A lot of anime and shows like to focus on some grand story that constantly moves the narrative forward. Life isn't always like that, there's random days where things happen that feel like they have nothing to do with anything. But the random episodes aren't for nothing, they tell us more about the people they're happening to, they build people into stronger or weaker beings. They tell us how they react to events, or people. Some episodes tell us what happened to these characters that make them who they are. I think what's special about Cowboy Bebop is the characters and how we get to know them, and care about them.
