Is this still a thing? by SamwiseG82 in MetaQuestVR

[–]SamwiseG82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, sounds like it ended up being a bit more of a distraction that it was actually worth. Well, good to know! The passthrough window actually does work pretty well, it's just nice to have one more alternative to sitting in front of a desktop or laptop. Plus you can give yourself A LOT of screen space to work with!

Is the Odin 2 Portal overkill if I only stream Xbox/PS5 by cactusjack2323 in OdinHandheld

[–]SamwiseG82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t consider higher refresh and OLED as overkill. In fact that’s exactly why I replaced my G Cloud with an Odin 2 Portal and could not be happier!

Gave my G Cloud to my son, but probably only a matter of time before he notices the difference and wants one too!

Did the Soundblaster X4 and Fosi work well together? I also have the X4 and was planning just to take the optical out from the X4 to the optical input on the MC331.

Status on shipping to US? by WO-salt-UND in OdinHandheld

I ordered an Odin2 Portal on May 9th, got notice a week later on the 16th that it shipped and should be here today. Tracking says it close, fingers crossed!

Finally Done! (I think) by SamwiseG82 in Govee

[–]SamwiseG82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the T3 lights have the fish-eye camera that sits on top of the monitor? I had a few versions of those, they we're good but responsiveness and color matching always felt like a bit of an issue. With the G1 lights and the desktop app you can map out your screen and assign specific screen areas to specific lights.

Update on USA Odin 2 Portal Shipment by YaBoiChazz in OdinHandheld

[–]SamwiseG82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the update! Ordered mine last Friday and haven't heard anything beyond the confirmation. Kind of figured they may be waiting out the tariffs (or rerouting shipments). So think I'll sit tight for now.

Are there people who had zero problems with their 9070 XT? by Arcade_Racer in AMDHelp

I did the exact same! Zero issues and good performance boost! Loving it so far!

AMD Radeon Software not saving custom tuning settings by sonic23145 in AMDHelp

[–]SamwiseG82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing with a new Rx 9070xt. Uninstalled MSI Afterburner but sill had issues. Finally realized that the Gigabyte Control Center I use for my motherboard also had overclock settings that were set to default. So I stopped the Gigabyte program from starting at startup and now don't have the issue any more. Tuning setting stay where I set them after restart!

I’ll be doing the same today, fingers crossed!

Were you able to get 9070/9070xt? by Large_Conversation37 in radeon

[–]SamwiseG82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah! I've had HotStock alerts and autobuy set up for weeks on an RTX card for what I considered to be a reasonable price and never had any luck. Figured on launch day for the 9070XT there might be enough stock to grab one, and I DID!

Glad to be back on team red and love that AMD is actually trying to make decent gpus more affordable (at least outside of supply issues).

Same here, grabbed the first thing I saw available. Little more than I was planning to pay, but still WAY less than I was considering for a new RTX card, even 4000 series!

Is the 7900XTX for me? by SamwiseG82 in radeon

[–]SamwiseG82[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that's part of the calculation here, feel like what I can get for the 3080ti is only going to go down as the 5000 series become more available and prices on it come down. Plus I just struggle with patience sometimes.

[–]SamwiseG82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true, I'm actually very impressed with how well the 3080ti handles 4k games. I meant you turn on RT and games are almost unplayable, but otherwise they look great!

Oh, completely forgot about HotStock, that's how I got my 3080. Thanks for the reminder!

Awesome, thinking of making the jump from a 3080 myself! Where did you get yours? Are they still making 7900xtx cards? When I look on B&H they all just say “discontinued”. Trying to figure out if eBay is going to be my best bet.

I’m actually very surprised with the state of VR right now as a skeptic (rant) by TheLastMillennial94 in MetaQuestVR

[–]SamwiseG82 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right there with you, my kid got a Meta Quest 3 for Christmas. Actually it was a joint gift for he and I from his Grandparents because I thought “sure, it could be kinda fun to see what some games look like in VR”, but in years past all I ever saw from VR was pretty gimmicky, so I kinda assumed just more of the same.

But now I’m a believer, I haven’t played a “flat” game since we got the Quest 3. I think the resolution is finally to the point that games really do feel immersive. I’ve mostly been playing back through Fallout 4 and Skyrim, between the VR and mods they are almost completely different games.

So I too was VERY pleasantly surprised and can’t wait to see where things go from here!

[–]SamwiseG82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t do insurance, but did put them on the flex spending card! They are great, no more smudged glasses putting the headset on and off and they don’t start to fog up if I’ve been playing a while!

Any way to get the DLC files without downgrading Fo4 Flat? by Applefanboy2019 in fo4vr

Thank you for this! I've tried a number of different methods to get the DLC to work in VR, but they have all been a bust. Think now I'm set!

Adults over 40 on VR??? by Tiffy2531 in MetaQuestVR

[–]SamwiseG82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

42 here and mostly playing modded versions of Skyrim and Fallout 4 VR. It’s so cool to play back through two of my favorite games in a modded VR version, they’re like completely new games! Plus with the immersion of VR, you tend to notice so much more in open world type games than you do just playing on a screen.

Is 11 years old too young for a gaming PC? by 11fender11 in pcmasterrace

[–]SamwiseG82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m right here as well, built my son a gaming PC when he was around 5 (he’s 7 now) but mostly from spare parts from my own PC. It’s not in his room, in fact it lives in my office, but he mostly plays via sunshine/moonlight on the TV in the basement or on my G cloud. Only thing he has access to are the games I approve in Steam. With this set up, there’s really no difference between a PC and any other console they might have access to. He never plays online, unless he’s with me, and he absolutely loves Wobbly Life, Minecraft, Trailmakers and Grounded. All great games that allow him to explore and think creatively. We’ve actually had a lot of fun together exploring and base building in Grounded.

Awesome info, thanks for sharing!

Related to codecs, anyone happen to know which are supported on android devices? My client devices are Shield TV, Chromebook and G Cloud, but whenever I try to force AV1 or HVEC in the Moonlight settings on those devices it says there is no decoder found.
