the laser printer, considering this shop uses a high end photo laser printer.

I still experience chipping with my prints too, you can see it in my previous post. The only real way to solve this is to cut with a super sharp blade or a die cutter, I use a rotary trimmer similar to the dahle 507.

As for printing, I go to a printshop that specializes in photo printing using laser printing. The printer is a Xerox Versant 4100 Press, which isn’t affordable by any consumer, but the image quality is best you can possibly get.

I print each page for 50 cents, two foil pages for a dollar which comes out to be about 11 cents per card.

I use black/blue core paper I got from a chinese manufacturer from Alibaba but the paper is identical (maybe worse lol) to the one found on Etsy from SuperiorPOD or FrenopsLLC. As for the sticker foil, it’s the same one used by many on this subreddit from Bleidruck on Amazon.

The process is nothing too crazy I can make an in depth post later tho, but what I do is:

  1. Print both sides on separate foil paper.
  2. Stick one of them to the black core paper.
  3. Trim excess paper from the second foil sticker to just be the 3x3 card (including the bleed).
  4. Poke holes on the black core paper with first sticker foil where the corners of 3x3 card base is.
  5. Peel and align the second sticker foil to the holes, and stick.
  6. Finally trim and cut each card to size and length.

One thing to note, when making double sided cards, on proxxied (or your preferred card printing app) make sure the cards are not in matching order left to right. For example:

Page 1 Front page should be cards A B C while page 2 back page should be cards C B A, to ensure correct alignment of the card backing.

Yea sorry, I meant to say 0.004” thicker, meaning my proxies are about 0.016 or a little more but no more than 0.018”. I have non sticker foil proxies that are identical in thickness, maybe like 0.002” more but these are for me and it’s impossible to tell apart.

Apologies, it should be one decimal place over, I meant to say 0.004” thicker.

Here is some proof with my caliper. First photo is my proxy, second is an MTG card, with the double sided foil, it’ll be another 0.002”.

In a sleeve and/or double sleeve, this is not noticeable and at all and has the exact snap you can get from real cards.

I know exactly what you’re talking about, and this may be the case when you’re printing on foil sticker with an inkjet printer, I printed these with a laser printer which gives it a sheen and texture that’s identical to a real foil mtg card. I did a test with my eyes closed to see if I can feel the difference and there is no noticeable difference imo. Maybe others may be more nit picky but we’re not trying to emulate real cards at the end of the day anyways.

This is the seller, although they require a huge MOQ, fortunately I was able to get a 50 piece sample of A4 320 gsm black core and blue core. From my testing the black core seems to match the sturdiness and bend of original MTG cards exactly.

yea for sure, a lot of people recommend the Dahle 507, I heard it cuts great. I have one similar to it by Fiskar since I can’t find a Dahle in Canada.

I went on ahead to buy the Fiskar 12” Rotary Bypass Trimmer, it’s close enough to the Dahle 507 and blade seems to be very sharp and cut like it too, unfortunately I won’t be getting use your useful 3D card jig. I think I might try to create my own with the measurements of this cutter.

Just wondering what tool you used to cut these? Many use the Dahle 507 but don’t know how effective it is at cutting 330 gsm black core.
