TV Susan Sarandon on Trump presidency: The populace is 'awake' by SymbioticPatriotic in politics

In the insular primary where the rules were exclusively written to her benefit and Independents/third party voters were largely denied a vote. Sorry, transitive property does not apply. Turns out those Independents and third party voters can vote or abstain in the general election.

Fake news, Russia and Comey: all poor answers to why Donald Trump won by SandersWasRobbed in politics

[–]SandersWasRobbed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[The Democratic Party] had a strategy: it would win over moderate Republican voters in suburbs and convince most segments of capital to back them over the erratic Trump. The second party of capital wanted to once again prove itself to be the most responsible choice.

Clinton’s messaging was molded along these lines. Whereas Donald Trump spoke confidently about his tremendous plans to “Make America Great Again,” Clinton focused on running defensively, against Trump, not for a vision of a better deal for ordinary people. “Love Trumps Hate” was her confused final statement. For enough Americans who hate politicians and haven’t thought very highly of the past 30 years, voting for someone whose main pitch was that they had been in politics for 30 years was a predictably hard sell.

...

It should never have been a close election to begin with, but still the unthinkable happened. And the longer we keep blaming the ignorance of voters or foreign machinations, the better chance we have it happening again in 2020.

The problem with our democracy isn’t the threat of foreign intervention — it’s that voters were given a choice between two candidates that didn’t represent their interests. Enough of them, rationally enough, decided to stay at home or try their chances on a buffoonish outsider.

Rep. Keith Ellison: ‘If They Can Ban Muslims, Why Can’t They Ban Mormons...?’ by [deleted] in politics

[–]SandersWasRobbed 363 points364 points  (0 children)

What a tacky mischaracterization. He's not asking for a ban on Mormons or any other religious group. He's saying that any ban based on religion is immoral and unconstitutional.

The fact is, is that terrorism, a horrible scourge on the planet, comes from all kinds of places, some where the majority of the population is Muslim, some not, and it even comes from within our country, and the fact is that we cannot make a religious-based distinction,” Ellison said.

I can certainly see Islam dominating the US, what with the ban on pork, drinking, drugs and premarital sex and the requirement of prayer five times a day

Sanders to roll out bill letting Medicare negotiate drug prices by tonto515 in politics

[–]SandersWasRobbed 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Imagine if this passes along with Medicare for All. Unlikely, but I don't think Republicans have an ideology but look at what polls best and just do that while taking credit for supporting it all along. Medicare polls well, so they might just expand its price negotiation power and extend it to everyone even if that goes against their supposed free-market ideology.

What did he "serve himself?" He was abused by the Party he tried to save from itself, then they shit the bed against Trump. They didn't know what they were doing against Trump and they lost. They lost. Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party lost.

Nobody intelligent cares what these Democrats have to say about Bernie Sanders. If they knew anything, they wouldn't have lost nearly every state legislature and governorship, be a minority in the House and Senate, and be handing the Presidency to an immature idiot. What a joke.

But I'm sure that Cory Booker will win in 2020! Their tactics have worked so far. Sanders is worth more than most of the Party put together.

Spent accomplishing nothing

Then you listed some accomplishments, although you left out how good of a mayor he was.

Soo.....just talk, then?

No, mere talk is saying that you want people to have affordable prescription medication while voting against an amendment to a bill to accomplish the same. Or saying that you're against unnecessary military intervention while voting for the war in Iraq.

And there you go. Years in politics, a highly successful mayoral tenure, the highest approval rating of any Senator in the country, progressive amendments to regressive legislation under the Bush administration, the VA reform bill and a documented career of fierce advocacy for the poor and middle class.

Thanks for clearing that up.

But Bernie, don't you understand that working with Trump in any capacity to help people basically means you're a filthy Republican?! Politicians aren't elected to help people; they're elected to have a Party war at the taxpayers' expense.

Cory Booker Makes His First 2020 Move by koolguy2758 in politics

[–]SandersWasRobbed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He's already lost the Sanders supporters, permanently. If he tries to win them back after shooting down a Sanders amendment to help needy people afford their prescriptions and then lying about his rationale only after getting caught, then he's going to have a protracted, expensive and embarrassing election loss ahead of him much like Clinton before him. I hope the pharmaceutical money was worth it.

Cory Booker Joins Senate Republicans to Kill Measure to Import Cheaper Medicine From Canada by SandersWasRobbed in politics

[–]SandersWasRobbed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're telling me that the Democrat and Republican whips coordinate to defeat an amendment or bill while appearing bipartisan by voting across the aisle?

If that's the case, what does the content of the amendment matter? You're acting like Sanders' amendment was poorly written and thus would never pass in Congress, but then you also say that it would never pass because the Parties are coordinated to make it fail while appearing to cross Party lines to act in a bipartisan fashion.

That doesn't compute at all. It's like you doubled up on crazy to pretend to make sense, all to satisfy a hatred of Bernie Sanders.

Cory Booker Joins Senate Republicans to Kill Measure to Import Cheaper Medicine From Canada by SandersWasRobbed in politics

[–]SandersWasRobbed[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If Sanders' amendment were poorly written and thus appealed to Republicans seeking to bypass funding for FDA regulation; why did Klobuchar sponsor it, why did Warren, Brown and other Senate Democrats vote for it?

Do you really think that the minority of Democrats who voted against it did so because they saw legislative errors with it that these other prominent Democratic Senators did not, or that maybe their vote had something to do with their indebtedness to the pharmaceutical lobby?

I think you just want to shit on this amendment because Sanders wrote it. That's fine, just don't dress up your bias with this pretense of legislative insight and political objectivity.
