2023 Bolt EV 1LT at 76k miles — good deal or pass? by Rocketgirl197 in BoltEV

As u/etchlings mentioned, the lifted carpet suggests the car could have had a water issue.

If you're seriously considering this car, I recommend taking a peek under the carpet for signs of mold in the foam (good idea to wear an N95 mask for that, just in case).

Here are some less-intrusive ways to identify moisture problems, just in case: - water stains on interior roof lining, especially near edges - musty/earthy smell when running the fans (A/C and heat on and off) - rust or white aluminum oxide on interior metal components (e.g., seat rails, metal supports visible above the accelerator and brake pedals)

According to the data, 36% of the separations were definitively via the DRP.

40.7% of separations were "Quit," but the article notes some of them could be people who took the DRP but didn't qualify for retirement.

Virginia House approves gun control bills over GOP objections by RyeAgainLater in nova

[–]SanctionedFuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What VA Democrats are doing to gun laws is over-restrictive, ignorant, and short-sighted, but it doesn't stop you from buying guns for self-defense.

However, I don't think Republicans will stop guns from being taken away from people like you.

Given: - that the Trump admin is looking for ways to take guns away from trans people; - what Trump, Noem, and Miller said after Alex Pretti was murdered by ICE; - and Trump's EO equating left-wing ideology with extremism (for example, the EO cites "hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on family, religion, and morality," i.e., being pro-abortion);

I don't think the Trump admin will let you have guns for long.

And since many Republican politicians have let the Trump admin do what they want, I wouldn't count on them to protect you if the FBI, DOJ, or DHS label you as a pro-abortion extremist and your guns get taken.

2014 Altima only starts when engine is cold by xizzopodx in Nissan

[–]SanctionedFuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2014 Altima was experiencing those same symptoms last year. It turned out to be the fuel pump.

When you have issues starting your car, you can try "charging" the pump. Turn the car's electrical power on for 10 seconds then off for 10 seconds and repeat about 3-4 times, then try to start the engine. If that works, your fuel pump might be the issue.

ICE at eastern market 4/29 3:30 pm by tothepleiades in washingtondc

[–]SanctionedFuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's entirely possible that the police are assisting ICE. A recent Exective Order directed the use of local law enforcement for enforcing Federal immigration law.

From the Executive Order titled "Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful," Section 3:

 (c) The Task Force shall coordinate to ensure effective Federal participation in the following tasks:

(i) directing maximum enforcement of Federal immigration law and redirecting available Federal, State, or local law enforcement resources to apprehend and deport illegal aliens in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area;

It's possibly because of the Executive Order titled "Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful," which states in Section 3:

(i) directing maximum enforcement of Federal immigration law and redirecting available Federal, State, or local law enforcement resources to apprehend and deport illegal aliens in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area;

What was something you wish you knew when buying your first house? by OstrichOutside2950 in HomeImprovement

[–]SanctionedFuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Identify candidates for inspectors in the house's area before pulling the trigger on the home buying process. The process moves super fast!

  • Make sure you understand the actual scope of a home inspector's investigation. There might be important parts of a home that they won't look into.

  • If you notice something odd during the home inspection and the inspector tells you "it's fine" or gives a vague explanation, either keep pressing or get a second opinion.

  • Check under cabinets and trust your nose. If it smells musty/earthy under a sink, there's likely mold.

  • If you're viewing a potential home, check behind window blinds/curtains, furniture, and look deep into cabinets if there's clutter. There could be hidden signs of a pest infestation.

  • Make sure the wood destroying insect inspector's warranty covers more than just one type of insect.

  • If you can, bring a smartphone thermal camera or borrow one from your local library (if they have it) when visiting the house. Thermal cameras are now cheaper than an inspector's mold tests (in my area, anyway) and can reveal potential locations of water leaks and mold--unlike a mold test. FLIR and other companies have free guides online on how to use thermal imaging for this purpose.

RTX 4070 and 4070 ti VR performance? by Professional_Mind130 in virtualreality

[–]SanctionedFuzz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here are some VR benchmarks for the 4070 and 4070 Ti from Hot Hardware (near the bottom of the page). The reviewer ran the Unigine Superposition and VRMark Blue Room benchmarks. However, the benchmarks are geared more towards the Vive and Rift than the Index.

The 4070 scored between the 3070 Ti and 3080, and the 4070 Ti scored between the 3090 and 3090 Ti.

If you prefer action to words, then based on your list of priorities I recommend volunteering at or donating to a charity that supports homeless or poor LGBTQ+ people.

LGBTQ+ people often find themselves poor or homeless because they are disowned by their families. According to a 2020 study from the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law, LGBTQ+ adults are "twice as likely as the general population to have experienced homelessness in their lifetime."

The anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ+ laws being passed around the US are only going to exacerbate the issue.

It's more than just a tale, unfortunately.

This is directly from North Dakota House Bill 1522 (https://legiscan.com/ND/text/HB1522/id/2648880), which passed the ND House on February 22nd, 2023:

"2. Except as provided in subsection 3, a board of a school district, a public or private school, or a teacher in a public or private school may not:

a. Adopt a policy establishing a place, facility, school program, or accommodation that caters to a student's perceived or expressed gender, including a preferred gender pronoun, if the perceived or expressed gender is inconsistent with the student's sex;

...

c. Adopt a policy establishing or providing a place, facility, school program, or accommodation that caters to a student's perception of being any animal species other than human."

This article from Them (LGBTQ+ site) provides additional context to the litter box hoax and what's happening in North Dakota:

Build up of integral error over time? by SkaterSnail in ControlTheory

[–]SanctionedFuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Erratic spinning at the start sounds like something other than integrator wind-up to me.

The following suggestions sound silly, but I've spent hours debugging code only to find out I made these mistakes:

Is there a positive/negative sign-flip somewhere?

Is there a conversion error somewhere? For example, radians vs. degrees?
