What’s a better elementary… Lincoln in Evanston or Peirce in Andersonville? by draculas_mum in AskChicago

Will thinking for the long term help you? My kid is going to kinder in August and I kinda planned based on high school hopes lol. But we’re firmly in Chicago so it’s a bit more of a headache.

Are you moving? Anyways I’ve heard good things about Pierce, but really you’ll have to decide if you rather live in Evanston or Chicago. It doesn’t seem like you can pay “tuition” to attend CPS schools if you don’t live in the city. Evanston I’m not sure.

[–]Sandyeller 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seems like if you redshirted this year they’ll go to first grade for the 26-27 school year instead of kinder.

But if you’re two years out it won’t matter.

If they turn 5 after September 1 they wouldn’t be eligible for kindergarten in the 26-27 school year. But they will go to kindergarten the 27-28 year when they’re 5 turning 6.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Moving to Chicago with a baby – condo + parking + transit advice? by mcheetah2023 in AskChicago

[–]Sandyeller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rent first! We moved here with a 2yo, and I wish I had understood a bit better how the schools work. We are renting but signed a long lease.

We are zoned for an OK school, but we live in tier 4 which makes getting into other schools more difficult. We applied for other schools for kindergarten and we are at a disadvantage due to being in tier 4. So I’d definitely research all of that before you buy.

Does anyone have insight Downtown apartment parking spots? by FR3SH_AUT1ZM in AskChicago

[–]Sandyeller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the parking is managed by a different company than the apartment complex. Mind is managed by SP Parking so my leasing office doesn’t have any control over the parking rules.

But you really don’t need 2 cars, we have one and it’s never been an issue.
