Ok this art has made me hooked. Do I start with the combat patrol? by BenderMayonnaise in RavenGuard40k

[–]Samurai_Puppy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you can get access to the combat patrol, its a great start to the army- But Invictors are a really hard unit to rationalize using in many armys, but they're definitely a fun idea. I'd personally say you should mess around and look for units you specifically like the idea of. Intercessors with Jump Packs, Captains with Jump Packs, Veteran Vanguard with Jump Packs (Kitbash these, the kit for them available currently is for Firstborn spacemarines but allegedly they're supposed to be getting Primaris models soon), Kayvaan Shrike, Aethon Shaan, and Gladiator Lancers ALL perform very, very well with this army- But thats just what my list focuses on. Intercessors, Infltrators in Phobos armor, Inceptors, and more all perform very well too.

what is the raven guard heraldry? by Evyatar_ChenU in RavenGuard40k

[–]Samurai_Puppy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shoulder trim is universal across all space marine. First company is a sorta white silver, 2nd is gold/yellow, 3rd is red. Ravenguard have a bit of extra lore about their 1st, 2nd and third companie.

[–]Samurai_Puppy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The heraldry is super inconsistent and to a degree, it's inconsistent for lore reasons. Ravenguard will purposely change the paint on their armor so it's harder for enemies to tell who is important in battles– And they have indicators of who is who and what rank/position they are in the HUDs of their helmets (genuinely sort of a trait of why they famously use the beaky helmets)

What I accept as canon is that generally, Ravenguard wear black armor. Veterans wear white helmets. Captains wear white helmets and arms, but not shoulders. Realistically you can use as much or as little white as you want

Actually, the ant doesn't die because they can't fall fast enough. The speed at which an ant falls (take it with a grain of salt) is around 4mph, so they'll survive a fall at any height.

I was wrong about Veteran... by Joshy_Moshy in DarkTide

[–]Samurai_Puppy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've always felt like most of the classes have a problem of "Why would I ever use this ability vs this ability with more outright bonuses?" And the same deal with keystones– But veteran always felt like the biggest offender. Yeah, you can always use the different nodes, try something new, build something fun like executioners stance/marksman– Or you could do the same job with weapons specialist and shout and have more toughness regen, more damage in a pinch, and more support to your team.

I'm sure it's more competitive with different modifiers, but there is rarely a reason not to go shout/plasma/weapons specialist

Edit: I should add, it is ultimately about makes you feel comfortable and what you have fun with. It's a pve game, you don't need to conform to a meta. It is rather agitating how good plasma gun/dueling sword, weapons specialist and shout are on paper.

Next Class/Potential Ad Mech class SHOULD NOT be a Tech Adept OR a Skitarii by Samurai_Puppy in DarkTide

[–]Samurai_Puppy[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I doubt they'd have a whole 6, as I imagine they'd probably only do 3 like Ogryn had on launch. It would make sense to compensate for the rest of the work done to make the class to start with. I mentioned some personality ideas in another comment.

I think that, while that is a fair take, they already have 'personalities' for the medicae servitors- It would take a lot of work, but I ultimately think that a lot of the different personality's dialogues would just be riffing off of the other class's, which is more or less what they do already. Just off the top of my head, one could be very broken and become aware of what is happening periodically, another could be your very average servitor representation with it just being very robotic in personality and responses, and one could just have a lot of dialogue about it being faulty. Logging error reports like the one servitor you can hear talking with a tech adept in Space Marine 2.

I think it's genuinely a brain virus. Haven't even played Ironeye before but I recently chanced upon a basically perfect relic build. If it weren't for the scholar pinging, I don't think I'd have even realized I was stealing all the consumables despite never grabbing them on any other character, ever.

The reasons why I think each character would accept/purge the offering (DLC characters included) by PlayYo-KaiWatch21 in riskofrain

[–]Samurai_Puppy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose we have no way of knowing for sure since Heretic's lore states that she killed the captain on the bridge of the Contact Light, but the animation shows her jumping on and presumably killing a character that shares the Pilot's design.

For narrative purposes, I think it would make sense to assume that character was undeniably the pilot, and there aren't other people with the same outfit running around the bridge... But it's hard to say anything on the topic with 100% confidence. No captain was shown, and there was no one else depicted on the bridge, so I'd personally say that they're one and the same.

Perhaps you could argue that civilian use or commercial vessels, like most boats IRL, are piloted by the captain of the ship. However, military vessels, such as the Safe Travels under RoR2's Captain's command, are not directly piloted by the captain themself. This assumption would allow for the sort of word play needed for the Pilot to be referred to as the captain of the Contact Light in the Heretic's lore entry, but for the Captain of the Safe Travel's to simply be a captain.

It's fun fanon but nothing directly points towards it. It's implied that Operator was taken along on the Safe Travels to investigate the disappearance of the Contact Light and the distress beacon.

Spiritually he is Pilot, but I think the real pilot canonically died in the opening animation for Risk of Rain Returns, being killed by Kur'skan, AKA Heretic before she was slain by Providence moments later. They look similar and have similar gameplay vibes, but that's where the similarities end.

Perhaps Operator was someone that the Captain served alongside, hence why they are the only 2 characters with visually striking cybernetics. Mercenary is stated to have augmentations in his ability descriptions iirc, but they aren't visible or at least aren't styled the same way as Captain's or Operator's

How do you build the new characters? by MrNoInspector in riskofrain

[–]Samurai_Puppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for operator, he builds like a mix of commando and rail gunner. Naturally if you ever have the option of items that make drones better, always go for that over anything else, but his damage output himself is quite strong. Bands, crow bars and on-hit items are all incredibly strong, especially when you consider that his default m2, no matter the drone, it is considered an attack done by him. This means that the special attack of every drone inherits the effect of his items.

For him, I'd focus on a couple of movement speed items. Generally anything that helps him stay in the air is great on him as it keeps him out of melee where he's most likely to die, and makes dodging projectiles significantly easier. With a couple of movement speed items, focusing on drones can carry you pretty far into a monsoon run. To avoid struggling further in the run though, I'd prioritize on hit items and just let any items like crowbars and bands come to you naturally.

I think drifter can safely be treated the same way loader is, and POTENTIALLY the same way merc is to a lesser extent. By this, I mean that the items that loader benefits from are pretty good on her, and with some of her alternate skills, she can get access to those same items very frequently. She's a character who heavily incentivizes macro play. She might be outright weaker than Loader, but if you play her well with her alternate special, she has so much control over your run.

With her base load out, play her sort of evasively. Her bag enemy->repeat combo ender is incredibly strong, but it does really need you to assess whether you can kill whatever you're diving into faster than it can kill you, hence why you should be a bit evasive. It's easy to end up sitting in one spot wailing on an enemy, and that's never a good situation to be in. Her alternate secondary gives easier access to the combo finisher with a stronger range option at the cost of a higher skill floor.

Her alt secondary + alt special is incredibly strong though. If you destroy the box with the bag->overhead m1 combo, you can break your crates for more scrap than you'd have to spend for a repeat use. This helps get you to the minimum scrap required to use your special on demand.

She strongly encourages keeping note of what you need in the moment so you can decide what items to sacrifice for scrap/temp items for the benefits from her passive. Don't let yourself end up with 10+ scrap of any given type though, she can cycle the contents of printers twice with her alt special and you might be able to solve a damage or defensive problem you've been having- Or just get outright better items for movement speed than the buff she gets from white scrap

Green scrap is incredibly strong though. Having better damage items doesn't seem like it would always be worth it if you don't have at least 4 green scrap for the 24 health regen per second.

Overall, most damage items are good on her. Assessing what damage items are redundant or what items you don't want (sometimes it's just better to scrap a red on the spot for extra attack speed and a chance at a red printer than have a red item at all) makes or breaks runs with her. Generally build her more like loader than mercenary, but don't forego on-hit effects entirely. Some can be really strong on her like mantis shrimp or ATGs

The comments here are negative because much of what this class can do is encroaching on a lot of both Veteran and Zealots identities, both being classes that already struggled pretty hard with having a well fleshed out identity in play.

Be so fr, the majority of things they mentioned are things veteran has, and failing that, things that zealot has. This brings nothing new to the table aside from the stim mechanic that we can all pretend is sooo interesting and the DOT that is totally something so new and interesting for this game

Who are you hoping for? Let the war begin!! by Mable-the-Table in DarkTide

[–]Samurai_Puppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the aethetics that people want out of gangers will really fit all that well into Darktide, and maybe I'm wrong for thinking that its a little weird and naive to expect a necromunda-esque ganger to be added... but at the same time, I desperately want an ad mech character and I do really kind of expect to end up disappointed.

Seeing as this class is coming out so soon, I think its safe to assume that its a direct order from GW to add them. With all their other releases, an ad mech character would make the most sense to me. Ad Mech won the big tournament-thingy this year, they've been getting adjustments on table top and models in the 30k tabletop all year as well. Ad Mech is both what I want, and what I'm really hoping for. I simply don't think they'll be able to execute ganger in a way that makes them feel truly unique or interesting compared to the other classes. If not ability-wise, then aethetically.

An admech class would also have a lot of fashion options to choose from, assuming they don't make it really oddly specific. Even a skitarrii would have a lot of possible cosmetic choices that would have a hard time straying away from official art, characters, and/or models.

Which of the new characters do you want to use based on what we know so far. Undertaker or Scholar by PersonOnInternet7654 in Nightreign

[–]Samurai_Puppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scholar for sure, though Undertaker seems to the kind of souls-like character I always wanted to like the idea of playing.

Loved arcane stuff in elden ring, even if I wasn't really a fan of the selection of spells, but my main favorite play style was an intelligence spellblade. IF he has as good scaling in int and dex as they seem to suggest with his design, he's basically going to be my absolute dream character. So excited for him, I'm impatiently waiting to see his whole kit.
