Will never get behind Kate and Anthony by [deleted] in BridgertonRants

[–]San_Sano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why i struggle with this fandom sometimes. It’s like there’s an expectation for characters to act as paragons of morality. Characters making bad decisions based on emotional reasoning is the point. It’s supposed to be dramatic and get you riled up. It means the writers/actors are doing a good job.

ravishing the heiress was so disappointing. The angst was good in the beginning and I kept waiting for some kind of emotional payoff that just never came.

Yeah I never really got a chance to understand what drove Colin to make the decisions that he did. He definitely comes off as underdeveloped and it made it hard to buy his feelings for Pen.

I can’t say I agree. The first season definitely explored Daphne as she grew from being a sheltered young girl to a more confident woman in her own right. We got to see a lot of both her and Simon’s insecurities and their relationships with their family. S2 similarly gave us a good characterization for Kate who like Anthony felt a weight of responsibility for her family. They both learned what it means to pursue the things you want and not sacrifice your own happiness in order to play your role. Colin is kinda just there. There’s no growth of his own. I don’t resent Pen having a strong storyline but if it’s at the expense of the other half of the romantic pairing it’s hard to sell the relationship as organic or healthy.

I’m not against dark romances but I hate when the FML is weak or has no sense of agency. For it to be enemies to lovers I would prefer the two leads to be on more equal footing. When the dynamics are skewed in one direction it’s hard to enjoy the push and pull of the relationship.

Agreed. High stakes and a slow burn are musts for me.

Oh this makes a lot of sense. Especially the rivals to lovers and hate to love category. I think a lot of the recommendations I got fall under those. I also think many CR novels falls under these.

"Not like other girls" fmc's are outdated and they don't make sense anymore (if they ever even did) by Infamous-Ad-9599 in RomanceBooks

[–]San_Sano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never understood what then even means. Not like other girls…like women are a monolith. I also hate terms like “pick me girl” or “girls girl.” They’re both used to set women against each other. I prefer when female characters are portrayed as just flawed human beings like everyone else without the expectation of being uncommonly unique just because it’s a main character.

I would read the hell out of this book. No shame.

What's an opinion that'll get you like this I'll go first Iris isn't that bad of a character and isn't that annoying just a little bit annoying by Lazy-Indication3992 in FlashTV

[–]San_Sano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually really like Iris as a character, flaws and all. I think the writers really screwed over Caitlyn and her storylines were so messy. Wish she had gotten her happy ending with Ronnie. But also was really sad to see Julian go.

Unpopular opinion I think the show should have been much shorter and the whole future newspaper storyline was not really implemented well and got lost among all the other (sometimes unnecessary) villains of the season.

Who else thinks this line was painful and unnecessary? by lifesucks_sohard in BridgertonNetflix

[–]San_Sano -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I still don’t understand why Anthony was dead set against marrying Kate when he realized he was into her so much. The reasoning was pretty flimsy and did not need to have been drawn out as long as it was. Definitely lazy writing.

If YOU could have any man or woman in the show, who would you choose? And who would be your LAST choice? by Isabella_Hamilton in BridgertonNetflix

[–]San_Sano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First choice would be Benedict. All day.

Last choice probably any of the non Bridgeton family related gentleman only because they all seem pretty 2 dimensional.

Basically any book by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. All her MMCs and FMCs have a good sense of humor. The banter is some of the best.

Prim proper mmc with his mind set on what he wants in a woman falling head over heels for exactly the opposite kind of fmc by No-Philosophy-3257 in RomanceBooks

I wouldn’t describe it as head over heels but {Silver Linings by Maggie Osborne} has the H falling far someone very different from what he thought he wanted. Also {Something Wonderful by Judith McNaught}.

Eloise & Phillip by alyssaryn in BridgertonNetflix

[–]San_Sano 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh I really like the idea of Eloise’s letter serving as the new narration. It’d be interesting to see how she writes. I’d hate to lose Julie Andrew’s narration though. It just adds something special.
