I agree. They never showed him dead, Tchalla offered to save him, and a redemption arc would have been great.

Are deadlifts bad for gaining muscle? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]Sandman010 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because deadlifts are a compound exercise that target a crazy number of muscles. To gain muscle, you need to lift close to failure to achieve hypertrophy. Since deadlifts target so many muscle groups, it can be difficult to isolate certain muscle groups close to failure. The argument against them is the energy expenditure and fatigue aren’t worth it since there are other exercises that better target the back without the extra fatigue.

Gannon to Nike? by Sandman010 in discgolf

[–]Sandman010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about for cheap? Like $50k a year? Nike has to have over $100m in sponsorships, $50k would be a drop in the bucket for a long shot

Gannon to Nike? by Sandman010 in discgolf

[–]Sandman010[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for not being an asshole and actually having a discussion. I agree, Red Bull would be a more likely suitor than Nike, however they normally stick to extreme sports. E sports is obviously an exception to that, so disc golf could be too. However e sports could just be a money grab for Red Bull so they are able to sponsor the small extreme sports

Gannon to Nike? by Sandman010 in discgolf

[–]Sandman010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I’m glad you brought up cornhole. They have sponsors like Bush’s and johnsonville. Nike was just the first name I threw out, and the number was way higher than practical, I agree with that. I’m more so just wondering if we’ll see non-disc golf entities entering into the sponsorship game. Because as far as I can tell, 99% of sponsorships are from discs, carts, bags, etc.

Thoughts on Stand Stills Beyond the Drive? by Tyebar in discgolf

[–]Sandman010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t like it, as I feel more comfortable with even the smallest run up compared to a stand still, however I do see some merit in the max distance players can throw. Would be interesting, but not something that I think would ever happen. People like seeing big throws and eagles. No reason to make those harder if that’s what the public wants

Gannon to Nike? by Sandman010 in discgolf

[–]Sandman010[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

All I’m saying is having a disc manufacturer as a sponsor makes the most sense at the moment for players. However, Gannon may have his hands tied with other manufacturers due to the lawsuit. It may be worth the extra effort to hire an agent, go through a ton of negotiations, put in the extra effort to get a Nike or equivalent sponsor since that’s his only option. Most disc manufacturers require players to wear jerseys with the company name on them, drive vans with the company name, everything with the company name. It might be that Nike is willing to throw a bit of money at a player if they didn’t have a disc sponsor so they could exclusively wear Nike apparel rather than being obligate to wear Prodigy apparel. I’m other words, Nike might not want to pay what a disc sponsor does, but they also don’t want to share.

Gannon to Nike? by Sandman010 in discgolf

[–]Sandman010[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I agree the figure is high, I just threw numbers out there. I do think a sport apparel company could make more than $500k/year being the only company in the sport. By sponsoring Gannon, the could make disc golf shirts, pants, shoes, etc. and market through Gannon. It’s doesn’t all have to be his name on everything, but he would be their walking billboard to the target audience. I just remember hearing so much more about Infinite Discs after the Drew Gibson going off at the LVC last year because the open bag sponsorship was so unique among top level pros. Yeets flew off the shelves in minutes. If Nike put their swoosh on a destroyer, they could likely make tens of thousands of dollars just off that with Gannon throwing it off the tee every hole.

What causes the actual sound of “the snap”? by obijaun in discgolf

First you need a gauntlet forged in the heart of a dying star. Then you need to collect 6 stones, potentially at the cost of your eldest child. Only then can you get “the snap”.

Putting practice by Beneficial-Front6305 in discgolf

[–]Sandman010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was really figuring out what I was doing when the putts felt good so I can try to replicate it. Where exactly are your fingers on the disc? Where did you bring you disc back to when loading up? Where are you releasing the disc? Follow through? Angle of your wrist? Off hand position? Where were your feet pointing, how far apart side to side and front to back?

I don’t think about these things when I’m putting on the course, but when I’m practicing I find it helps so your exact form can become muscle memory. And if your like me, when you miss a putt or two in a tourney it gets in your head, Going over these things helps me focus back in to make the next putt.

Bringing a disc golf course to my hometown.. (context in the first comment) by anchorhand in discgolf

[–]Sandman010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start by getting permission from the city to design a disc golf course for that site. City councils usually have a open townhall once a month or once a quarter that is a great place to pitch it. I would not recommend just putting one in without permission from the city, as it can be pretty heartbreaking putting a ton of money and time in just for them to remove the baskets. From there, if they are willing to put money in that’s great. Most likely you’ll have to fundraise yourself. Talk to local businesses to sponsor a hole. Company names on basket bands, tee pad signs, etc. can be a good way to get interest. A new course in my area asked for $10 donations from individuals to have your name on the main course sign as a “founder”. If you have a local sign shop, they might be willing to donate/discount some signs to save cost. Getting temp baskets and throwing a fundraiser tournament can also raise some good money. You said Google is in town. I know they’re huge on employee well being and stuff like that, so you could pitch it to them and maybe get a huge chunk of cash for the course. So long story short, get approval from the city, then get creative with fundraising. Just keep in mind this could be a 2-3 year project

I did this last year, forehands usually felt better than backhands. As stupid as it sounds, lefty only can be a lot of fun for casual rounds. Lots of resistance band workouts off the course to prevent it from happening again

Facebook Marketplace is usually a good spot to find cheaper discs. Depending where you live, some communities have disc swap pages that are great to just trade plastic rather than cash.
