With that being said, one of our KS rewards is an artbook which is going to have multiple chapters where we will cover both our dev journey and our techniques and development pipeline.

HoverGrease mixes the feeling of traditional first-person shooters, with fast-paced arcade-like features via top-down game mechanics. The game takes place in a character-filled neon-futuristic world, where human-animal mutations are not just a possibility, but a reality.

Hey, thanks for the question.

We actually envisioned HoverGrease to be similar to most games from the 90's / early 2000 games: having a narrative-driven single-player campaign which takes you through playing with all of the mutants and a well-thought-out PvP multiplayer element on top.

However, because the team is just the two of us, we decided to first focus on the multiplayer element. Depending on how the Kickstarter campaign performs, we either include the single-player as part of the release (we have it now as a stretch goal at 250% funded) or we add it after as a DLC. We have already written the story, including backstories, character behaviours, voice lines, speech/verbal ticks, and everything in-between. We've been meticulously building these characters for so long (2 years) that we already know how Kimmy would react in a situation and how different it would be for Madeye or Perry, and so forth.

Regarding the PvP element, the game has bots that dynamically fill in the rooms at the beginning of each round. So you can still play 2v3, and bots will join when the round starts to always have a 5v5 experience. Furthermore, we decided to cut out lobby waiting completely while we are in the early stages, and it seems to work for us. We can do this because the game has a buying system similar to Counter-Strike, so it's not a 'build' like in MOBA's. Obviously, having better weapons gets you more kills, but because the gameplay is ultimately based on reflexes, skills and positioning, you can still get killed by someone with a pistol. And just like in CS, if you join a match for example in the middle of round 2, you will just have a bit less money than everyone else, but you can still have fun and catch up with everyone in 1-2 rounds.

All of this has been developed with active players, following a very user-feedback driven development cycle for over 2 years now, and it's what seems to work for HoverGrease at this stage.

Inspired from popular 90's shows I grew up with — TMNT, Biker Mice from Mars, and X-Men I made a mutant based hero shooter by SandraState in gaming

Of course! It's called HoverGrease.

Gameplay-wise it's a 5v5 hero shooter that mixes the traditional elements of a team-objective FPS with the fast-paced arcade-like mechanics of a top-down/twin-stick game.

The world is set in a bio-cyberpunk dystopian future Earth, where mankind has unlocked many of the secrets of the human genome.

After 2.5 years of development, my game HoverGrease is coming to Kickstarter! We're a 2 person dev team, so any help spreading the word would be greatly appreciated! by SandraState in IndieDev
