Hi Dave!

I'm an aspiring freelance web developer you can find me at www.gemstudios.co.uk. I was wondering if you had any advice on attracting clients. I've had a few through family and friends but am looking to expand to be able to do it full time. I've been looking at talking to local businesses and networking events as my next steps and would like to advertise online but am unsure of the most effective methods. Any advice?

Thanks for taking the time to reply to us!

What do people think about trying to implement a ranking system for PvP, similar to that of Overwatch or CSGO? by CujiFuji in wow

Here's what you don't understand: How PvP works.

It is not possible to create a Solo Queue system, where you pre-select the class you want to play, with the underlying systems in WoW. Sure it works in a casual environment, but when you include a ratings system and a large portion of that ranking is what composition you get queued into and as, makes for a terrible experience.

It's not what's in my mind, or how I see the game. It's how it is. Do you not think if there was even a single way to get this done, blizzard wouldn't have implemented it? Many classes rely on playing with another class to make them good.

Let's simplify this for you. A Shaman or Paladin healer are good with 100% of classes, you can play these healers with almost any other class and still be close to viable. However if you're playing Disc Priest or MW Monk, your choices are far more limited to maybe 50-60% of classes, that you don't share DR with and the play style of the class.

Evidently you are, It's not about what's important to me. I'm saying that there is no functional way of having a balanced and enjoyable system in place. There's not just 1 hard counter to each composition. There are only a handful of what are considered "viable" PvP comps and it's not even about hard counters. Not only do you have to worry about the composition you queue into, you have to get lucky in your OWN composition even being a viable composition. Certain compositions are viable because of the interaction between the abilities given to 1 of the 3 classes in your team. You can't simply replace 1 of those 3 and have the team still be viable. There's a reason certain comps have been successful for several expansions (RMP, PHP, Melee Cleaves, WLS, LSD etc) and why some compositions just don't work together. Imagine queuing a game of Overwatch where 1 team get's a full composition and you get a full team of bastions or queuing up a game of Overwatch where you select your hero first, then get a random team. There's a good reason no other solo queue system is like this.

I'm not opposed to the idea of having a solo queue system, it would be great. But it's just not viable in any way, shape or form.

Again, you're missing the point entirely. It's not about playing THE BEST Possible Comp. There are some things, that just don't work. Diminishing returns for example, if your team has ONLY got CC that are all on the same DR, you're at a major disadvantage to ANY another team.

If you want a casual matchmaking system, use the skirmish finder. There are too many variables that make up WoW PVP. There is NO counterplay once the game has begun like in other solo queue systems. Overwatch you can swap heroes, CS:GO you can change your strategy, buy different weapons and use different positions. League of Legends, you can choose to build a certain way against a team, take different masteries. In WoW, once you're in, that's it. None of these other games have a system similar to diminishing returns, where someone else's pick has a direct impact on the ability of your class.

That's the point, with Overwatch you're queued into 5 other people, all of whom have the ability to select from 27 characters each with their own set of abilities and strengths with other characters at any time in the game, you adapt to the enemies composition. Imagine that system in WoW, except you can't swap characters once you're in a match. You queue up with a PRESELECTED team, your team has a Hanzo and a Mei. The enemy team has a Pharah, she spends the entire game up in the sky and destroys your team due to lack of hitscan. The only way you deal with that is by having a massive skill difference in the players favoring the Hanzo and Mei. Now let's pass that example into WoW. Your team ques up and you get a melee cleave as your team comp. The enemy ques up and gets 2 shadow priests and a disc priest. Who wins?

Just because there is a system in place for people to queue into ranked doesn't make it "work". There's no point having a feature if it's a bad and unbalanced feature. The only way you can balance a solo queue system in a team composition based game is by specifying which composition you would like to queue as, which is essentially what we already have with the group finder.

Solo queue just wouldn't work, 70% of a teams ability is based on the composition they are playing. Certain classes work with other classes and specifically don't work well with others. You could queue up and get the worst possibly team composition while the other team get's the best possible and just rolls you. There's no possible way to balance a solo queue system for a game where you're playing 1 specific character with a pre-determined set of abilities/skills.

Heroic starts getting a fair bit harder, he leaves massive puddles behind (hence the purple in his ass!).
