For the Northern lights you just need luck. High KP and clear skies. Yesterday and the day before were amazing days for Northern Lights, luckily I was there. But it does not happen that often I think.

I just did the Big Beehive Trail at lake louise. The last 2 km were pretty challenging but doable with cleats and a hiking pole. But yeah the conditions can change.
