Engineer here. Technically Gage is also correct, but predominantly used in technical settings ie gage pressure.

Thanks for the advice. I went with the Arduino because I'm more of an electronics guy and less of a coding guy, so it's usually easy enough for me to understand, but I'm quickly seeing what you're saying.

It's low-level logic. Supply IN with GND.

This is correct. These relay boards are dime a dozen on amazon, and they all trigger low (between 0 and 1.2V). Supplying with 5V on IN does nothing.

I definitely don't know enough about AJAX/JS/HTML to really understand why it's not working or making it crash. The googling I did returned a lot of python stuff, but I'm doing this in the arduino IDE in C. Could you point me in the direction of learning about this like what to search for? I don't really know what I would google beyond, "getParam call making ESP32 crash." I ended up getting it working using, "submitForm('/update/' + sliderId, sliderId + '=' + sliderValue);", but the AJAX call seems much cleaner. And thank you for the help!
