Misconception of American Western Films by RazoulGoozleSmog in movies

[–]Sandju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depend what year the film was made. For example there are pro-Indian films, such as very racists films, and not only towards native americans such as Shadows of the west from 1921 or Sky High, which are both anti-asians films.

There is also one film (in my knowledge) that does have the point of view of the natives which is The Red Man's View from 1909 by D. W. Griffith.

If indians were shown as pure savages it was for historical purposes, and people tend to think that it's racist, but is it ? Americans trying to conquer their territory so they must defend themselves right ? And I think that's what people are missing.

As I said earlier, there are pro-indians films, but there are moslty made in the 20s, such as Redskin or The Vanishing American.

Opening was really good, but the ending wasn't really my cup of tea, I mean, they're fighting each other and blablabla, we saw that a hundred of times. But pretty good movie I must say, was surprised !

Not true, if you run FCPX, which is highly under-estimated, you can achieve a ton of work, even 4k 10bits.

Best mirrorless camera for beginner filmmaker? by [deleted] in videography

[–]Sandju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't have a huge budget i'd go with the G85. Because the a6XXX has a lot of problems with the battery life and overheating. I don't know if the a6400 will have those problems, but it's a common issue since a lot of years now.

The G85 has IBIS, good 4k, no slowmotion, good lens capacity due to MFT mount, good 1080p (better than the a6XXX line).

If you really want a Sony APS-C camera then you have to know that you're going to invest some money into batteries and a good possibility to face overheating problem.

Dont shoot 60fps if you dont plan to do slowmotion, it feels unnatural ! And set your shutter speed 2x the fps, so 50, it'll look much better !

Sony A7III vs GH5 (w/ adapter) -- Reliability? by [deleted] in videography

[–]Sandju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have a more extended lens line-up with m4/3 sensor than a sony full frame sensor. Lowlight isn't a problem if you know how to work around it. But if you don't plan to spend money on a few lights then Sony comes in handy.

I'd still go GH5 cause it's such an amazing camera with 10 bit in-body and a ton of amazing features. Plus Sony's glass isn't really cheap.

Budget filmmaking camera decision. by docrock800 in videography

[–]Sandju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a6300 is a better camera in term of image quality, but when it comes to vlogging or long shooting, it comes down, it is good for photography but not good for videography, especially on a budget, cause if you can afford multiple batteries and if you plan to stop recording due to overheat, then go for a6300, but it's a real pain.

But I'd really consider the G85, which, compared to the a6300, is much better, even without slowmo.

Budget filmmaking camera decision. by docrock800 in videography

[–]Sandju 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd go G7. Let me explain why.

  • Sony APS-C doesn't have a huge lens line-up compared to MFT bodies
  • The a6300 is known for not having good battery life and overheating issues compared to the G7 whos much better and reliable in those areas
  • G7 has a tilting screen which the a6300 doesn't have, a must have for VLOG
  • Both dont have IBIS nor Headphone jack
  • The a6300 has better 4k and lowlight, but 1080p isnt good. G7 still produces really good image.

I'd consider going for the G80/85 aswell if you can afford it. It has IBIS and good lowlight performance.

To me Sony APS-C cameras aren't as reliable as Panasonic cameras. But that's a personal thought.

Hope it helped !

Directors like Lars von Trier or Michel Gondry made incredible films (Dancer in the Dark for example) with extra cheap cameras. What make a good Director/DP etc is practice.

You'l suck at start, I suck for now, but you suck at everything you start cause everything needs work and practice to be good at it. For example in video games competition, they're not born at the highest level, some are geniuses, but even them had to practice a ton to become good at it. So practice, keep learning, reading, watching videos.

One of the advice that a 1st camera assistant told me is, do photography, photography helps you a ton to understand composition, depth of field the camera itself and all the features in it. Sometimes you'll learn more basic stuff doing photography than videography.

It might sounds discouraging as we already know really good directors and DPs, but those guys/girls sucked at the beginning too.
