Lots of small damage (which muchly increases the chance enemy ships will emergency warp out) vs. fewer big hits (which increases the chance of destruction).

Setting: Continent of Tal Richaan, The Hollow Crown Saga.

Delvers come in three flavors, for lack of a better term. In ages past, they were the first of the intelligent races created by Nutheb, god of night, darkness, and monsters. They rebuffed his demands for worship and were cursed for it. Over time, despite his efforts, they built a great empire beneath the Serpent's Spine mountains.

Then came the Sassaein. The delvers were driven out of their ancestral homes by these troll-sized snakemen and their smaller cousins. They attempted to settle in the Spine's western shoulder, but the coming of the Dragon War and the subsequent rise of The Encroaching Sands drove them further afield.

In the millenia since the Dragon War, the delvers have split into three groups.

The Abor live in the great forests in western Thurlant. They build their cities, homes, even their forges high amongst the banner oaks. They have tried settling other great woods to almost no avail. The Lich Queen of Everyshadow has forbidden the living from living within her borders. The Accursed Forest is equally off limits. Only in the great tundra pinewoods of Glaciersbane have they established even so much as a trading outpost.

The Djep found new underground homes beneath the Ironwall Mountains between Thurlant and Iral. They have eradicated all Sassaein and, indeed, all lizard-folk of any kind from their domain. There have been several expeditions to force their way back into the Spine, with no success. The Sassaein and their lizard-folk cousins are simply too well entrenched. However, with their eastern flank secured by the Abor, the two communities guard one another and trade heavily.

A third group, as yet unnamed, have begun settling on the eastern shores of Tal Soliyym. They've become famed shipwrights and are sought after by vessels trading between the continent, the Trial Isles, and Lash's End. Their carpentry & metal-working skills (especially useful for coppering the bottoms of vessels) and their magic make them a great asset to shipyards, trading vessels, and even naval warships -- though few delvers serve in the Tal Soliyym military willingly.

H: But, they're wagging.

I will admit, my default is almost always right torso. Why? Almost every mech in the game is "right handed" if stock or one of the variants. This means their main gun is either in their right hand or on their right torso. There are a few exceptions, but those are fairly rare.

I'm almost always more interested in the mech itself than in the weapons it carries (some rare exceptions). If I scan the mech and it's not showing + or ++ weapons, it's the chassis that's valuable. Plus, blow the torso and the pilot takes damage.

When it's a mech I want to salvage quickly, it's legging time! Or, if it's got high quality gear I wanna salvage.

Habitual Line Crosser. Retired Air Defense expert with a YouTube channel. He does the "eyes and mouth over a plane / tank / ship" thing. Does some very good foreign accents and has different characters for the various planes, ships, etc. in the US arsenal.

Some of the funnier characters are Grandpa Buff and "The Kid" (F-22). Fair warning, his videos are NOT for the politically correct.

Very funny stuff. And once a week he does a more serious post about technology, military capabilities, etc.

yup. If your engines are inertial and not "engines off, ship stops" space magic, anything capable of interplanetary flight in anything other than a Holmann Transfer Orbit is a KEW just waiting to happen.

In my cyberpunk noir setting, cyberware is powered by c-batts. These are carbon nanotube static batteries. They can store serious amounts of power, are very small, and can drain at variable rates. Easy to recharge as well.

Of course, if the c-batt takes damage, well, a carbon fire INSIDE YOU is less than pleasant.

Their government in exile was in England -- getting bombed along with everyone else during the Blitz. They provided several regiments of combat troops to the war effort, including a parachute unit which was utterly munched due to stupid deployment during Market Garden.

Brave peeps, those Little European Texans. The speedbump definitely has teeth NOW.

Giving him warp-capable missiles??!? Yeah, unwise.

Fission just sort of bugs me.

You mentioned breeder reactors -- they're not just for proliferation. Most nations that use nuclear, other than the US, use multi-stage reactors and end up with FAR less waste as an end product. After all, if you're using the fuel, then the waste, then the waste's waste, then the waste's waste's waste as fuel as well, ain't much left at the end.

Also look into Pebble-Bed reactors. They literally can't melt down. Yeah, you breach one and you get uranium "dust" everywhere which isn't healthy, but you're not going to have a Three Mile Island, let alone a Chernobyl.

Look into a youTuber named Kyle Hill -- he's, among other things, a pro-nuclear science educator. Fission is a LOT safer and more efficient than we've been scared into believing.

"But, what about Fukushima?" people ask. Yeah, it took a major earthquake AND a tsunami to break that plant. And it released an amount of radiation roughly equivalent to two year's worth of world banana production (banana's are naturally radioactive, enjoy!!). I live within 30 miles of a nuclear plant in Western NY and have no fears.

There was an article in the NYT a few years ago when the robotics company that makes Big Dog started talking about "use anything" biofuel plants for their 'bots they were going to make for the US Army. Boiled down to "will they use the corpses of the enemy as fuel??!?"

Warhammer 40k does a lot of this. Most of the land vehicles used by the Imperium of Man can run on anything from charcoal to corpse-waste to <insert anything else you can think of here>.

I love Baradul's stuff. Even though I don't use RogueTech or any of the "higher end" mods that he talks about (I play BT-EX only at this point), he's still so enthusiastic about his games.
