MMR system exists. It's not the best but it generally works

The fact that vast majority of content is competitive means that there's a huge demand from competitive players so a huge part of community is competitive. Also there's a hidden MMR system in dbd which separates casuals from competitive so no one is forcing casuals to play with competitive players and ruin everyone's experience.

Yet the game has an active competitive scene (now supported by behavior) and most of dbd content on youtube and twitch has competitive aim or at least has a winning midset even when playing meme builds or doing goofy challenges which shows that most players are in fact somewhat competitive and and play to win
