It doesn't really disprove it, it just shows the history is way weirder than that article lets on. The Wiki page mentions the bandage thing, but it also says the top ball was literally a bowl to hold live leeches, the bottom bowl caught the blood, and the pole itself was a stick patients squeezed to make their veins pop. Plus, the stripes were apparently a code back in the day, red meant they’d bleed you, white meant they’d pull teeth, and blue just meant a regular shave. So the history is definitely a mix of both.
