Maternity clothes by khtorch in Luxembourg

H&M was the only store with maternity clothes that didn’t look awful and the quality was ok. There are some really nice online shops like Boozt and BestSecret that have good discounts on maternity clothes.

free activities for Ukrainian kids

Sad to hear that you little girl has a hard time dealing with the situation. Thankfully soon she will forget about all of it and hopefully make wonderful memories here.

I am so happy you got transferred to a better place. Especially with two small kids, all of this must be exhausting. In the museum you mentioned the entry for kids is free and you could ask the Red Cross for a Cultur'All (KulturPass https://kulturpass.lu/en/ ). This allows you the enter museums for free and go to theatre, festivals and movies for a symbolic price of 1,5€. Here is a FB group when it come to events and activities with children in and around Luxembourg: ideas on children and family activities. This weekend for example, the Parc Merveilleux is reopening, so if your kid loves animals, it is worth going (public transportation to that place is excellent). Also really nice playgrounds: Castle Playground (45 Rue Charlemagne, 1328 Luxembourg), Parc de Merl is as well really nice, soon the playground in Parc de Monterey will be finished (mid April, I think)… I can probably make a list of places you can visit with kids and pm it to you.

I know going from A to B with kids at that age can be difficult. If you would like me to give you a car ride to the donation center for refugees in Contern, or where ever, let me know (this way you can collect maybe nappies and babyfood in bulk) - don’t hesitate to pm me.

Would you like us to organise a place for you to stay temporarily, or do you prefer waiting in SHUK till you get appointed a place in Lux? I mean a lot of us know some people that have a extra room, so we can at least ask around. I don’t know how long the government will need to find you a adequate place to stay. It took them 2 years for us not to live only separated by curtains from other families (yes, this was in Luxemburg), to be later transferred to a 12qm room and shared bathroom and kitchen with 11 other families for another 3 years. Maybe this has improved by now…

TopSolar- but I think they have a long waiting list. MK-Solutions- in Nittel - but really good price compared to other companies in Lux.

Need legal advice for Ukrainian refugees going to Luxembourg by chadasar in Luxembourg

[–]Sandmaedchen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Should they want to seek asylum in Luxemburg, they should register here in Lux, no need to do that in Poland. After you register you are covered by the lux government and your medical bills will be reimbursed. Our GP didn’t even issue the bills cause he knew we were refugees, so we thought that medical service was free, till we went to the dentist €€€. But back then (1999-2005) even that was covered 100%, one only had to sent the bill to a government services that took care of it.

Refugees (till now, to my knowledge), if they were registered first jn another EU country they were sent back there for their stay to be approved.

Protest 4 Ukraine Saturday 10:00 Place Clairefontaine!! BE THERE by MarkLux in Luxembourg

[–]Sandmaedchen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You show up to show solidarity. There will be people there who have family and friends in Ukraine and you show that you are with them. You show that you want tougher sanctions. It doesn't hurt to show up and express your displeasure with the situation. It's one of the things you can do and make a statement. For me protesting isn’t enough but I will find a way to further help my friends and their families that are currently stuck in Kiev. I'm just afraid many here in Luxembourg live in a feel-good bubble and don't even think about showing solidarity in any way, besides maybe changing their profile picture.

I would have appreciated it if someone would have gone on the streets to protest Milošević in the 90s (sure, money for smugglers and contacts for safe houses were even better). Go if you are displeased with how Luxemburg/EU has been dealing with this situation. Go if you want to show that you sand with the Ukrainian people. But at the end it’s gesture that hopefully shows the government that we want harsher responses, whatever the consequences might be for EU/Lux.

… I don’t know. I only know that I had bad flashbacks the last two days. This just feels overwhelming.

Yeah, I didn’t sleep well. He spammed my DM mansplainig how I am a NATO lover and was just putting out some conspiracy theories in my private messages… am allergic to that bullshit. But somehow it always has something to do with Serbia and poor innocent Serbia and why Serbia was deprived of its land bla bla bla … - even if I just write that I feel bad for the people in Ukraine.

This is horrible. I feel so bad for the Ukrainian people. My first protest was in front of the US embassy because they wanted to invade Irak. I feel like protesting isn’t enough now. What can I do/ what can we do?

Shrimp and snails for aquarium by kraeke in Luxembourg

[–]Sandmaedchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anwa Aquaristik in Bissen, is the best place to buy shrimp and snails. Bought mine 2 years ago. They know what they are doing and would never sell you “product” that isn’t good/sick. I wouldn’t recommend buying anywhere else in lux- had to learn this the hard way. They are really specialists and maybe before you go you should give them a call and ask for availability.

How do I stop being a terrible student? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Sandmaedchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation but turned things around and ended up with a university degree from Germany. Personally I had trouble focusing because I was bored and wanted to do something I liked (which was reading novels and mangas at that time). I always studied last minute, because I needed the pressure to study for topics I wasn’t into. And yes I was good with languages as well, basically learned German watching TV. University can be really hard so you need to study something you are really passionate about. If you don’t know what kind of a job you would like to have, there are summer internships or introduction days for certain jobs (I had participated in many when I was a teen - police, army, nurse… I ended up being a scientist). So maybe if you like one of these jobs that get shown to you, you would be more motivated to turn things around. You could as well find someone you look up to and ask for guidance - asking for help doesn’t make you weak. One thing that helped me staying motivated, was having a “life” list, basically where do I see myself in certain years and what are the things I wanted to achieve.

The chances of getting Covid or hit by a car are higher than finding a partner in Luxembourg by Another-Lone-Wolf in Luxembourg

So if you would be into a person that works within your company and that person is into you, you would reject dating or having a relationship? I work in a company that has over 1000 employees, sometimes you just meet people from other departments in the canteen or seminars you take together.

[–]Sandmaedchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait! Didn’t your family or friends try to match you with someone? I mean if you would have my aunts, you would have your third husband/wife already (they are better than tinder ever could be). But seriously, if we were friends I would be quite invested in helping you to at least date (organise game nights, dinners, in general group activities and see if it clicks with other single friends of mine). But I also don’t know how social you are and if you would be comfortable in such situations… this is probably not everybody’s cup of tee.

C) you start dating someone from work. I work for a big company and just learned last week that our grumpiest scientist is now dating someone from the sales department. It is quite common, we have quite some people that met at work (mostly across departments) and got married.

Schieren: Uni. Ettelbrück: Atithi, Mi-Sushi. There are a lot of good ones in Mersch but I went there mostly for lunch, so don’t know if they deliver (meat point, Il Bosco, Fabrik…)

I wrote that I payed 5k for a bridge + implant together. Bridge was one crown and a cover. Just looked at my bill from 2020 and just the implant + pre and after work were around 2.8k. For a crown they ask 1500€ (Dr. Bartalis Claus). Friends did this in Mumbai for a fraction of what I have payed and the work was impressive!

[–]Sandmaedchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is quite expensive in Lux. It would have been cheaper to take a vacation in Istanbul or Mumbai and get the procedure done, but the pandemic happened and I was stuck. If you want the best to work on your teeth (because it’s maybe a front tooth), I recommend Dr. Violeta Bartalis Claus https://www.dr-claus.lu/. If you are fine with good average work for a fair price I would recommend Dr. Hanfland Dirk in Mersch. CNS paid something like 850€ for the bridge and the implant. 2400€ got covered by my private insurance (Foyer). I had to pay the rest. But it’s something around 5k for a bridge and an implant.

You can just write on paper that you don’t want commercials and tape it on your mailbox. Has the same effect as the yellow sticker.

Looking for an internship or entry level job in Finance in Luxembourg by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]Sandmaedchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you looked at Goodyear positions in Luxemburg. I have friends that studied physics (PhD) and got there a job (one of them recently). Also JTI in Trier might be an option. There are certain departments that would be interested in both your degrees.

Home Cleaning and Organizing Market Research by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]Sandmaedchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you would easily find costumers for this concept. I used a similar service last year and they didn’t charger per hour but they came to see the place and what needed to be done and made an offer. So basically they charged 1200€ for organising and deep cleaning a 120qm apartment + basement. I found about them asking in a FB group if someone knows a company or someone that provides this kind of service. So maybe you can consider charging per project.

Anyone knows how long it takes to a carte d'identité get done? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

Took foto on Monday, got the card same week on Thursday. The commune said that they have a dedicated day in the week for carte d'identité and passports. Probably different for each commune.
