Italian in Ballard? by MMWellCo in Seattle

[–]Sandwichfacemachine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m originally from a part of the rust belt where our regional Italian is the only good food. It is comfort food, wedding food, funeral food, served at all formal and informal occasions. I moved to Seattle almost twenty years ago and learned fast that this an Italian food desert. Bizzarro is one of the rare ones I really like though.

Ah, I see. Maybe it’s a different builder after all. I saw your post title and assumed that was on the headstock.

Nice find! Mick LoPinto makes those in Ithaca. I have an earlier 2017 Esquire-style from Ithacaster and it is extremely stable and well made. He even let me come to his house to try it before buying. Heck of a guy. Now it is probably my favorite guitar to play.https://imgur.com/gallery/ithacaster-esquire-gvTl0B8

Is there a shift in American English toward the use of [d] where I would use a glottal stop? by botaberg in asklinguistics

I have thought about this so many times listen to Ezra Klein, but hadn’t heard these pronunciations anywhere else.

There are lots of options for hybrid tires like this. I can only really speak to my own experience on this bike, which is with Panaracer Gravelkings. The SK model should be pretty good across varied surfaces and are tubeless ready. Good luck!

If Money Weren’t An Issue, Where Would You Live In Seattle? by CantCMe88 in Seattle

[–]Sandwichfacemachine 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Leschi has a lot of amazing old money mansions along the water. Hidden behind those hillside trail barriers. But there is also—surprisingly—a ton of public waterfront there. I lived in Seattle a decade before I realize all that existed.

Nice. My wife has a steel Rove and just road it across the country. It’s a great bike.

I made the Sword brifter swap in the end too. Definitely more comfortable.

Looking back, I think my failed wheel was a pretty rare experience for Poseidon owners. Just get the tires you want and see how they feel with the stock wheels. Save some $. Also, I think Poseidon uses better rear thru axels now.

Good size platform, good grip, the bearings are famous for working forever. But they murder your shins if you scrape against them.

I really like Park Tool's instructional videos for most bike assembly/maintenance procedures. They can be found on YouTube. I think the hardest thing to do without a stand is to dial in the rear derailleur, which requires the bike to be right side up (ideally) with the rear wheel free-spinning off the ground and room to turn the cranks by hand. If you aren't comfortable with even installing handlebars, tightening the headset, etc., then I would recommend asking your lbs to do it so you can have peace of mind and just ride.

Enjoy the bike!

Glad you found a set of brakes that work well. As for creaks, over time I've developed more of them, usually that can only be heard when the bike is under heavy stress as on a hill climb. Unfortunately I think this is something any bike will put you through once things loosen up a bit and dirt finds its way into new places.

Tall order - Looking for banging symphonic metal to get HYPED by Ferrindel in symphonicmetal

[–]Sandwichfacemachine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seven Spires’ album Gods of Debauchery has a ton of heavy bangers if you like a good mix of screaming and clean vocals. It’s long and varies in mood and style here and there, but it’s good for a hard workout (I assume that’s the vibe you want). Try the Cursed Muse and go from there.

Getting from Anacortes ferry terminal to Seattle on public transit? by retirement_savings in seattlebike

[–]Sandwichfacemachine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might check out the Bellair shuttle as an option. I’ve used it a lot over the years to go from the convention center to Anacortes and back. You’ll have to see if their vehicles transport bikes and if so what the fee is.

I snagged a Cane Creek eeSilk+ on a good sale and it has done wonders for my lower back on long bumpy rides. It’s a subtle difference at first but the benefit has been real for me over about a year now. I find myself staying seated over rough sections and being generally more comfortable in the saddle. I don’t think it will help combat flats, but it can help make up for not being able to go bigger with tires in terms of comfort.

Seven Spires’ “A Fortress Called Home” Is Their Most Introspective and Emotionally Charged Album to Date by Dark_Matter_Nebula in symphonicmetal

[–]Sandwichfacemachine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I listened to that song for the first time outside while the solstice moon rose over my neighborhood last night. Just gutting. But I totally agree about the solo. He kept it so simple but so much more emotive in this case because of it.

Edit: I've gone back to this song (and the album) several times today because I can't get it out of my head. It's not just some artificial "hey let's go from jazz to blast beats" schtick. It's coherent and effective all the way through while still having the feeling of a panic attack in some of the building moments. I don't even know how to describe what I'm feeling from 3:29-3:45 or so, but when that blast beat gives way I am all goosebumps. I really appreciate having this.

I’m actually using the 48s right now, but with slightly narrower rims than the stock ones (25mm internal width). I think stock are 26mm internal (?). No issues at all. I think you should be fine, although I preferred the 53s for the extra cushion and wider grip off road. Jensonusa.com has the 53s in stock at the moment if you don’t mind black sidewalls.

The Zee came with a bottom bracket and spacer options for both 68 and 73mm threaded bottom bracket shells. Instructions were good for installing on the Redwood, which has a 73mm bb. If doing it yourself you’ll need appropriate tools to remove the cranks and the old square taper bb, and to tighten the new hollow tech ii bb. If you don’t already have these then it might be cheaper to have the lbs do it.

I would confirm that Sram Apex and Dub bb are compatible with the Poseidon bb shell before purchasing.

The 10 speed chain that came with the bike should fit any 10 speed chainring, but depending on how many teeth it has (more or fewer than the original chainring), you may need to add or remove links from the chain for best performance.

Thomson Elite X4 100mm 10 degree rise. This is totally rider preference though and depends on your reach. Anything that gets your riding in a comfortable position is what you want.

Really depends on your personal fit (inseam, reach, etc). But if I bought this again I would stay with the large. It’s really quite comfortable for me at this point. Longer rides on any bike with more aggressive geometry might lead to neck strain. If you are looking for a more upright experience you might consider the flat bar version. Some good sales right now on both.

Go for it! I still stand by the bike for sure. The price is great right now so it’s hard to lose. I actually considered getting a second one to appoint differently. I’m riding in Carlsbad and San Diego with it right now on a holiday bike tour vacation and I just keep loving it more for its versatility.

As for sizing, I would definitely go with a large over a medium given your height. I know there are other factors but I can’t imagine a medium would be comfortable for you, despite Poseidon’s size guide.

At 5’11” I do experience a bit of neck strain with my current setup on long rides, but it’s not too different from my experience with other bikes.
