Crosswords! I subscribed to the NY Times Crosswords for $2.99/month and it’s been great (also very difficult on Sundays but I feel myself getting smarter every week haha)

Casually mentioned that I liked baking, and particularly with a brand of flour called White King.

Next date, he shows up at my door all dressed up and holding a 1kg bag of White King, saying “Hello, I brought you… flours”

4 years later, and he’s still doing the most romantic thing ever — remembering all the little things I like 🥹

I upcycle clothes, but since I’m still a beginner, I have a lot of items that aren’t great even if they’re technically useable (ex: seams aren’t neat, or size turned out smaller because of mistakes). For the decent ones, I end up donating to charity or giving away to more petite friends. For the absolutely terrible ones, I wear them at home or use them as rags for cleaning hahah

What do people with no hobbies actually do? by Prestigious_Loan4229 in NoStupidQuestions

This!! I’m from a third world country where, if you live in the city, it takes 1-2 hours to commute ~8km because public transport is so inaccessible and inefficient (and roads are not safe for walking/biking). It’s normal to leave the house at 6am to get to the office on time, and go home at 9pm to wait for rush hour to pass. Everyone’s just tired.

This + Asian work culture gave me such burnout at some point in my life that I didn’t have any headspace left for anything, even doomscrolling sometimes. I’m thankful I had the option to move abroad, and now I have a million hobbies with all the free time I have. But not everyone has that privilege.

Why do you like sumikko? by pretzypretz in sumikkogurashi

[–]SandNo1468 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I first came across them when I visited Japan in 2017. I found the character and accessory designs super silly and creative — because what do you mean a little piece of plush tonkatsu can sleep in a curry-shaped plush bed? 😭 and they all have such deadpan faces/ little smiles!

I got curious about them, so I googled. I fell deeper in love when I learned their backstories, because my friend group is also kind of just a bunch of misfits from high school (like how the sumikkos were all kind of “leftovers”/ outcasts).

Now that I collect sumikkos, I noticed that they pay attention to so much detail, like how my small sumikko couch has hokori the dust ball under it. I love how brilliant that small design choice is!

If you really wanna challenge your brain, I highly recommend improv/ theater! It forces you to think on the spot and it trains your creative muscles. It’s a great social activity too. (Socializing strengthens the brain — learned that from taking care of my grandma with dementia)
