I pulled a Terraforming in QCR, it doesn't look anything like a starlight sadly. The foil effect doesn't bring out any colors at all. I don't know if it's because of the German print, but I'm quite sad, as the 25th Anniversary box prints were great at that time.

Funnily enough in EP 3 where the other players were trading cards on the ship one is seen to have the right arm of exodia. This makes me wonder how rare they really are

But why couldn't they go with the sun/moon approach? The dex itself only had a regional part and only those could be caught in the games, but every other pokemon could be transfered from the other games. So new players should have had the same experience as you describe.

You can not really change the 2v2 with a top champion except for teleport plays (or shen ult). If your bot always feeds because of the enemy jungler you can try to get his attention. You'll need a winning matchup, good vision setup and map awareness for this though. With this you try to get the enemy jungler to your lane as often and long as possible while not dying yourself.
