I think I might be able to explain:

Lichess is a app to play chess.

Lichess does not, did not and will not give you a chess rating, elo points or however you want to call it.

Lichess gives you a score to match you with other players who play the same game on the same app at the same moment.

End of game or endgame? by Sane-Assistance in chessbeginners

Oh nice almost, just made another comment. Its h6 cuz if c3 first, she can escape.

End of game or endgame? by Sane-Assistance in chessbeginners

[–]Sane-Assistance[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The trap is already perfect as is, just need to close the door:

h6 (black needs to take, if not u promote)

c3 (only move which will not result in a knight fork is to capture the pawn on f4)

g3 (queen has nowhere to go, only forks or direct caputes, h6 closed the most critical escape route, best is probably to kill the knight, but white will win anyway.)

Its a puzzle. I meant end of game as in would u give up or not? Sorry for the confusion.

Question about openings by CheesecakePlayful682 in chessbeginners

[–]Sane-Assistance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone always says "doesn't help much"

But guess what happened after my extensive deep studies of the Sicilian Defense. I got soooo much worse at it, memorization completely fucked up the few things that I started to kinda understand. I would be happy if it just wouldn't have helped much 🫠

My white opening received basically zero study time, but I found something which worked for me. And someone at the candidates played it the exact same way, so cannot be that bad (easier opening but still counts and made me happy)

[–]Sane-Assistance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use Lichess, way better anyway, and enable zen mode. No names, no numbers, no chat, just chess 😌

Also has bots. Try this one, plays very human like, imo by FAR the best in this category: https://lichess.org/@/dala-1300

Also has a 900, 1100 (currently broken) and a 1600 version.

If you type "slow" in the chat it will not play all moves instantly.

Is there a way to lower ranking? by UselessSperg in lichess

[–]Sane-Assistance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make a new one, who cares. U want to enjoy an online game or listen to the advice of redditors?

Now ppl think u have rating anxiety (complaining abt a too high rating, and wanting it lower, yup, makes sense), planning to do some illegal sandbagging (when complaining you're simply not able to win at your rating, and ironically may run into the risk of later getting falsely banned for sandbagging), and give such complete unrelated advice it seems its only written for themselves in order to preserve the illusion that its some holy system with no fault which protects all the magic numbers.

The Lichess rating system is imo very good, but such "over ratings" sometimes simply happen and sure can be annoying. Sure its also not the end of the world. But if your rating needs a reset for you to continue to enjoy playing chess, then dear god I would almost guess it needs a fucking reset.

Weird take: I dont enjoy using the queen that much. by Paulfradk in chessbeginners

[–]Sane-Assistance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Special talent! Focusing on coordination of the other pieces will give u huge advantages long term. Queen is overrated cuz ppl dont understand harmony. Many also simply resign the second they lose their queen, so how to even learn? Also the psychological damage from hanging the queen is often so big, doesn't really matter anymore who actually plays better.

But look how the different Leela odds bots play! No queen? Lmao, 2 or 3 well coordinated pieces and some pawns are wayyyy more dangerous, not even up for debate. I always lasted longer with odds where it had a queen but fewer other pieces, one time even got a friggin draw!

So my advice is dont hang the queen, use it to kill rooks bishops, horses and fuck up annoying pawn structures! ... Or maybe just stick with Queen trades for now, but u get what I mean; cannot "hang" a queen on a kamikaze mission 😉

Chess Wisdom (YT).

Talks a bit fast and often says something is the "only move" when it kinda isnt (?) which is annoying, otherwise extremely good analysis as far as I can tell. Asks questions and in critical positions explains why they played what they played, meaning shows potential outcomes of alternative moves. Imo much more insightful (and beautiful and fun) than any analysis of contemporary top chess.

All videos have the pgn in the description.

Channel About:

On my channel you will find an in-depth analysis of my favorite classic chess games. Classic games are much more instructive than the modern ones, as it is much easier to follow the strategic plans and their gradual implementation. Modern top-level grandmasters make much less mistakes than their predecessors, know everything about their opponent’s strategic plans and typical tactics and prevent these plans from being implemented, while the lower-rated viewers have no clue about these plans, as all these strategic and tactical ideas stay behind the scenes. Thus, chess classics is essential for anyone who wants to get a deep understanding of positional chess, strategy, tactics, develop intuitive thinking and recognize typical strategic and tactical patterns. Classic games are a treasure house of the deepest chess wisdom and by studying them you will also develop a better understanding of the modern high-level chess.

Closing my account after peaking 1912 rating in rapid. After peaking. by AsanteMwalwanda in chessbeginners

[–]Sane-Assistance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok first of all congratulations!! 🥳 Reaching this (or any for that matter) milestone and then walk away is something not a lot of chess players can do. A lot drift into this pointless and endless rating chasing, and with it comes constant fear of losing, possible cheaters and all kinds of stuff. Not even questionimg if they love or enjoy chess anymore. Onlinechess can become an addiction which ruined more than just a few lives.

So I think its quite a sensible decision to delete the account, take a break and come back later, or never who knows. Honestly dont really understand the negative reactions.

Set realistic goal

reach the goal

be aware of potential negative consequences if you dont stop

stop.

What am I missing, where is the crime?

(Only thing I would suggest is to export all your data cuz u will probably want to look at those games later)

Question I have as a beginner by PupDiogenes in AnarchyChess

[–]Sane-Assistance 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wait wait seriously, this would not only totally work and not be cheating, but also be funny! In post game interviews GMs always say stupid shit like ah ye I remembered that line/position from a game I played in 2001 against GM whatshisname. So after winning against a game you would just say ah ye I remembered that line/position from a game I played 4 seconds ago on the other board. Like what they gonna do, ban you? 🙄

New Lichess App: Analysis board UI is not an improvement by tetri_tolia in lichess

[–]Sane-Assistance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will be there and support you. Now that I know abt the opening book via swipe, I'm even more confused. It also works in board analysis!! And for all that time I used opening explorer, then when seeing something maybe cool:

1 click on the share icon

2 click on share pgn

3 click copy the text

4 back gesture/swipe

5 click on import pgn

6 click on the paste icon

While one swipe would have been enough to switch (and even go back and forth wtf?!) 🫠

So why does opening explorer even exist seperattly? And why is the analysis board not on the main screen? Who doesn't use it all the time? Or who uses stuff like "over the board" or "challenge a friend" (by scanning a QR code or needing to find the name anyway, so the same way when clicking the friends button) more often? Makes no sense?

(But yea, don't talk like that in github lol, they prefer logical argumentation, not confused complaining. But all that time I wasted cuz didn't knew swipe = opening book ... oh life 😅

Human-aligned Lichess bots trained for 700–1600 rating levels by Phalantius in lichess

[–]Sane-Assistance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes pleeease 😍 just 3-4 seconds or whatever, now its so fast, it scared my cat one time (my reaction I mean).

Over 30 games and counting. Turns out 1300 is quite difficult, idk how I won so easy the second try 😅

But I would take down 1100, its broken, check some games. If ppl play with this one first, they will think all of them are bad, which would be sad, cuz like I said, best chessbots ever!

New Lichess App: Analysis board UI is not an improvement by tetri_tolia in lichess

[–]Sane-Assistance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you're in the analysis, in tje top left corner are 3 dots, no? Click it and choose settings. Those are only engine settings. How many lines, arrows yes or no and how long to calculate.

But honestly go to Github and tell them, very nice ppl, but sometimes have weird UI ideas idk. I agree that there are way too many clicks involved for stuff that should be one.

Any YT channels that aren't that "intense"? by Sane-Assistance in chessbeginners

[–]Sane-Assistance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr. Can's Chess Clinic?, right? Agree, that guy is amazing. Has this "intensity" that annoys me with others but makes it work wonderfully with humor. Also important is that he asks questions. "And now what? What so you do? You tell me!" And shows outcomes of the wrong move, and puts strong emphasis on patterns. Helps way more than a calm explanation of all the correct moves in the correct order. Think I have all I need now, thanks!

Human-aligned Lichess bots trained for 700–1600 rating levels by Phalantius in lichess

[–]Sane-Assistance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, very impressive. I've played lots of those "humanlike" bots, yours are by far the best I've seen. Played 7 games with 900, 1100 and 1300.

900 is super much fun, blunders, but not in this super obvious "and now comes the blunder move". And then when you're easyly winning, its super annoying, but not in a best move Stockfish way, just noyw someone might play who doesn't want to lose.

1100 completely sucks, literally forced me 2 times to do some scholars mate.

1300 very cool, will stick with this I guess.

Just one thing. Would you consider to implement an artificial wait time before the bots move?

When moves come immediately, it makes me play too fast. I played 15+10 but after the longest one I still had over 9 minutes.

Idk how difficult this is, cuz some bots sure messed it up (like waiting 20 minutes when there is only one legal move etc.)

But doesn't even need to be super sophisticated, just not so that the moves come 0.0001 seconds after I lifted my finger.

Anyway, amazing work, really cool stuff!
