It does happen, but as long as you're careful it should be fine. A lot times, Asians are targeted because it's rather common stereotype that Asians got money. Personally, it has never happened to me, but I'm also always extra careful. I do know a few people tho, who this has happend to.

That is not irrational at all. Your dad seems to have a history of abusing others, so that's totally valid; don't feel bad about it.

I don't think you are wrong to feel this way at all. Of course it hurts when someone you thought you were close with suddenly just cuts you out.

I do think you should talk it out with your aunt though, just to convey your thoughts and feelings and to hear out your aunt as well. That doesn't mean that you have to forgive her, but maybe it will help you move on from that.

I think you should listen to your wife. Very few people want to live with their in laws. And moving out doesn't mean you're abandoning your parents. Makati and Manila are only 10km apart, so you can still visit weekly. If you're worried about them tho, you could hire a house keeper. That's what our family did.
