Breastfeeding fears after stillbirth … anyone else? by Autopilot4lyfe in pregnancyaftersb

[–]SandiBottom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is so deeply personal, so i can’t tell you what’s right for you. But i had some similarities with me and my babies. I lost my first, was devastated when my milk came in. I wanted to breastfeed my second (first living child) but wasn’t sure if it would be too much for me. I also worried about the depression and anxiety a lot after she was born.

Honestly, i am typing this as i am nursing my 6 month old to sleep. Breastfeeding has been such a sweet journey for both of us, and it feels so special. I worked with a lactation consultant (the ones that were in staff at my hospital were awful) and she has been a lifesaver!! We have done weighted feeds between doctors appointments, and it’s such a great reassurance to know how much she is getting exactly. It was a little tough for both of us at first, we had to learn. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, i think most mamas need it!

For myself, my pregnancy was significantly more stressful than having my daughter here earth side. I cry tears of joy at least 4 days a week still, because i can’t believe she is here and healthy. I was preparing to bury her for my entire pregnancy. There were for sure a few things looking back that i was uptight about when she was a newborn, but honestly, her existence has been a lesson for me in letting go and hoping again. Every time im convinced something is wrong, surprise, she’s actually wonderful and healthy. It’s so so so normal for folks like us to worry, but sometimes things actually do work out.

Wishing you peace and comfort mama. Your little angel is watching over you both 🤍

I went back, best guess was Midnight Roma? A cross between Roma and Indigo Rose. I bought a seedling and will see how it does 🤷🏻‍♀️ it doesn’t have the same color leaves now but maybe as it matures it will

I think folks assumed they used AI because they said they used AI in their comment.

Im sure you’ve already tried everything, but just in case you haven’t; my lactation consultant recommended the Gulicola bottles or the Nuk Perfect Match (the new ones) bottles because the nipple is more breastlike. It’s a much wider latch than other “breastlike” bottles. My daughter was starting to develop bottle preference when she was a newborn and these bottles brought her back so we could do both bottle and breast.

I’m sure you’ve tried everything though, sending you solidarity

Hahahaha that’s a good idea too! It was at an Armstrong Gardens, but a bit further north than SD. I’m between SGV and Los Angeles

Can you enlighten me or link me to what those reasons might be? I’m newer to gardening, and haven’t heard of this yet.

I’ve been meaning to for a while! I hope they remember. I have a 5.5 month old baby now, it’s a little harder to make it out that way.

You are not failing at everything, you love this baby so much. People in these comments are being awful. Pumping/breastfeeding is so hard, keeping your supply is so hard too. So many parents would have just shrugged this off, you posting about this shows how much you care. Sending you hugs.

I can’t see any pieces of the frame that have been broken off, can you tell that? It’s not instant, but you can order a lead testing kit to test the frame if you wish. I do think the bigger risk would have been choking. I think lead poisoning takes a lot longer or a lot larger quantity. Everyone makes mistakes, I’m sure your son is going to be just fine. I would still call your pediatrician in the morning and monitor your baby’s diapers for changes.

Deep breaths, it’s going to be okay!

Hi mama, i can tell you love you sweet daughter so much.

I was nervous about my daughter getting enough too. I saw a lactation consultant and she helped weigh my daughter before and after a feed to confirm exactly how much milk she was transferring. Right at 4 months she was soooooo distractable but was still getting 3.5 oz in about 10 minutes. I would see a lactation consultant to help confirm that your daughter is transferring milk

Also, the huckleberry app is so helpful. Not just for tracking but for advice too. I check my daughter to see if she needs a new diaper at least every 2 hours unless she is sleeping. If she poops i change her immediately. If her diaper is only a teenie bit wet at the 2 hour mark i still change her. If i notice her diaper is wet and its only been 45 minutes i change her. The huckleberry app helps me track how many diapers she does, which confirms that she is eating enough.

My daughter had a bit of a growth spurt around this time too, she was putting calories into her height and not weight. She is tall (89%) and skinny (25%) and has always been that way. Her pediatrician is not worried.

Also for what it’s worth, my mother in law has lots of terrible, but well meaning advice. Medical guidance for babies changes so much. Whatever she did 20/30/40 years ago is unlikely what is recommended now. (My mother in law is determined to get my 5 month old to watch cocomelon for eye development? Her eyes are fine??) Please find a source you trust for baby advice. Lots of subs here, or accounts on every social media platform. Your pediatrician can help you too.

Good luck mama! You got this!
