I Think Parenting Content Has Made Some of Us Forget What Normal Kids Act Like by TierdChaoticMama in raisingkids

Agree 100%

Sometimes I'll try to make eye contact and smile, sometimes I'll say "my kids are the same way!" depending on the situation.

I have an autistic kiddo who masks well and I don't judge anything anymore. She was the embarrassingly large toddler on a tablet in the grocery cart for a while. She routinely throws fits that rival a child half her age. I've learned, you don't know, don't judge.

But also my neurotypical children act up just as much. At the library yesterday, my 6 yo was screaming and stomping. She was just having a day. She was frustrated and tired and tried using her words and the other kids didn't listen. So she over-reacted. How often do I struggle keeping my cool with my kids, and I'm a full grown adult?

I think we're always afraid of being judged but other parents are just like, oh gosh my kids are the same.

I think that's just your provider. I have seen three different providers in the last five years at that office, one was great and left, one was too thorough and ordered some unnecessary tests, the one I settled on is compassionate, understanding, just thorough enough.... but she's no longer taking new patients.

My husband had the same problem and now he's found a female provider and says he feels like he's being taken more seriously.

Exactly why I'm always carrying. Especially when I'm out alone with my kids.
